Proverbs 24:11-12 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“Deliver those who are drawn toward death, And hold back those stumbling to the slaughter. If you say, “Surely we did not know this,” Does not He who weighs the hearts consider it? He who keeps your soul, does He not know it? And will He not render to each man according to his deeds?” (Proverbs 24:11-12 NKJV)

This alerts us that as we come across an opportunity to save the life of a very precious soul headed for destruction, most specially those who are close to our hearts, we are to draw every provision from heaven for their rescue. To restrain help, we are accountable. And, God sees it. 

So, each one is called upon to admonish and alert each other in the ways of God's Words. We are to holler upon each other when we go astray to get back to the shield of grace by faith in Christ Jesus our Lord. In His presence, we rest in the newness of life by His resurrection. Whether we are listened to or not, God tasked us all to share His good news of grace and truth to those who are in our proximity. 

Those who love us and are in right relationship with God by faith in Jesus, call us out too when we stray. They, who are fellow brethren reborn in spirit, not captives of religious doctrines, are tasked to point us to the truth of God's holy and written Word. It is wise to listen to warning calls from the holy and written Word of God. Let's honor them! Apostle Paul reminds: "Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted." (Galatians 6:1 NIV)

As children of God in Christ Jesus, let us be stirred by this exhortation from Apostle Paul: “We ask you, brothers, to respect  those who labor among you and are over you in the Lord and admonish you, and to esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Be at peace among yourselves. And we urge you, brothers, admonish the idle, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with them all. See that no one repays anyone evil for evil, but always seek to do good to one another and to everyone. Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” (1 Thessalonians 5:12-18 ESV)

And I say, AMEN!

Proverbs 24:10 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“If you faint in the day of adversity, Your strength is small.” (Proverbs 24:10 NKJV)

Adversities, troubles and storms are the gauge of our strength. It also exercises our strength to become stronger and stronger as it sustains to resist the stress of daily challenges we face. If a person faints in times of adversity and crisis, the issue is strength, this passage says. Not because of the intensity of the challenge. Which reveals it is all up to us. It’s a choice. If there's lack of wisdom to exercise and tone the muscle of faith, it leads to weakness.

Earlier passages remind that "a wise man is strong and increases in strength." Yes, true wisdom in the knowledge and fear of the Lord makes a person grow stronger and stronger in faith to rely in the faith of Christ Jesus. It reminds that we have a Great God who is Almighty. Wisdom led David straight to the Lord when he and his men found their families were taken captives by their enemy. They were in a state of horror that "they wept, until they have no more strength to weep." “David was greatly distressed because the men were talking of stoning him; each one was bitter in spirit because of his sons and daughters. But David found strength in the Lord his God.” (1 Samuel 30:6 NIV)

Wisdom drove David right on to the Lord where he found strength. Which reminds us that at all times, let's come to Him in Christ Jesus, our Lord. In Him, with our faith as small as mustard seed (Luke 17:6), as we come to Him we can rest not in our faith, but in His faith (Galatians 2:20). As David did, with a grateful heart, we declare this assurance: “The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts; so I am helped, and my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him.” (Psalms 28:7 ESV)

And I say, AMEN!

Proverbs 24:8-9 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“He who plots to do evil will be called a schemer. The devising of foolishness is sin, And the scoffer is an abomination to men.” (Proverbs 24:8-9 NKJV)

These passages give a subtle warning of the fallen angel Satan, who:

* Accuses the faithful and attempts to overload them with guilt. He uses his minions and schemers like him.

* Specializes in deceit and lie, masquerades as an “angel of light” as if he represents God. Lord Jesus calls him the father of lies. “When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” (John 8:44 b NIV)

* Devises schemes to tempt people to commit sin, intending to inflect them pain. He incites them to scoff against God, knowing that such is abomination even to men, and break their relationship with God.

But, he has no power over us no more, as we entrust our lives in the Mighty hands of our Heavenly Father by faith in Christ Jesus. The devil is already defeated and destroyed! He is a defeated foe when the Lord Jesus nailed our indebtedness on the cross. We are set free from the bondage of sin, in Christ Jesus - “by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him.” (Colossians 2:14-15 ESV)

And I Say, AMEN!

Proverbs 24:7 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“Wisdom is too lofty for a fool; He does not open his mouth in the gate.” (Proverbs 24:7 NKJV)

Wisdom is a divine gift from God whenever one, who believes and fears God reverently, asks. It is written: "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him." (James 1:5 ESV)

To an arrogant fool who rejects God, wisdom is unreachable. As a fool remains a fool, “The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.”(Psalms 14:1a NIV)

At the gate, where the wise men gathered for intelligent conversation to discuss the issues of the day, the fool sulk with mouth shut. He conveys the image of a wise person by being silent and as if in circumspect. He may fool the unbelieving world. But, not everybody, his foolishness reveals who he is. Being wise is having a personal intimate relationship with God through faith in Jesus. We are who we are - wise to depend in His grace, not because of who we are. It is because of who He is. Without Him we are nothing. It is written: “It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption.” (1 Corinthians 1:30 NIV)

And I say, AMEN!

Proverbs 24:5-6 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says...

