Proverbs 27:7 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“The full soul loatheth an honeycomb; But to the hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.” (Proverbs 27:7 KJV)

Talking about physical satiation and hunger, this passage states the fact - in a famish state one can eat anything in sight. On the other hand, even the finest dish there is, couldn't tempt a full stomach. This drives in a very important message to reflect on. It is not the desires of the gut the matter. Hunger and thirst in the physical realm are fleeting. It comes and goes. Filling it is only for temporal satisfaction.

Real fullness and true contentment come through seeking first and foremost the Kingdom of God (Matthew 6:33). Yes, that's in the spiritual realm. A hunger and a thirst for things above, which is being right with God through faith in Jesus, must be at the core of our being. The quenching power of the Spirit of God brings genuine lasting pleasure. The Lord Jesus described it like a spring of living water welling from within us to eternity (John 4:14). Resting in His finished work on the cross by grace through faith in Him, blessings of fullness will be upon us, as Lord Jesus declared: ““Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.” (Matthew 5:6 ESV)

Proverbs 27:6 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“Faithful are the wounds of a friend; But the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.” (Proverbs 27:6 KJV)

True friendship indeed inflicts wounds in their healthy and honest rebukes when one goes astray and does things that pose danger to their well-being. In such an authentic and committed relationship, one could create a wedge in between, but their faithful bond will always prevail to repair and restore. Such a very useful reminder this passage is for the value of genuine friendship. Being members in the body of Christ Jesus, resting in His grace by faith in Him, we are bonded by the Lord’s unconditional love. The Lord Jesus during His last moments with His disciples said: “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another (John 13:34 NIV).

This passage also stirs us to be mindful of deceitful ploys of the enemy who comes like an angel of light but with heart full of darkness and hatred. They flatter and heap semblance of affection. Yes, they even smother you with their kisses of betrayal and death, reminiscent of what Judas, the traitor, did to our Lord Jesus Christ in the garden of Gethsemane at the Mt of Olives. It is written: “While he was still speaking, there came a crowd, and the man called Judas, one of the twelve, was leading them. He drew near to Jesus to kiss him, but Jesus said to him, “Judas, would you betray the Son of Man with a kiss?”” (Luke 22:47-48 ESV)

Proverbs 27:5 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“Open rebuke is better Than secret love.” (Proverbs 27:5 KJV)

Here’s a pop up alert that collides directly with the world’s doctrine of political correctness. This passage tacitly says that rebuke is an expression of love! But the world says, you can’t do that even to your children who are entrusted by God to your care. What is said and how it is said are very important for the best interest of the corrected. It aims for a life well-lived. However, sometimes, no matter how lovingly a life-changing truth is served (Ephesians 4:15), some still scoff at it, revealing the mark of a fool (Proverbs 1:22). But, even if some will not listen to an honest and loving reproof, it is not a reason to refrain from giving a loving act of correction. The world’s interest is not what matters. It is God’s intent on our relationship with Him and others that matters. He loves us all! And, being His children of grace by faith Christ Jesus, we are to love one another (John 13:34)!

Open rebuke means straightforward corrective criticism expressed without dressing up right on the face of someone you care. The more open and honest, the more heartfelt and painful the act could be to both the corrected and the corrector. But, painful it might be to an injured ego, it is better than hidden love. Love unrevealed is of no benefit to the object there of, and robs the joy of expression from the one who loves. The absence of honest rebuke is the hidden 'love' in question. True love expresses and not sulks. It rebukes when called for, to save a life of someone so dear.

As a truly reborn child of God by grace through faith in Christ Jesus, correction is a hallmark of love, in all levels of caring relationships, especially in the bond of parents and children. The scriptures declare this truth of our Heavenly Father's love which is the foundation of earthly filiation. It is written: “And have you completely forgotten this word of encouragement that addresses you as a father addresses his son? It says, “My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline, and do not lose heart when he rebukes you, because the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and he chastens everyone he accepts as his son.”” (Hebrews 12:5-6 NIV)

Proverbs 27:4 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“Wrath is cruel, and anger is outrageous; But who is able to stand before envy?” (Proverbs 27:4 KJV)

It has been said that: In this competitive world, it is not the successful you should be wary of. They want you to succeed. It is those who failed you need to watch out. They want you to fail! When people who failed at what you do and see success looking favorably on you, they feel belittled and scorned. Jealousy will possess them and make them your enemy. They’d hate you for what you become! And, they'll pursue you for the blessings that you have.

