The Gospel of John 1:28 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“These things were done in Bethabara beyond Jordan, where John was baptizing.” (John 1:28 KJV)

This passage specifically reveals that this encounter of John the Baptist with the minions of the religious and political leaders happened at Bethabara or Bethany. That's where John was administering baptisms for those who publicly expressed repentance of their sins, they’re those who decided to change the direction of how to live. For those who sincerely received it, they were preparing for the coming Messiah.

The place was a region beyond Jordan, which signify opening the doors to welcome those who are outside of the tribe of Israel, the Gentile people. This was prophesied in Isaiah 40:3 as "the wilderness", which is far from Jerusalem. Yes, that's referring to us. We, the Gentiles who were in "the wilderness" before we receive the Lordship of Christ Jesus and before we were born again. We do not belong to the covenant promises of God. Yet, we were in the mind of God when He sent John the Baptist to prepare the way of our Savior. That's a great blessing that we all ought to be grateful for! By grace through faith in Christ Jesus we are made partakers of Him and in Him.

Hence, grateful of God's grace, let us take heed of this caution and reminder: “Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God. But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called “today,” that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. For we have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original confidence firm to the end. As it is said, “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.”” (Hebrews 3:12-15 ESV)

And I say, AMEN!