“A wise man is strong, Yes, a man of knowledge increases strength; For by wise counsel you will wage your own war, And in a multitude of counselors there is safety.” (Proverbs 24:5-6 NKJV)

These passages tell us that knowledge is power. In fact, God warns that - “my people are destroyed from lack of knowledge" in Hosea 4:6 NIV.

There is power in the knowledge of God and His Words to, not only, set people free from bondage, but also to transform people’s lives from the inside out. The arrays of counsels of God's Words keep us safe in this treacherous terrain of the fallen world.

Being wise in having the knowledge of the truth of God's holy and written Words equip us for every challenges and storms of life that we will encounter. And, challenges and storms will come our way in many forms and shapes. It is just a matter of time. When? We don't know. But, it comes. That's why it's important to be grounded in the promises of God's Words, so, to withstand. Lord Jesus affirmed this reality, as He declared: “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.” (Matthew 7:24-27 NIV)

In this life, we are battling an unseen enemy. Hence, as children of God by grace through faith in Christ Jesus, Apostle Paul exhorts us with these words - “Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God,” (Ephesians 6:13-17 ESV)

And I Say, AMEN!

Proverbs 24:3-4 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“Through wisdom a house is built, And by understanding it is established; By knowledge the rooms are filled With all precious and pleasant riches.” (Proverbs 24:3-4 NKJV)

These words speak of a literal house – a dwelling place for a family or an individual. These speak of building a family (also called a home)—or building a business, a nation, or even a metaphor for building a life. Yes, a life thriving and full of blessings, especially one that lasts unto the spiritual realm.

WISDOM is required in building a house and/or keeping it in good shape. The Holy Scriptures promised that: “God makes a home for the lonely; He leads the prisoners into prosperity, Only the stubborn and rebellious dwell in a parched land.” (Psalms 68:6 AMP). Knowing your source is the key for a flourishing home filled with material and spiritual blessings. Pleasant riches abound, with exuberant soul, where joy, love, peace and strength reign, by His grace. That is when God is sovereign in a home through faith in Christ Jesus. 

Quality matters in building a home. The best comes from heaven. We need God's provision and guidance of His Word. When a house and a home is built on the rock of God's Word, it withstands when storms come. And, storms will come. It is just a matter of when!?

Lord Jesus said: “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”” (Matthew 7:24-27 ESV)

And I say, AMEN!

Proverbs 24:1-2 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“Do not be envious of evil men, Nor desire to be with them; For their heart devises violence, And their lips talk of troublemaking.” (Proverbs 24:1-2 NKJV)

These passages warn us to avoid being drawn by the flaunting of evil. The schemes of their heart are only wickedness and the sugar-coated utterances their mouth speaks are crafty, like when Eve enabled the serpent in the garden. It led them and all of us to fall from the grace of God (Genesis 3). We must not be impressed by the adornment of their seemingly attractive possessions which are here-today-gone-tomorrow-sort-of-things. The world around us has a lot of them. Those are baits for trouble. It could lead us to a place of acrimony and regrets.

So, having been made righteous in the eyes of God through His grace by faith in Jesus, we are to keep our heart content and our eyes settled on what we have. Let us have our being singing with grateful songs. And, have our conscience and mind reflect on these words: “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away.” (Psalm 1:1-4 ESV)

And I say, AMEN!

Proverbs 23:29-35 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says …

“Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has contentions? Who has complaints? Who has wounds without cause? Who has redness of eyes? Those who linger long at the wine, Those who go in search of mixed wine. Do not look on the wine when it is red, When it sparkles in the cup, When it swirls around smoothly; At the last it bites like a serpent, And stings like a viper. Your eyes will see strange things, And your heart will utter perverse things. Yes, you will be like one who lies down in the midst of the sea, Or like one who lies at the top of the mast, saying: “They have struck me, but I was not hurt; They have beaten me, but I did not feel it. When shall I awake, that I may seek another drink?”” (Proverbs 23:29-35 NKJV)

These passages dropped bombshells of picturesque truths and of very profound counsels and warnings about the destructive wake of too much consumption of wine. It is not a secret that this tool of the devil is a powerful wrecker. Even science affirms and warns of its danger to physical health and life.

It could lead to addiction to those who indulge it. It causes collateral wreckage of lives within the proximity of those possessed by it. Hence, Apostle Paul echoes this counsel, as it is written: “And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ.” (Ephesians 5:18-21 ESV)

And I say, AMEN!

Proverbs 23:26-28 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“My son, give me your heart, And let your eyes observe my ways. For a harlot is a deep pit, And a seductress is a narrow well. She also lies in wait as for a victim, And increases the unfaithful among men.” (Proverbs 23:26-28 NKJV)

These passages are on spot. It is calling every child, every son and every daughter, of our fathers and mothers that love us to give our heart to The Lord. We are called to focus on His ways. We are not to look to the left nor to the right, but up! There are a lot of diversions for the eyes to see surrounding our way. There are ambushes set up at every corner. They lie in wait for their next victim. If careless we walk, it can be tragic. We are all preys of target. The seductress and the temptress will rob you out of everything you possess - your dignity, your integrity and your heaven ordained love-bonded family life. Hence, let us not our attention be drawn to their charms and lures. Let's focus our eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith (Hebrews 12:2).