Wrath is cruel and anger overwhelms, this passage succinctly warns. Torrents of destruction could follow their wake, among those who have no cover of God's grace. In an incident in the book of Daniel, the king of Babylon, “Nebuchadnezzar was so furious with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego that his face became distorted with rage. He ordered to bind and throw them into the blazing furnace.” (Daniel 3:19-20 NLT). Why? A group of corrupt officials in the province of Babylon were jealous of these young men. They were hated for their integrity in doing their jobs. But, praise and glory to God, the same quality of character that these young men have saved them as they stood firm in their faith with the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. By faith in God, they withstood before envy! As with these young men, wrath and anger don't have a place in the hearts of those who are redeemed by the blood of Jesus.

Yet, who can stand before envy? We are warned! It is rottenness to the bones… it is a deadly emotional disease that rots, corrupts, and self-destructs a person from within. It makes you turn on you. It is like drinking poison, expecting someone else to die. Hence, for our own good, in Christ Jesus - by His Lordship resting in His grace through faith, we are reminded that: “Love is patient and kind; love does not ENVY or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.” (1 Corinthians 13:4-7 ESV)

Proverbs 27:3 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“A stone is heavy and sand is weighty, But a fool’s wrath is heavier than both of them.” (Proverbs 27:3 NKJV)

While doing some landscaping, I was moving gravel and sand to replace the old mulches and to level off some warped areas of the curb. At first, carrying a bucket full was quite easy. But, as time progressed, by mid-day the bucket grew heavier, and at sundown I barely could lift a bucket. This passage says, it is worse than that dealing with fools. At first encounter they look harmless and funny. But, as they hang around a bit, their follies weigh down on those around them.

The fool is the man who doesn't get it. He disdains God and His words. He does wrathful things and doesn't understand the burden that his actions are causing. Or, perhaps he just foolishly thought people enjoyed his presence and foolery. He, not only does it once, but repeats it again and again, weighing down those in his proximity.

Hence, as children of God by grace through faith in Jesus, we are reminded to reflect that: “The words of a wise man’s mouth win him favor, but the lips of a fool consume him. The beginning of the words of his mouth is foolishness, and the end of his talk is evil madness. A fool multiplies words, though no man knows what is to be, and who can tell him what will be after him? The toil of a fool wearies him, for he does not know the way to the city.” (Ecclesiastes 10:12-15 ESV)

And I say, AMEN!

Proverbs 27:2 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; A stranger, and not thine own lips.” (Proverbs 27:2 KJV)

We are commanded to NOT boast or to glorify ourselves. If there is any praise due, let it come from someone else—from a stranger… anyone, but self! Bragging makes mediocrity out of an otherwise exemplary performance. It is obnoxious and sick to the ears of those who hear it. As children of God by grace through faith in Christ Jesus, we are called to humility of being and of manner. On this side of the finished work of our Lord Jesus Christ on the cross, The Scriptures remind: "So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor." (1 Peter 5:6 NLT).

The more so before the presence of the Almighty God, scriptures say: “As it is, you boast in your arrogant schemes. All such boasting is evil (James 4:16 NIV).” Which reminds us of a man, who boasted in his prayer to God, in one of our Lord's teachings. “He also told this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and treated others with contempt: “Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee, standing by himself, prayed thus: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I get.’ But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner!’ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified, rather than the other. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”” (Luke 18:9-14 ESV)

Proverbs 27:1 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“Boast not thyself of to morrow; For thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.” (Proverbs 27:1 KJV)

Tomorrow is not ours. It is not ours to boast of. We have only today. Now is ours to live life on. And, we have the power to make this moment like God designed it to be, by making the right choices. God reminds us by this passage not look beyond today, lest we lose the opportunity to make this day a day of joy, peace and prosperity. We don't know how today turns out to be, the more so with tomorrow. But, we have the power of free will to let the Lord Jesus have reign in our life by faith in Him. We have His promise and assurance, for-“This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalms 118:24 NLT).

