When God says .......

When God says .......

"He who blesses his friend with a loud voice, rising early in the morning,
It will be counted a curse to him." (Proverbs 27:14 NKJV)

He re-emphasizes the virtue of pure manifestation of blessing others for God's glory. Specially, blessings extended to fellow believers. Here the warning is made more forceful. When it is extended for self-glory, it is counted as curse against the giver.

To position ourselves in line to receive God's favors and blessings, it is always wise to follow His word how to bless others, as written in the gospel of Mathew.

"When you do something for someone else, don’t call attention to yourself. You’ve seen them in action, I’m sure—‘playactors’ I call them—treating prayer meeting and street corner alike as a stage, acting compassionate as long as someone is watching, playing to the crowds. They get applause, true, but that’s all they get. When you help someone out, don’t think about how it looks. Just do it—quietly and unobtrusively. That is the way your God, who conceived you in love, working behind the scenes, helps you out."(Mathew 6:2-4 The Message).

Let's be a blessing for God's glory!

And I say AMEN!

When God says .......

When God says .......

A prudent man foresees evil and hides himself. The simple pass on and are punished. (Proverbs 27:12 Msg)

Reminds us not to be like an easy going person who wanders unmindful into the devils path. Or, even knowingly and mindful foraying the devil's domain with the belief of his own strength. Like surfing through tempting sites. Going along invitations to drinking hang outs, strip clubs and the likes, thinking they can be shared by the word of God. That's crap! It is written - " “Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces." (Mathew 7:6 NKJV)

Let's be like a prudent man, who recognizes that, he has a choice. Adam had a choice. And the Lord God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.” (Genesis 2:16-17 NKJV).

We know Adam did not duck when the devil came. Let's be prudent and duck to escape punishment.

And I say ... AMEN!

When God says .......

Open rebuke is better Than love carefully concealed. (Proverbs 27:5 NKJV).

He reminds us that correction is manifestation of true love. Secret love is tantamount to pandering-driven by fear. Fear of unfounded perception of losing. Open rebuke bears more force & accountability. It empowers application, specially when gentle correction remained unheeded.

For those who require chastisement a receptive heart is essential. One very good example to mirror on is when Paul rebuked Peter in the book of Galatians chapter 2. Peter displayed meekness when Paul rebuked him - "But when Peter came to Antioch, I had to oppose him to his face, for what he did was very wrong. When I saw that they were not following the truth of the gospel message, I said to Peter in front of all the others, “Since you, a Jew by birth, have discarded the Jewish laws and are living like a Gentile, why are you now trying to make these Gentiles follow the Jewish traditions? (Galatians 2:11, 14 NLT).

Let's be thankful for open rebuke. Somebody cares. We are loved.

When God says .......

When God says .......

A stone is heavy and sand is weighty, But a fool’s wrath is heavier than both of them. (Proverbs 27:3 NKJV) .

He alerts us that dealing with a fool is an immense burden to bear. It's beyond compare. A fool's reasoning is out of godly reason and headed down the extreme deep end of the ditch. Exasperating!

In the message Bible the verse goes this way :-  Carrying a log across your shoulders while you’re hefting a boulder with your arms Is nothing compared to the burden of putting up with a fool. (Proverbs 27:3 MSG).

The fool mentioned here is not the one who roams like a bum. Or, one who looks harmless or helpless. This is who is aggressive and rebellious against God. One who brushes off God's word. One who is condescending and looks at self better than others. Unteachable.

That's the fool we ought to stay clear of. And, ought not be like them. Instead, we ought to be wise, and as it is written - "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. (Deuteronomy 6:5 NKJV)

And I say ... AMEN!

When God says .......

When God says .......

Let another man praise you, and not your own mouth; A stranger, and not your own lips. (Proverbs 27:2 NKJV)

He exposes most people's secret cravings for fame and recognition. Yes, most if not all, enjoy ovation that they can't wait for others' accolade. They rush to take the honor to honor their selves.