Yes, it can be a struggle, considering that the harlot has taken the image of religion and deceptive worldly values with its offers of temporal comfort in wrong believing. But, with God in us by our faith in Christ Jesus, through His grace, He will guide us not to fall into that deep and narrow pit. We will persevere. We will overcome!

We just have to look past the hindrances and fix our eyes on the Lord Jesus Christ. We are covered by cheers of angels in heaven and parade of brethren in faith in the Scriptures. Hence, let us reflect on this reminder from Apostle Paul: “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.” (Hebrews 12:1-3 NIV)

And I say, AMEN!

Proverbs 23:24-25 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says …

“The father of the righteous will greatly rejoice, And he who begets a wise child will delight in him. Let your father and your mother be glad, And let her who bore you rejoice.” Proverbs 23:24-25 NKJV

The character and lifestyle of children affect the joy elevation of fathers and mothers.

When children live with godly principles in righteousness and wisdom, as they enter into a relationship with Jesus by faith, an upward perspective or paradigm lift ensues in the hearts of their parents. They elevate the family's standards of living to a whole new spiritual realm. Drawing a child to God to become righteous and wise by grace through faith in Jesus Christ is every parents' highest call. Great joy it is when fathers and mothers watch their children walk with God.

So, as children to parents who loved us the best they know how - flawed and imperfect as they are, we too have a call. We are to stand righteous in God's sight by faith in Jesus. Depend on Him. It's for our good to honor those who raised us. It is written: ““Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise— “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.”” (Ephesians 6:1-3 NIV)


Hence, we are to walk rightly and wisely! And be reminded ourselves with these words: “Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one’s youth. Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them! He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.” (Psalm 127:3-5 ESV)

And I say, AMEN!

Proverbs 23:23 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“Buy the truth, and do not sell it, Also wisdom and instruction and understanding.” (Proverbs 23:23 NKJV)

This passage, in essence, commands us to go shopping for ingredients of freedom. Yes, that's freedom from all types of bondage by a sinful world. That’s freedom from religion and wrong believing! We are to seek, to secure and believe, to ‘buy the Truth’! The truth, along with spices of wisdom and instruction and understanding, is our only way to be set free. And it can only be obtained through God's holy and written Words, by grace through faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. “To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:31-32 NIV)

Grace and truth came through Jesus Christ (John 1:17b). It is written: “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9 NIV)

Now, that we know and found it, let us get hold of it through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Let's take possession of it at the cost of all that we have by total dependence upon Him, like the man who found the hidden treasure, and the merchant who found the fine pearls. Lord Jesus said, as it is written: “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field. “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.” (Matthew 13:44-46 NIV)

And I say, AMEN!

Proverbs 23:22 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says...

“Listen to your father who begot you, And do not despise your mother when she is old.” (Proverbs 23:22 NKJV)

Parents are ordained by God in His creative design. Nobody wants for a son and a daughter to succeed in life more than their dad doing his best in God's grace. He, the God of all creations, who formed each and everyone walking on this earth, understands it. Every loving parents' task is to pass on the things they learned about living to their children and their children's children.

The eternal counsel of heaven flows to the child through the father and the mother who bear them. Honoring and listening to them is the key to a blessed life (Ephesians 6:1-3). Any disrespect we display on them is treason against the design of God's benevolence and sovereignty. It inhibits the flow of the fullness of His divine purpose for us. Listening to our father and honoring our mother is God's simple way of connecting us to the resources of heaven for a life well lived for the glory of Him, our Creator. So that when this journey is over, we find our way into the presence of our Heavenly Father.

As God's children by grace through faith in Christ Jesus, it is fitting for us to reflect on these words, as the Psalmist declares: “For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them. How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! If I would count them, they are more than the sand. I awake, and I am still with you.” (Psalm 139:13-18 ESV)

And I say, AMEN!

Proverbs 23:19-21 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“Hear, my son, and be wise; And guide your heart in the way. Do not mix with winebibbers, Or with gluttonous eaters of meat; For the drunkard and the glutton will come to poverty, And drowsiness will clothe a man with rags.” (Proverbs 23:19-21 NKJV)

This passage is calling every child - son or daughter - to be wise and act like one should, by taking control of the handle of the desires of our heart. Stay away from overindulgence in wine and the gobbling of food. Our heart must be guided to “Grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (II Peter 3:18a)

By faith in the Lord Jesus Christ through His grace, wise it is to walk in the Spirit, and you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh. Say goodbye to cravings with too much eating and drinking. A lack of self-control can lead to drunkenness, gluttony, and then to laziness… and from there to poverty. Drowsy? Beware, lest you end up in rags. “This is why it is said: “Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.” Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.” (Ephesians 5:14-16 NIV)

Thus, as sons and daughters of God in Christ, these passages instruct and warn us! Yes, it is written, God’s holy and written Words remind: “The night is far gone; the day is at hand. So then let us cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light. Let us walk properly as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and sensuality, not in quarreling and jealousy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.” (Romans 13:12-14 ESV)

Proverbs 23:17-18 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says…

“Do not let your heart envy sinners, But be zealous for the fear of the Lord all the day; For surely there is a hereafter, And your hope will not be cut off.” (Proverbs 23:17-18 NKJV)

This command reveals several issues that we can be caught up with, when we focus our sight wrongly, which we must vehemently reject.