Today is the day of God's favor! Today - now is the time to receive His Lordship by believing in Him and rest in His grace. “For he says, “In the time of my favor I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you.” I tell you, now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation.”(2 Corinthians 6:2 NIV)

Hence, it is very important to receive His salvation now. Lest, tomorrow may not come. In the Book of James, we are given this reaffirming reminder: “Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit”— yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.”” (James 4:13-15 ESV)

Proverbs 26:28 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“A lying tongue hateth those that are afflicted by it; And a flattering mouth worketh ruin.” (Proverbs 26:28 KJV)

Lies and sweet talks are the favorite tool-combos of hateful people who work to hurt anyone they could. That's what the serpent did to Eve in the garden. Lies are fruits of the lips of those whose hearts are full of wrath. With lying tongue they worm in the lives of the vulnerable. They sneak on the unsuspecting, with their flattering lips, words smoother than butter, but hearts full of contempt. Yes, sleek as they are, they could catch you off guard.

Hence, this passage puts us in the know. So, we keep ourselves alert. We are to rest always in the presence of our Heavenly Father and Lord Jesus Christ. He protects us and fills us with His wisdom to discern. Being in the world, we will encounter them – yes slick and smooth, but with ugly hearts. Trusting always in the guidance of the Holy Spirit, in Christ Jesus our Lord, we are to be sober and watchful. And, be guided by these words: “Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world.” (1 Peter 5:6-9 ESV)

Proverbs 26:27 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“Whoever digs a pit will fall into it, And he who rolls a stone will have it roll back on him.” (Proverbs 26:27 NKJV)

God is warning that malicious entrapment will always backfire. One very profound example is Haman in the book of Esther. Reading through the short book of Esther, we encounter one vile person full of malice and spite. His name is Haman. He had it out for all Jews because he was angry at one, named Mordecai, Esther’s cousin who had raised her. Haman’s devious plot was to destroy a whole Jewish nation because of his hatred for one man who did not bow before him.

This harrowing story takes a drastic and very dramatic turn when Esther, the queen, takes a stand for her people; despite what the outcome could have been for her. She responded to Mordecai’s eye opening challenge. As he said to Esther, “For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father's family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?” (Esther 4:14). She put her life on the line for possible death to save her people. She did what no person has done, especially by a Jewish girl in exile. Not even done by any queen before her, she entered the royal court of the king uninvited. For her action of faith, Haman was hanged on the very gallows that he had built to hang Mordecai on. God meted justice upon Haman to stop his malicious plot against the Israelites - God's chosen people (Book of Esther).

God is reminding that we ought not be such a kind of person, like Hamman. As children of the Most High God by grace in Christ Jesus through faith, we are to rest on the assurance, we are protected and watched (Psalms 121:5-8). We neither dig pits nor roll stones on anyone. And, we need not take matters into our own hands, when on the edge of pit intended to hurt us or a boulder of peril is rolled towards our way. Rather, we call on Jesus and leave it all to Him and in our Heavenly Father’s mighty hands. We come before Him in prayer, and in fasting - when called for, like Esther’s resolve. Led by the Spirit of the Lord and guided by His Words, our attitude and posture should always be, to: “Sow for yourselves righteousness; reap steadfast love; break up your fallow ground, for it is the time to seek the Lord, that he may come and rain righteousness upon you.”(Hosea 10:12 ESV). And, He promised: When they call on me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue and honor them (Psalms 91:15 NLT).

Proverbs 26:23-26 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“Burning lips and a wicked heart Are like a potsherd covered with silver dross. He that hateth dissembleth with his lips, And layeth up deceit within him; When he speaketh fair, believe him not: For there are seven abominations in his heart. Whose hatred is covered by deceit, His wickedness shall be shewed before the whole congregation.” (Proverbs 26:23-26 KJV)

Hypocrisy! Lips and heart are likened to a ceramic coated with silver dross. It’s a picture of an earthenware wrapped beneath the dross/impure waste of silver. This reveals that the lips of the hateful display strange and phony whispers. And, we ought not easy prey to believe, even as they speak like they are fair, as behind the facade are ‘seven’ fullness of abominations and wickedness. It will be exposed! So, let's beware, and we shall be spared.