But, the gospel of Luke writes - "For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.” (Luke 14:11 NKJV).

Our attitude should be as what Lord Jesus said in the gospel of Mathew: "When you give to someone in need, don’t do as the hypocrites do—blowing trumpets in the synagogues and streets to call attention to their acts of charity! I tell you the truth, they have received all the reward they will ever get. But when you give to someone in need, don’t let your left hand know what your right hand is doing. Give your gifts in private, and your Father, who sees everything, will reward you. (Matthew 6:2-4 NLT).

When God says .......

When God says .......

Do not boast about tomorrow, For you do not know what a day may bring forth. (Proverbs 27:1 NKJV).

He reminds us that HE is in control. We are not. It is for our good to entrust in Him all our plans, and full spectrum of our lives. He knows best to direct what to do and where to go. He sees the end from the beginning. If we boast, let's boast in His will and the amazing things He has done and will do in our lives. His sustaining LOVE!

In the Book of James, he writes: "Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.” As it is, you boast in your arrogant schemes. All such boasting is evil. (James 4:13-16 NIV).

Let's always declare and trust His will be done for us.

And I say ... AMEN!

When God says .......

When God says .......

Whoever digs a pit will fall into it, And he who rolls a stone will have it roll back on him. (Proverbs 26:27 NKJV)

He warns that the fate we plan for others comes home to us. Most specially, plan against those who keep themselves under the shadow of God's protection.

The fate one would intend for them will backfire, like what happened to Haman, in the Book of Esther chapter 7.  "Now Harbonah, one of the eunuchs, said to the king, “Look! The gallows, fifty cubits high, which Haman made for Mordecai, who spoke good on the king’s behalf, is standing at the house of Haman.” Then the king said, “Hang him on it!” So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then the king’s wrath subsided." (Esther 7:9, 10 NKJV).

On the other hand, if we plan to bless others, and bless them indeed, not only blesses them, but us as well. And, if the blessing is not accepted by them, it will bounce back to us.

Let's then go, blessing here, blessing there. We can never out-bless God. It is written: "And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others." (2 Corinthians 9:8 NLT)

And I say ... AMEN!

When God says .......

Where there is no wood, the fire goes out; And where there is no talebearer, strife ceases. As charcoal is to burning coals, and wood to fire, So is a contentious man to kindle strife. (Proverbs 26:20, 21 NKJV)

He reminds us for caution, when malicious gossip and quarrelsome forces are at work, discord and tension follow its wake. Nothing good or beneficial gained out of its presence. Those forces are rooted in negative, cynical and stubborn heart. They must be rooted out and stopped.

Rid of the wood and the charcoal. Instead, Apostle Peter writes:-  Summing up: Be agreeable, be sympathetic, be loving, be compassionate, be humble. That goes for all of you, no exceptions. No retaliation. No sharp-tongued sarcasm. Instead, bless—that’s your job, to bless. You’ll be a blessing and also get a blessing. Whoever wants to embrace life and see the day fill up with good, Here’s what you do: Say nothing evil or hurtful; Snub evil and cultivate good; run after peace for all you’re worth. God looks on all this with approval, listening and responding well to what he’s asked; But he turns his back on those who do evil things. (1 Peter 3:8-12 MSG)

Let us therefore migrate from the dominion of contention into the sanctuary of God's throne of grace.

When God says .......

When God says .......

As a dog returns to his own vomit, So a fool repeats his folly. Do you see a man wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him. (Proverbs 26:11, 12 NKJV)

He is challenging us strongly not to act like fools. Who keep doing the same foolish mistake, perhaps expecting a different result. (No it won't happen.) As person with right mind, we know the result. It's gross. As the word says - fools are like dogs - just want to return to their own vomit.

