The Gospel of John 1:47 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!” (John 1:47 KJV)

Addressing Nathanael as a guileless Israelite is an affirming declaration that this young man is a true descendant of the renewed man blessed by God, Israel. He's not like the religious Jews, who were still reflecting the nature of Jacob-'the deceiver', but truly is a son of the one whom God renamed Israel, after he wrestled with God (Genesis 32:24-28).

This statement of the Lord seemed a slight sarcastic teasing response to Nathanael's unflattering remark about Nazareth, and a cue for us, who are to walk in God's grace by faith in Christ Jesus, not to make hasty judgment, as well. This tacitly points to the behaviors of the non-believing religious Jews that incessantly pass judgments against the Lord Jesus Christ. They accuse the Lord Jesus of driving demons by the power of the prince of demons (Matthew 5:22).

Considering that the Lord Jesus Himself did not come to judge but to save (John 12:47). And, He is the only qualified Judge! All judgement is entrusted unto Him by the Father (John 5:22). The Lord rebukes the religious Jews, as it is written: “You judge according to the flesh; I judge no one.” (John 8:15 ESV)

And I say, AMEN!