This is a warning to all children of God, re-born in the spirit by grace through faith in Christ Jesus, to be watchful. Lest, walking uncircumspect, we fall for their deceit. It reminds that we walk in the light of The Word of truth, to keep from being ensnared and be one of them. The Lord Jesus, when He addressed the religious men who were in their state of brokenness and hypocrisy, He says to them: ““Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you clean the outside of the cup and the plate, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence. You blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and the plate, that the outside also may be clean. “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but within are full of dead people’s bones and all uncleanness.” (Matthew 23:25-27 ESV)

Proverbs 26:22 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“The words of a talebearer are as wounds, And they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.” (Proverbs 26:22 KJV)

A tattletale, a talebearer, a gossip, a slanderer and others like them, are very dangerous characters that have been repeatedly highlighted for emphasis in the reminders of God’s Word. They carry poisonous lies and insinuations in their rabid lips. Early on during Bible times they peddled it on foot. Then, as human kind was "civilized" they spread it on tabloids. And, in this hi-tech generation they run amok in cyberspace, fake media and social media platforms. So, in this day and age, this reminder is of dire importance. God hates talking about others behind their backs, whether good or bad, or right on their faces using the power of the "press". Words of gossip and disparagement are wounds that go deep down in one's being. It hurts. It is destructive and deadly.

So, in Christ Jesus, being His redeemed by grace through faith, we are called to reject them - talebearers and others of their kind. Most importantly, we must not be one of them. Rather, we are to take the mantle as bearers of the gospel, the good news of salvation and life. As Lord Jesus commissioned the disciples, we are too. “And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.” (Mark 16:15-16 ESV)

Proverbs 26:20-21 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“Where there is no wood, the fire goes out; And where there is no talebearer, strife ceases. As charcoal is to burning coals, and wood to fire, So is a contentious man to kindle strife.” (Proverbs 26:20-21 NKJV)

Belligerence and gossip cause strife, these passages warn. Like wood that kindles a flaming fire and charcoal to burning coals, so are hearsays and contentions. Spreading innuendos, rumors, and negative information are the common causes of bad blood and dispute. Many are relationships fractured - brotherhoods, kinships, marriages, families, communities and nations - yes international relations, are broken. Individual conflict and war between nations are fought lighted and kindled by misinformation. Along with other factors, fake news enabled the 1898 war between America and Spain.

Hence, these passages are reminders to stop any ongoing strife and/or not to start one. Stop heaping firewood and coals on a highly combustible condition. Instead, have ready buckets of water of God’s holy and written Words and blow soothing cold breeze of love and truth. As God’s children by grace in Christ Jesus, this reminder from the epistle of Apostle Peter would be an assuring guide. “Finally, all of you, have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind. Do not repay evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary, bless, for to this you were called, that you may obtain a blessing. For “Whoever desires to love life and see good days, let him keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit; let him turn away from evil and do good; let him seek peace and pursue it.” (1 Peter 3:8-11 ESV)

Proverbs 26:18-19 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“Like a madman who throws firebrands, arrows, and death, Is the man who deceives his neighbor, And says, “I was only joking!”” (Proverbs 26:18-19 NKJV)

This passage is warning that a deceptive and trouble-making neighbor, who says he was only kidding when gets caught, is a very dangerous nut case. Better to have a cannibal as a neighbor than a man like that, as cannibals don't hunt in their neighborhood. They hunt far where no one knows them. But a mad man, as described in the passage, could set fire in a whim and randomly swings lethal weapons of destruction. He creates havoc and causes serious physical damage and death in the neighborhood.