We should not act like fools because of pride. Or, be liken to a man wise in His own eyes. Let's be wise through God's eyes by: First and foremost - So he answered and said, “ ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,’ and ‘your neighbor as yourself.’ ” (Luke 10:27 NKJV)

Surrender our will to Him. Be teachable. Soak in His Word. Learn to walk wisely. Be instep with the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Reject folly. Embrace wisdom.

Do not answer a fool according to his folly, Lest you also be like him. Answer a fool according to his folly, Lest he be wise in his own eyes. (Proverbs 26:4, 5 NKJV)

Basically He caution us to refrain from giving value to a fools reasoning. Lest we become like him or he may be empowered in his folly.

Who is a fool? How can we identify a fool? The Psalmist wrote - "The fool has said in his heart, “ There is no God.” They are corrupt, They have done abominable works, There is none who does good. '(Psalms 14:1 NKJV).

The Word of God reveals, they corrupt the pure. They deny the goodness of God. They attribute the amazing design of God's beautiful creation to accident. They abase God's creative masterpiece - man to organismic evolution. They  reject the God who sustain them by His breathe.

Yes, God exhort us not to interact with them with a pleasure of an answer. Better yet, let's not stand on their way. Stay clear from their path of influence.

A whip for the horse, A bridle for the donkey, And a rod for the fool’s back. (Proverbs 26:3 NKJV).

In the Amplified Bible it goes - "A whip for the horse, a bridle for the donkey, and a [straight, slender] rod for the backs of [self-confident] fools. (Proverbs 26:3 AMP).

God reminds us that there is consequence for foolishness. It can be painful at times. The rod He use is not a rod of condemnation. But, a rod of correction, as a whip for the horse and a bridle for the donkey. That is to re-set our ways to wise living. He does that out of love.

We ought to be conscious and careful not to assume that all pain of rod is the devil's work. Or, a testing of faith. It can be a result of our foolish doing - because we are ignorant of God's good plans or just plain rebellious. Let's allow the rod of His discipline to rid us of that attitude, in humility, meekness and wisdom.

It is written: - "As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent. Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. (Revelation 3:19, 20 NKJV).

Let's welcome correction. Listen to His voice. Open the door of our heart. Let Him in. Let's fellowship with Him.

Whoever has no rule over his own spirit Is like a city broken down, without walls. (Proverbs 25:28 NKJV). In the message bible the verse goes this way - "A person without self-control is like a house with its doors and windows knocked out." (Proverbs 25:28 MSG)

He directs our attention to the fruit of the Spirit, the fruit of self-control. Unless we put ourselves under the guidance of the Holy Spirit . Unless we eagerly seek and submit to be Spirit filled, to be Spirit led and to be Spirit formed, our sinful nature - the flesh, takes control over the direction we life.

We are fully exposed to the power of the enemy. We give them free access into our life. Apostle Paul warns  - "When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God. (Galatians 5:19-21 NLT).

What to do then? Surrender our free will, and sovereignty of our lives to the Holy Spirit.

A righteous man who falters before the wicked Is like a murky spring and a polluted well. (Proverbs 25:26 NKJV).

The Message bible goes this way - "A good person who gives in to a bad person is a muddied spring, a polluted well. (Proverbs 25:26 MSG).

He is cautioning us to be careful. In the world we are exposed to a lot of pollutants. Compromise is a tempting option. It appears at every aspects of our life - personal, family, social, business  - both physical and spiritual.

Pressure around us is so intense. That's why we need God's Word, the true food from heaven to strengthen us. His Word is the lens we can use to see things through so we can avoid deceptions and traps.

The Word gives us wisdom. It is the lamp to provide light on our path so we won't falter before the wicked. Apostle Paul urged us -"Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. (Ephesians 6:10, 11, 13 NKJV).

Let's put on His armor.

If your enemy is hungry, give him bread to eat; And if he is thirsty, give him water to drink; For so you will heap coals of fire on his head, And the Lord will reward you. (Proverbs 25:21, 22 NKJV)

He reiterate the right way to deal with our adversary.  Giving is the weapon. Love is our action prompt. Love through Christ is the power to live in holiness, as our Heavenly Father is holy. He show His love when He gave His only begotten Son to save us. No father does that, except Him.

