When God Says …
“Jesus answered and said unto him, Because I said unto thee, I saw thee under the fig tree, believest thou? thou shalt see greater things than these. And he saith unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter ye shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.” (John 1:50-51 KJV)
Truly impressed by the Lord's knowledge of the trivial thing he was doing before he came to meet Him, Nathanael exclaimed He is the King of Israel, who was promised through the writings of the prophets. Of which the Lord, knowing the honesty of his heart, He essentially told him - "You haven't seen nothing yet! The Lord hinted to Nathanael that he will see greater miracles coming. He will witness signs affirming the presence of the Son of God in their midst.
The Lord Jesus gave him a peek of the miracles that they who believe will see. He alluded to the vision of Jacob, whose name later was changed to Israel. In Genesis 27:12, Israel saw a ladder between earth and heaven, with angels on it going up to and down from heaven. With angels ministering upon Him, the Lord Jesus subtly revealed that His mission is to be the connection between men and God. Yes, for us all who believe and depend in His grace, we have this affirming assurance, as it is written: “For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time.” (1 Timothy 2:5-6 ESV)
And I say, AMEN!