Well, a neighbor who makes jokes by deception is certainly not the kind of neighbor or acquaintance or person to be in close contact with. Yes, we are in the world and they are too. It is likely that we will cross their path. But, we are not to carry their brand! In Christ Jesus by faith, we are not of the world. Living under the cover of His grace, we are to live in sobriety, by faith in Him. God's words warn: “But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people.” (2 Timothy 3:1-5 ESV)

Proverbs 26:17 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“He who passes by and meddles in a quarrel not his own Is like one who takes a dog by the ears.” (Proverbs 26:17 NKJV)

Even a dog as cute and lovable as Archie (he is my daughter Sarah’s cute Corgi), when taken by the ears, will certainly bite. And, that's a foolish thing to do. Also, that's what happens to a meddling person who gets in the fray in a seemingly harmless raucous. He'll get hurt. The reason why there are authorities in our civil society whom we can call to establish order. Although, sadly in our present day and age, there are ungodly personages of influence and leadership who want to eliminate them. And, we must stand for order and harmony. We should honor them and support them who enforce order. We must call on them for help. Unless of course, when a situation calls for a ‘Good Samaritan’ pacifier, then we must intervene not as a meddler. If ready to bear the price, then be pacifier for a very good reason. Otherwise, Apostle Peter warns: “If you suffer, it should not be as a murderer or thief or any other kind of criminal, or even as a meddler.”(1 Peter 4:15 NIV)

Yes, in Christ being children of God by grace through faith, we are driven by love and blessed to be peacemakers. And, Apostle Paul in his epistle to Thessaloniki exhorts us with imperative words - to mind our own business. “Now concerning brotherly love you have no need for anyone to write to you, for you yourselves have been taught by God to love one another, for that indeed is what you are doing to all the brothers throughout Macedonia. But we urge you, brothers, to do this more and more, and to aspire to live quietly, and to mind your own affairs, and to work with your hands, as we instructed you, so that you may walk properly before outsiders and be dependent on no one.” (1 Thessalonians 4:9-12 ESV)

Proverbs 26:16 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“The lazy man is wiser in his own eyes Than seven men who can answer sensibly.” (Proverbs 26:16 NKJV)

A sloth's self-appraisal is very generous and dangerous. Often, this person thinks that he is wiser than seven sensible people - that's in effect everybody - being represented by the number Seven, the number of completeness. He roams around town blowing his own horn. Yes, that's his nature. Why? He is who he is. He thinks he is the smartest and gets away with his corrupt ways. He believes he is better than men of good taste, men of good judgment and men of discretion. Hence, he just loafs around. But, God's Word warns: “Through laziness, the rafters sag; because of idle hands, the house leaks.”(Ecclesiastes 10:18 NIV)

As children of God by grace, through faith in Christ Jesus, we are reminded to do our allotted task while in this world, especially in serving true and spiritually re-born believers in Jesus. “For God is not unjust so as to overlook your work and the love that you have shown for his name in serving the saints, as you still do. And we desire each one of you to show the same earnestness to have the full assurance of hope until the end, so that you may not be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.” (Hebrews 6:10-12 ESV)

Proverbs 26:14-15 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“As the door turneth upon his hinges, So doth the slothful upon his bed. The slothful hideth his hand in his bosom; It grieveth him to bring it again to his mouth.” (Proverbs 26:14-15 KJV)

This passage tells us of a comical metaphor for a sloth. It is amusing to picture the motions of a lazy man on his bed - turning back and forth, waving like a door on its hinges. As the door is anchored on the door frame, so too a sluggard, is on his bed. He never gets anywhere as long as he is bolted on his bed by the spirit of indolence.

Like a door swinging while rusting on its hinges - squeaking and groaning, a lazy man complains the same of imaginary aches and pains. He grumbles of many things missing and lacking. But, he never lifts his hand to work to fill those that he perceives as missing and lacking. His hands are hidden in his bosom. He grieves even bringing it to his mouth to eat. It's too hard for him and wears him out. He is too foolish. He could not grasp that - “Blessed are all who fear the Lord, who walk in obedience to him. You will eat the fruit of your labor; blessings and prosperity will be yours (Psalms 128:1-2 NIV).”