Our Lord Jesus gave His life to die on the cross in our place. Even when we were yet sinners, so that we may have life everlasting. He died for His enemies. It is written - "For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life." (Romans 5:10 NKJV).

Let's be a giver, in season or out of season. Regardless of who - enemies or friend, specially enemies as exhorted by today's verse.

A word fitly spoken and in due season is like apples of gold in settings of silver.  Like an earring or nose ring of gold or an ornament of fine gold is a wise reprover to an ear that listens and obeys. (Proverbs 25:11, 12 AMP)

He affirms the great value of His Word in our life. When God allow His Word to be delivered our way by whatever means and instance, that signifies the season is right. We need it. He is Omniscient. He knows our every need.

On our part, we have to be in season always to receive His Word. Eager and anticipating. If we spurn, scoff and brush it aside, it's a treasure lost. It is written - "Whoever despises the word and counsel [of God] brings destruction upon himself, but he who [reverently] fears and respects the commandment [of God] is rewarded." (Proverbs 13:13 AMP)

Let's honor His Word.

When God says .......

When God says .......

Do not go hastily to court; For what will you do in the end, When your neighbor has put you to shame? Debate your case with your neighbor, And do not disclose the secret to another; Lest he who hears it expose your shame, And your reputation be ruined. (Proverbs 25:8-10 NKJV)

He is giving us a heads up on how to handle disputes. There is God's way and the other way. God's way is the way to go for His children. With God's presence in the midst, and prayer, try getting amicable agreement before taking or being taken to court.

Wisdom is paramount in sorting which issues are private or public. Dirty linens are not washed in public. There are matters that must be dealt directly with God and the party in dispute. Not with anyone who has no business with. Lest it becomes a fuel for gossip and ridicule.

Godly wisdom calls for out-of-court settlement.

Lord Jesus said: “When you are on the way to court with your adversary, settle your differences quickly. Otherwise, your accuser may hand you over to the judge, who will hand you over to an officer, and you will be thrown into prison. And if that happens, you surely won’t be free again until you have paid the last penny. (Matthew 5:25, 26 NLT) .

So, we be wise. Seek God's grace. "If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men." (Romans 12:18 NKJV)

Do not exalt yourself in the presence of the king, And do not stand in the place of the great; For it is better that he say to you, “Come up here,” Than that you should be put lower in the presence of the prince, Whom your eyes have seen. (Proverbs 25:6, 7 NKJV).

The Message Bible puts it this way- Don’t work yourself into the spotlight; don’t push your way into the place of prominence. It’s better to be promoted to a place of honor than face humiliation by being demoted. (Proverbs 25:6, 7 MSG)

He refresh our focus on the virtue of humility. 'Social climbing' to a place  of distinction where you don't belong bears the risk of being pushed to fall in a great crash.

Instead we are to emulate our Savior - who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. (Philippians 2:6-8 NKJV)

Take away the dross from silver, And it will go to the silversmith for jewelry. Take away the wicked from before the king, And his throne will be established in righteousness. (Proverbs 25:4, 5 NKJV)

He likens involvement of the wicked in our life, with the presence of rubbish. It spoils the air. It destroys the scene. It makes things ugly.

The wicked corrupts a kingdom. It corrupts authority. It corrupts our personal, social and business life. Enslavement to wickedness hinders the enablement of Godly living and blessings.

Only when we resist evil, then turn to God, accept Jesus into our lives, submit to Him and allow His Word to influence our daily walk, can right standing  with God take roots upon our lives, our family, our community, our nation and our world.

The book of Romans exhorts us with these words - But now you are free from the power of sin and have become slaves of God. Now you do those things that lead to holiness and result in eternal life. (Romans 6:22 NLT).