Here are what pop up out of these passages:

*Being focused on possessions, instead of right position with God;

*Comparing self with others, most specially with the un-godly; and

*Having a discontented heart, as opposed to a grateful one.

These lead to many other forms of unholiness. “For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.”(James 3:16 NIV)

What we OUGHT to do is focus our eyes on the Lord Jesus Christ. Keep Him First at the forefront of our minds. He is our hope and future for the hereafter. So, in His grace by faith in Him, let's keep walking in reverent fear of the Lord. We must stay connected with our hope. And, be reminded by these words of exhortation, as it is written “Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:1-2 ESV)

And I say, AMEN!

Proverbs 23:15-16 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says…

“My son, if your heart is wise, My heart will rejoice—indeed, I myself; Yes, my inmost being will rejoice When your lips speak right things.” (Proverbs 23:15-16 NKJV)

This passage is addressed to all sons and daughters of grace of the Most High God, in Christ by faith. If we possess wisdom in our heart, as we should, and if our mouth speaks of righteousness, as we must, He, our Father in Heaven, puts us in the know that He rejoices in the depth of His being. Such an assuring and motivating declaration!

In a human context mirroring upon God, the greatest honor and gift children can give their parents is to be wise and live as one who is, in grace and truth by faith in Jesus. Think of the joy of the parents of those people favored and used by God in the Bible. In Genesis chapter 5 we have, Jared for Enoch! Lamech for Noah! In Genesis chapter 11 we have Terah for Abram, whom God called! Jacob for Joseph, who was made in-charge of all Egypt (Genesis 41:43)! 

Amram and Jochebed for Moses who led God's people from Egypt in Exodus! Joash for Gideon! Hannah for Samuel! Jesse for David, the man who was after God's heart! David for Solomon, the wisest King ever lived! Zacharias and Elisabeth for John, the Baptist! And, the young apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ: Zebedee for James and John! Jonah for Andrew and Peter! And, Eunice and Lois for Timothy, the young post-resurrection servant in the Lord's vineyard! Those parents' hearts for sure are overflowing with exuberance and gladness, knowing their children are giving delight to the God of all creation.

We may not be as prominent as we are in the eyes of the world, but in God's eyes we are by faith in Christ Jesus. And, His delight is upon us, as we walk in the truth. Apostle John, "the disciple who Jesus loves" wrote us this love letter: “Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, as it goes well with your soul. For I rejoiced greatly when the brothers came and testified to your truth, as indeed you are walking in the truth. I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.” (3 John 1:2-4 ESV)

And I Say, AMEN!

Proverbs 23:13-14 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

“Do not withhold correction from a child, For if you beat him with a rod, he will not die. You shall beat him with a rod, And deliver his soul from hell.” (Proverbs 23:13-14 NKJV)

God's words give so much emphasis on correcting a child. It is our Heavenly Father's innate purpose for each and every child to grow and lead the life He designed them to be. And, that is every parent's dream, seeing their children become the kind of person God has purposed them to have - a life of excellence and success in the sight of God in every endeavors they take.

Hence, He reminds every parent not to restrain correction, knowing that every parent is tempted to withhold it. Discipline is painful. And, no parent wants to see and hear their jewel child cry. But, true love for a child looks beyond the now and the tears. For every child, God has a life of hope and future. We are all predestined for His glory. That's what matters - a life set for eternity. This passage reminds that withholding the rod as a last resort for discipline is not love. It is the embodiment of “hatred” - like paving a child's path to eternal damnation and hell.

As sons and daughters of God in Christ by faith, we have a calling and a mission. For our serious reflection, His edifying words declare: “And have you forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as sons? “My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor be weary when reproved by him. For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives.” It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline? If you are left without discipline, in which all have participated, then you are illegitimate children and not sons. Besides this, we have had earthly fathers who disciplined us and we respected them. Shall we not much more be subject to the Father of spirits and live? For they disciplined us for a short time as it seemed best to them, but he disciplines us for our good, that we may share his holiness. For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.” (Hebrews 12:5-11 ESV)

And I say, AMEN!

Proverbs 23:12 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says …

“Apply your heart to instruction, And your ears to words of knowledge.” (Proverbs 23:12 NKJV)

This passage is driving in the importance of taking to heart God's Words of life. It is referring to the BIBLE which in essence is the acronym for B-asic I-nstruction B-efore L-eaving E-arth. We bring in God's holy and written Word into our heart by leaning our ears in His Words to acquire knowledge and wisdom. It is vital that this Word of life be delivered aptly into the core of our hearts, as it is in our hearts where the issues of life spring up from. When the heart is not filled with the abundance of the seed of God's Word, the heart of the matter of life will be the matter of the heart. Unwanted and unnecessary results crop up, when the heart is not filled with God's Word. Good or bad, what enters in our ears, gets through our minds to undertake a renewing process and then penetrates our hearts to germinate. Then, it sprouts to manifest in our day-to-day living. Bad seed of word brings forth bad fruit. Good seed of God's Word brings forth good fruit.

