The Gospel of John 1:29-31 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me. And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water.” (John 1:29-31 KJV)

This is amazing to note that the day right after the skeptics from Jerusalem left - them who confronted John the Baptist, a very momentous event occurred. The public ministry of The Messiah was launched by the highest point of fulfillment of John the Baptist's mission. Among those who came to be baptized, John saw Jesus coming who was fresh from His 40 days of fasting and experience of temptation by the devil (Matthew 4:1-11). He came to be baptized.

John the Baptist beheld Him in awe and reverence saying: “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29b NIV). He was drawing dramatic attention to the onset of an unprecedented event beginning to unfold. This was a startling statement for the Jews to hear Jesus declared the “Lamb of God.” He is the One whom John earlier affirmed to those who confronted him - He who comes after him, but preferred before him. He is He, whose sandals he is not worthy to unlatch. He is He of whom he came to baptize and usher to manifest to the descendants of Israel.

He is the Lamb of God who was appointed to be slain from the foundation of the world (Revelation 13:8b). He is worthy of honor and glory. As it is written, around the throne in heaven the voice of angels is heard, “saying with a loud voice, “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!”” (Revelation 5:12 ESV)

And I say, AMEN!