Laziness is not a place to be for anyone who understands the walk of life on this planet. For us, and all those who accept Jesus the Lord of our life and been born again in the spirit, we are the redeemed of the Lord. And, in Christ, as God’s children by grace, we are quickened with these words. “Now we command you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you keep away from any brother who is walking in idleness and not in accord with the tradition that you received from us. For even when we were with you, we would give you this command: If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat.” (2 Thessalonians 3:6, 10 ESV)

Proverbs 26:13 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“The slothful man saith, There is a lion in the way; A lion is in the streets.” (Proverbs 26:13 KJV)

Excuses… Excuses... lame excuses! What lion is in the streets? The lion is in the jungle! There's no lion in the way! That is just a lazy man's lame excuse not to go to work. He just wants to daydream and do nothing. He refuses to exert effort. He starts and never finishes. He slumbers night and day. He doesn't make any progress in life and in anything. For in all of it, he has full of excuses - lame excuses!

This passage is alerting us, again, to test ourselves and ask: is this a description of me? If so, it's time to quicken up. Come to God! Seek Him for help! He breathes His Words of reminder to stir us up for a renewing in our habits, and that we may become fruitful workers in His vineyard.

In Christ Jesus, as we give Him Lordship of our lives and rest in His grace by faith, we transcend from slothfulness to diligence by the work of the Spirit of life. We are settled in the knowledge of the truth. Be sensitive of the promptings of the Holy Spirit. And, mindful of the power of His Words exhorting us, that in - “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.” (Colossians 3:23-24 ESV)

Proverbs 26:12 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“Do you see a man wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him.” (Proverbs 26:12 NKJV)

Wow! Thought, no one tops a fool?! Here comes the arrogant one, the exact replica of his father the devil. His father, the devil, considers himself the apple of his own eyes. He is the greatest fan of himself. He cares of no one but self. But remember, he who once was star of the morning, was fallen. Arrogance made him think he can be like God and he rebelled against God. He exalts himself and look on others down. He and his gangs of rebellious angels were cast out of heaven. Lord Jesus said - “For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, ..”(Matthew 23:12a NIV)

Anyone like this person and his father the devil, have no hope. Hence, as children of God by grace through faith in Christ Jesus, this passage is warning us not to be wise in our own eyes. We are to stay resting under the grace of our Lord. For they, who behave wise in their eyes apart from the Lord, have their fate settled. It is written: “How you are fallen from heaven, O Day Star, son of Dawn! How you are cut down to the ground, you who laid the nations low! You said in your heart, ‘I will ascend to heaven; above the stars of God I will set my throne on high; I will sit on the mount of assembly in the far reaches of the north; I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.’ But you are brought down to Sheol, to the far reaches of the pit.” (Isaiah 14:12-15 ESV)

Proverbs 26:11 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“As a dog returns to his own vomit, So a fool repeats his folly.” (Proverbs 26:11 NKJV)

This passage paints such a 'gross' mental picture, not to disgust us but to stress a profound warning against foolishness. Or, is it? Well, it is disgusting! And, we should be disgusted! There’s nothing more repulsive than a fool doing the same foolishness again and again. As they remain in their kind and ways of fools, they never change their rhythm.

God breathe these words to be revealed, not just to disrupt one's gut! And, yes it does! But, it also is to make us pause and trigger a turning around. The analogy crystallizes the fact that a fool knows that his actions upset his system and yet, like a dog, he gets back and do it again. That's foolish, indeed!

This nauseating imagery is to hopefully compel us to opt for and stay in the course of wisdom. Always stand in reverent fear of the Lord, our Creator. Anchor our faith in Him who saved us by His grace, Christ Jesus our Redeemer. It is, therefore, wise to reflect on this declaration of the Psalmist, that: “This is the destiny of fools, and of those who approve of their philosophy. (Selah)
They will travel to Sheol like sheep, with death as their shepherd. The godly will rule over them when the day of vindication dawns. Sheol will consume their bodies, and they will no longer live in impressive houses. But God will rescue my life from the power of Sheol; certainly he will pull me to safety. (Selah)”

Proverbs 26:10 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“Like an archer who wounds at random is one who hires a fool or any passer-by.”(Proverbs 26:10 NIV)

In the paraphrase version, it says: “Hire a fool or a drunk and you shoot yourself in the foot.” (Proverbs 26:10 MSG)

This warns against doing things without considering deeply the issue at hand, as any such action taken poses a looming unwanted implication. Such is an act of foolishness. As it is, naturally, all foolish actions always end in regrettable outcomes. It leaves in its wake damages that would have been avoided, "if only" things were considered and done in a wise way.