Hence, blessed are we as we stay exposed to the Word of knowledge that comes from the mouth of God. With the guidance of the Holy Spirit in Christ Jesus we shall walk in the way of the Lord. We are not forsaken. As we walk in His grace by faith in Christ Jesus, the Psalmist declares: “Blessed are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the Lord! Blessed are those who keep his testimonies, who seek him with their whole heart, who also do no wrong, but walk in his ways! You have commanded your precepts to be kept diligently. Oh that my ways may be steadfast in keeping your statutes! Then I shall not be put to shame, having my eyes fixed on all your commandments. I will praise you with an upright heart, when I learn your righteous rules. I will keep your statutes; do not utterly forsake me!” (Psalm 119:1-8 ESV)

And I say, AMEN!

Proverbs 23:10-11 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

“Do not remove the ancient landmark, Nor enter the fields of the fatherless; For their Redeemer is mighty; He will plead their cause against you.” (Proverbs 23:10-11 NKJV)

Harshest ramifications are for people, who move markers and steals orphans' domain of living, from the Omnipotent God Jehovah. It is what this passage warns. Our Heavenly Father's heart is for the fatherless. A greedy and wicked fool who takes advantage of the helpless should know that all power of heaven is pledged for their cause.

Using the metaphor of physical boundaries and ancient landmarks that must not be messed up with, God is reminding again of His moral and spiritual boundaries that should not be moved, lest one pays a heavy price. Moving such boundaries bring curse to a person, or to a nation to degeneration and discord. Like when our nation moved God's boundaries, horrible price is to be paid. In the 1960s our nation moved markers of prayers and honor for God’s Words away from schools and public offices. In the 1970s the nation's ungodly politicians moved another ancient landmark and declared open season for the murder of the innocents and the unborn. And, to date, those ungodly politicians still continue moving markers after markers of God about immorality, family, marriage and sexuality - even attempting to totally evict God from our way of life as a nation. Some are openly rebelling against God’s creative order.

The God of those markers is ALL POWERFUL - and for every boundary pushed away there will be a costly price. Are we willing to continue to pay it? Our nation is waning and sliding on a downward spiral. As children of God in Christ Jesus by faith, the time is now to take a stand and plant our heels on solid rock of God's holy and written Words. We must vote prayerfully for people that honors God by faith in Jesus. Not the politically correct, nor the religiously pious. We have to vote using the filter of the holy and written Words of the true God who sends His only begotten Son our Lord Jesus Christ.

We must, therefore, return to the confines of God's markers and pray. Protect the fatherless and the motherless. And, yes the unborn! Let's restore the ancient landmarks - lest, it'd be too late. Restoration and revival is now! The Lord promised: “if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14 ESV)

And I say, AMEN!

Proverbs 23:9 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“Do not speak in the hearing of a fool, For he will despise the wisdom of your words.” (Proverbs 23:9 NKJV)

As children of God, dependent on His grace by faith in Christ Jesus, we are commanded and warned to critically evaluate and profile who we speak to. We don’t assume that everyone you talk to will have the same desire for words of wisdom as we do. Identifying a fool is essential, to avoid conflict and frustration. We are to take the approach of prayerful appraisal. Knowing who we interact with, with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, is a vital step we must do before we take action towards tackling anyone with God's divine Word. It could be a waste of time and energy speaking to them and in their presence, without the unction and leading of the Spirit of the Lord.

The wisdom of God's Words and its value to life for those who are wise are costlier than gold. Hence, it must be handled with consciousness and reverent care. Speaking nuggets of wisdom into the ears of fools is like throwing your pearls before pigs. They hate and desecrate it. They will "cancel" you, as they do in today's culture of the world. We should strive not to become and behave like they do in a tit for tat fashion. We must rest in the grace of the Lord Jesus through faith. And, we are to love everybody - fools or smarts, enemies or friends, hated or liked. All the same, must be loved. 

Nevertheless, in spite of this dilemma, we still and must strive to speak words of wisdom in their presence - to whoever and wherever, not haphazardly but driven by love and led by the Holy Spirit. On matters of sharing the Lord's holy and written Words, we must always remember of this caution from the Lord Jesus Christ. He said: “Do not give dogs what is holy, and do not throw your pearls before pigs, lest they trample them underfoot and turn to attack you.” (Matthew 7:6 ESV)

And I say, AMEN!

Proverbs 23:6-8 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says…

“Do not eat the bread of a miser, Nor desire his delicacies; For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. “Eat and drink!” he says to you, But his heart is not with you. The morsel you have eaten, you will vomit up, And waste your pleasant words.” (Proverbs 23:6-8 NKJV)

This passage warns of partaking in a miser's banquet. There's a catch! He has ulterior motives, that you end up with regrets and wished you have not eaten his fine-looking but tasteless and deceptive food. Your compliments will just be wasted. Selfish people have only one thing set in their minds and hearts - to get something. Hoarding material things are their mission. They don't just give out for nothing. They operate like timeshare sales. They invite you for a free weekend, then you end up spending more than the cost of your freebie. And, you end up wishing you had just paid for it in the first place.

It is a sad state, to think of. But, a lesson to be learned. Having been saved by the blood of Jesus by grace through faith, we ought to stay guided by the Holy Spirit. And, it is fitting to reflect this reminder of God's Words. His Words keep us grounded on the solid rock of the truth, so as not be drawn to vanity. It is written: “Again, I saw vanity under the sun: one person who has no other, either son or brother, yet there is no end to all his toil, and his eyes are never satisfied with riches, so that he never asks, “For whom am I toiling and depriving myself of pleasure?” This also is vanity and an unhappy business.” (Ecclesiastes 4:7-8 ESV)

And I say, AMEN!

Proverbs 23:4-5 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says…

“Do not overwork to be rich; Because of your own understanding, cease! Will you set your eyes on that which is not? For riches certainly make themselves wings; They fly away like an eagle toward heaven.” (Proverbs 23:4-5 NKJV)

He calls, Stop! This passage emphatically orders to cease working beyond what's essential for life - focused on amassing material possessions. We are to transcend from our own earthly line of thinking to God's heavenly thoughts. Rather, if we work harder than we ought to, we are to do it not for gaining lots of material things that we can see, but for things that can't be seen. Chasing after material things under the sun is a "chasing after the wind"(Ecclesiastes 1:24 NIV). One may get hold of it for a while, but in an instant it is gone. It flies away as it takes its wings. If not, one who chases it, will go and leave it behind. Either way, the effort is "Meaningless! Meaningless!” says the Teacher. “Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless.”"
(Ecclesiastes 1:2 NIV)

In Christ Jesus, having His Lordship in our life by faith, and in His grace, we are always made aware - “Things that are seen don't last forever, but things that are not seen are eternal. This is why we keep our minds on the things that cannot be seen.” (2 Corinthians 4:18 CEV)

Dangers lurk behind temporal riches. Hence, it is always wise to take to heart this warning from Apostle Paul: “But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.” (1 Timothy 6:9-10 ESV)

And I say, AMEN!

Proverbs 23:1-3 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says…

“When you sit down to eat with a ruler, Consider carefully what is before you; And put a knife to your throat If you are a man given to appetite. Do not desire his delicacies, For they are deceptive food.” (Proverbs 23:1-3 NKJV)

These passages are telling us to be savvy diner, so as not become a table roast. The dining table of the mighty can be a set-up for a nasty predicament. It could be a place of celebration or a place of consternation. It could be a covert trap, too! The enticing delicacies it flaunt are possible baits that may hook you in for a surprise kill, like Haman at the table of queen Esther, the Jewish wife of King Xerxes of the Persian Empire.

Haman was scheming to annihilate the Jews, the people of queen Esther. So, Esther invited Haman to a banquet to set him up. And, the poor nitwit gobbled her 'delicacies' with fervor, having been given the special invitation by the queen. Beaming with pride for the honor of being the only official invited to dine with the royal couple, he boasted with his family and friends his continuing rise to influence and power in the Empire. His only chagrin was Mordecai who doesn't bow before him. On the suggestion of his family and friends, he built a Fifty cubits high pole to hang Esther's 'defiant' cousin Mordecai on (Esther 5:9-14).

As children of God in Christ Jesus, we are to live wisely guided by the Holy Spirit, resting in His grace by faith. Lord Jesus said: “I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves." (Matthew 10:16) 

Hence, Haman's case is a good lesson for us to learn from and be cautious sitting to eat at a ruler's table. He strode blindly to his brutal death. Or, more aptly - he ate his way with a knife "in" his throat, not knowing that Esther was his enemy. He was impaled on the pole he himself built, as Queen Esther exposed to the King his dark plot against her people. The Scriptures say: “Then Harbona, one of the eunuchs in attendance on the king, said, “Moreover, the gallows that Haman has prepared for Mordecai, whose word saved the king, is standing at Haman’s house, fifty cubits high.” And the king said, “Hang him on that.” So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then the wrath of the king abated.” (Esther 7:9-10 ESV)

And I say, AMEN!

Proverbs 22:29 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

“Do you see a man who excels in his work? He will stand before kings; He will not stand before unknown men.” (Proverbs 22:29 NKJV)

We are designed to do great things that can touch many, even to serve kings. God built that in us when He made us! If ever there are mediocre people who stand before unknown people (i.e. in the realm of wickedness), they are not performing in their full ability and capability. They are those that allow the father of lies to deceive them to think they are good for nothing. Sadly, many are deceived. Like what's going in our country, where there is supposed to be no poor. Our Capitalist System empowers us all with freedom to excel and harness our full potential. It is unfortunate to see mediocrity celebrated. Our system has been unfortunately corrupted by some ungodly politicians who hijacked it. Below standard effort is fanned by declaration and acceptance of poverty - affirmed by promises and fork out of handouts which lead people to think they are indeed poor. Many are now stripped of the freedom to accomplish their God-given ability to excel, for the option of dependence on legalized alms.

But, that is not the truth. We, all of God's creation, are rich with all potentialities to be the best and for the best of what we can be. We just have to believe and put it to use - do things God's way. Not man's way. Not politician's way. When we do things God's way, we manifest the best in us and stand before kings like Joseph, and Mordecai, and Daniel. The Scriptures tell us of Joseph: "His master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord caused all that he did to succeed in his hands. So Joseph found favor in his sight and attended him, and he made him overseer of his house and put him in charge of all that he had.” (Genesis 39:3, 4 ESV)

Joseph excelled in what he did and was made ruler of all Egypt (Genesis 41:41). It is written: "Now Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh, king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh and went through all the land of Egypt.” (Genesis 41:46 NASB)

Proverbs 22:28 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

“Do not remove the ancient landmark Which your fathers have set.” (Proverbs 22:28 NKJV)

Using the analogy of ancient landmark not to be removed (which is of the essence to the lives of the early days of Israel, and every nation of today, for that matter) this passage intends to remind us not to tamper on God's timeless landmark of truth. We are warned not to desecrate the boundaries of heavenly norms for living that He firmly established to guide in our journey to the future, from generation to generation.

This is right on the spot. We are continuously experiencing turmoil in our nation where landmarks set by our fathers are ravaged. Those landmarks were to remind us to honor the core on which this nation was founded which sadly were not only moved, but torn down and gutted on the ground. The ungodly and grateful are bent to trample on God's Word. They aim to destroy the legacy of the past generation. They have no respect and appreciation that knowledge and remembrance of the past, help in growing into a refined, strong and better future. Most especially, knowing that this great nation was founded on the Judeo-Christian beliefs and values, guides every citizen to stand on Biblical world view in building a prosperous nation.

We have been blessed and will continue to be blessed as long as our nation honors the sovereignty of Lord Jesus Christ and be governed by the standard of His holy and written Word. In His grace by faith, His promise stands, as it is written, God says: “When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command the locust to devour the land, or send pestilence among my people, if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:13-14 ESV)

And I say, AMEN!

Proverbs 22:26-27 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

“Do not be one of those who shakes hands in a pledge, One of those who is surety for debts; If you have nothing with which to pay, Why should he take away your bed from under you?” (Proverbs 22:26-27 NKJV)

This passage is a bullseye reminder for everyone. Unbeknownst, due to decisions made with un-biblical world view, all citizens of heavily debt-laden nations have been tied into shaking hands in a pledge, coercively. Like in this great nation, we are all made collateral by the people some have elected to lead our nation - many of whom have no faith in the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, and the Lord Jesus Christ. There are people who are in places of power who have no relationship with Jesus. They are those who reject God's Word of truth for guidance in decision making. As a result, we are all made surety for over Thirty One Trillion Dollars debt. It's becoming not a question anymore that a time is coming, which is now very eminent - 'your bed could be taken away from under you!'

This warning should nudge all, who slumber in their ungodliness, to wake up. Start seeking the truth and the kingdom of God and make decisions guided by the wisdom of God's holy and written Word. If only every citizen returns to the Christian values on which this nation was founded; totally surrender sovereignty of our lives to the Lordship of Christ Jesus; He will send the Holy Spirit to teach us how and who to vote to lead our Nation. He guides us to all truth. By grace, He will set us free, God willing, from being a hapless surety.

Yeah, let's let His word set us free! Make His word the filter through which we see the world and be set free, indeed! It is written: “So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”” (John 8:31-32 ESV)

And I say, AMEN!

Proverbs 22:24-25 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

“Make no friendship with an angry man, And with a furious man do not go, Lest you learn his ways And set a snare for your soul.” (Proverbs 22:24-25 NKJV)

Uncontrolled anger can adversely affect a person's health, self-esteem, relationships, the well-being of family, and productivity at work. It can lead to such abhorrent behaviors as road rage, domestic violence, child abuse, physical assault, and murder. It's been well documented that chronic levels of anger are linked with illnesses of hypertension, insomnia, anxiety, depression, cardiovascular disorder, digestive issues and eczema.

Hence, this is a dire warning from God's holy and written Words for our well being. Heeding this is of great importance for our self and for the people we care, most specially for preservation of our soul's eternal destiny. The reason why this passage strongly tells us not to associate with angry and furious people? They could ensnare anyone they hang out with, to become one of them. Or, to become a collateral victim of their destructive behaviors. 

Hence, we are to take seriously Apostle Paul's instruction to us all - who have been saved by grace through faith in Christ Jesus. It is written: "Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? What harmony is there between Christ and Belial? Or what does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people.”” (2 Corinthians 6:14-16 NIV)

And I say, AMEN!

Proverbs 22:22-23 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

“Do not rob the poor because he is poor, Nor oppress the afflicted at the gate; For the Lord will plead their cause, And plunder the soul of those who plunder them.” (
Proverbs 22:22-23 NKJV)

Rob the poor!? What can anyone take from someone who lacks the sufficiency to live? This passage is sending a very serious warning to the worst of the worse - those who target the poor that has no material possessions to seize upon other than their dignity and life. Yes, there are low-lifers who do just that. They plunder the helpless of whatever left in their being. They squeeze out from the poor and the afflicted every ounce of breathe and strength they have. They oppress them hard. Reminiscent of the Israelites' slavery in Egypt: “So the Egyptians made the Israelites their slaves. They appointed brutal slave drivers over them, hoping to wear them down with crushing labor.” (Exodus 1:11a NLT)

But, God never abandons His people, as He does too to all the redeemed by the blood of Jesus through faith in Him. Resting in His grace with our faith in Jesus, He will plead our cause, like when He rescued the Israelites from enslavement in Egypt. It is written: “And the Lord had given the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they let them have what they asked. Thus they plundered the Egyptians.” (Exodus 12:36 ESV)

And I say, AMEN!

Proverbs 22:17-21 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

“Incline your ear and hear the words of the wise, And apply your heart to my knowledge; For it is a pleasant thing if you keep them within you; Let them all be fixed upon your lips, So that your trust may be in the Lord; I have instructed you today, even you. Have I not written to you excellent things Of counsels and knowledge, That I may make you know the certainty of the words of truth, That you may answer words of truth To those who send to you?” (Proverbs 22:17-21 NKJV)

This is a privileged clue He gave us how we can take a strong grip of the Words of truth. We are to lean and strain our ears to catch the wise counsels of God. We must never allow any distractions to rob us from getting hold of the knowledge that brings life written in our heart - the words that adorn our lips with grace.

Yes, we are to hunger always for more of God's Words of truth and grab hold of it in the process of continuing intake and exposure day by day, and moment to moment. We must be mindful always, one of the reasons we learn the truth is so that we can pass it on to others after we have applied it to our lives. Not only are we to get saved by the truth of God's Word, but we must also minister truth everywhere we go. We are sent!

Hence, for the glory of Him who sent us, we must be ready always to articulate (in action and in words) our faith to whoever comes and ask us what we believe. Apostle Peter tasked us that with these passages: "Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it. But do this in a gentle and respectful way. Keep your conscience clear. Then if people speak against you, they will be ashamed when they see what a good life you live because you belong to Christ.” (1 Peter 3:15, 16 NLT)

And I say, AMEN!

Proverbs 22:16 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

“He who oppresses the poor to increase his riches, And he who gives to the rich, will surely come to poverty.” (Proverbs 22:16 NKJV)

He gives us a peek on the doomed system of the wicked. How he works about his business to enrich himself is squarely against God's established system of righteous living. The wicked oppresses the poor to pander the rich. And, it comes to naught. They may look (in the natural eye) as if to have abundance of material things, milling around their moneyed circle, seemingly enjoying a riotous lifestyle of extravagance, lavishly feasting here and carousing there. But, deep inside are haunted with turmoil and lack of peace. It is written: "But the wicked are like the troubled sea, for it cannot rest, and its waters cast up mire and dirt. There is no peace, says my God, for the wicked.” (Isaiah 57:20, 21 AMP)

But the generous person who goes after God is blessed. Allowing the grace of God to dominate our lives through faith in Christ Jesus, we are filled in the sufficiency of His provision of grace. Yes, if we do what is good in the ways of the Lord to help others, especially those in need, we shall build treasures to last and gain true life. Let's take on Apostle Paul's challenge in his letter to Timothy. It is written: "Teach those who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust in their money, which is so unreliable. Their trust should be in God, who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment. Tell them to use their money to do good. They should be rich in good works and generous to those in need, always being ready to share with others. By doing this they will be storing up their treasure as a good foundation for the future so that they may experience true life." (1 Timothy 6:17-19 NLT)

And I say, AMEN!

Proverbs 22:15 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

“A youngster’s heart is filled with foolishness, but physical discipline will drive it far away. “(Proverbs 22:15 NLT)

What an amazing reminder! It's right on the spot and at the right moment, as our nation is in a generation of appeasement, as it takes up the challenges of rebellion against the law of God. We are seeing parents stripped of their God-given authority to teach their children God's ways of righteousness. That's orchestrated under the pretext of protecting the children against few abusive parents - creating monsters as a result. If only the godly pillars of our homes are edified and enabled to do their job God's way, there would be more families made whole and lesser abuses in the homes, lesser crimes in our streets and fewer jail cells needed, better safety in our community and deeper peace reigns in our nation. Parents must be allowed to honor their role to guard their children from being filled with fooleries. Discipline aligned with God's Word is a necessity to drive in heavenly values of eternal significance and keep our youths' hearts pure.

Yes, the process of correction could be painful at times. But, it brings redemption that leads to a righteous way of living. In grace by faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, the scriptures assure these words of promise: "For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.” (Hebrews 12:11 ESV)

And I say, AMEN!

Proverbs 22:14 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

“The mouth of an immoral woman is a deep pit; He who is abhorred by the Lord will fall there.” (Proverbs 22:14 NKJV)

We are warned of the great danger engaging the sweet talk of a seductress. You will certainly fall into the deep ditch of her enticements. Adultery and fornication, as with all sins, are spiritually fatal. Many lives are broken, families hurt, relationships damaged, businesses failing and spiritual journey abruptly interrupted because of men and women straying into adulterous grounds. Especially those who choose to deny God's rightful place in their hearts, they plunge straight down the pit of destruction, as the femme fatale trips their shaky footing.

But, those who choose to allow God in their lives, as we must - having been redeemed heftily by the blood of Jesus, have the Holy Spirit to guide our walk. He helps us avoid the snares and traps of the enemy of our soul. Resting in His grace by faith, He resides in us and makes our body His temple (1 Corinthians 6:19). He keeps us mindful and deliberate in our every step. He helps us stay away from 'that woman', as Apostle Paul exhorts us with this passage: "Run from sexual sin! No other sin so clearly affects the body as this one does. For sexual immorality is a sin against your own body. Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.” (1 Corinthians 6:18-20 NLT)

And I say, AMEN!