The illustration of hiring a fool or anyone at random is akin to an archer who wildly shoots at anything. He will of course hurt those who are in proximity and could even shot himself in the foot. Every foolish act always have adverse and unpleasant aftermath.

Hence, again this passage is a warning bell - to stop! Pause! Reflect! And, take time to examine the wreckage left behind by foolish random decisions and actions made in the past. Re-compose not to repeat unwise decision and let the past go. Then, let a new beginning in. Stop hiring counsels of fools, who reject God. Humble and listen to the voice of wisdom calling to a new season of blessings. Begin to live wisely in grace and truth of God's Words by faith in Christ Jesus. Knowing that He gave Himself for us, let this day be the day to decide and resolve: “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” (Galatians 2:20 ESV)

Proverbs 26:9 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“Like a thorn that goes into the hand of a drunkard Is a proverb in the mouth of fools.” (Proverbs 26:9 NKJV)

This passage reveals that wise teachings in the mouth of fools are as ineffective as a thorn in a drunkard's hand. The reality is a drunk is in a wasted state. If a thorn were to prick his hand, he would not notice it until when he sobers and find a wound in his hand. It's very likely that a drunkard goes deep into thorn brushes for worse injury failing to heed the early warning of thorn stabs. Why? He is drunk! He totally has no control of his faculties. One such good reason not to get drunk!

The same way a fool is with a life-giving lesson he mumbles in his mouth. Yes, he may have it, but not taken possession of it. He rejects it, even as he speaks. That's his nature. He doesn't heed to any kind of warning. He even mocks it. He does not follow the counsel of God. As it stands, “The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good.” (Psalms 14:1 NIV) Hence, wise lessons and sayings profit him nothing.

So, this passage is another reminder for us to be wise. It is a choice. We are called to choose wisdom and serve the God of ALL creation by faith in Christ Jesus. Today is the day to put our feet down, be wise. Fear God, as fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom (Proverbs 9:10). And, be in the know that as Children of God by grace -“The words of the wise heard in quiet are better than the shouting of a ruler among fools. Wisdom is better than weapons of war, but one sinner destroys much good.” (Ecclesiastes 9:17-18 ESV)

Proverbs 26:8 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“Like one who binds a stone in a sling Is he who gives honor to a fool.” (Proverbs 26:8 NKJV)

There is grave danger in giving honor to a fool, this passage warns. Using the illustration of one binding a stone in a sling gives the message that one who does as such sets him-self up for self-inflected injury. A stone projectile is not designed to be bound in a sling. Doing so won't release it to hit its intended target. It will just swing back to strike you.

Handling a sling requires knowledge and skill to make it useful, like David who defeated Goliath with it. Haphazardly, it could hurt you and others in your proximity. That's what happens when honor is given to an undeserving fool. Like installing people who rejects God in positions of authority, of which, we should stop. Lest, we end up receiving the brunt of their foolish and selfish decisions. Yes, as children of God in Christ, we are to pay honor to whom honor is owed (Romans 13:7). But we have to be discerning and wise, guided by God's holy and written Word.

In Christ Jesus, we are given wisdom for discernment. The Holy Spirit guides us in making righteous decisions who to honor and who not to honor, who to place and not to place in leadership roles. Fools are no-no! And, they are easy to spot. They are the darlings of the world, though, we should note. But, they give themselves away, as it is written: “Dead flies make the perfumer’s ointment give off a stench; so a little folly outweighs wisdom and honor. A wise man’s heart inclines him to the right, but a fool’s heart to the left. Even when the fool walks on the road, he lacks sense, and he says to everyone that he is a fool.” (Ecclesiastes 10:1-3 ESV)

Proverbs 26:7 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“The legs of the lame are not equal: So is a parable in the mouth of fools.” (Proverbs 26:7 KJV)

This passage alerts that a parable or wise teaching tool for learning is contorted and useless when uttered by the mouth of fools. It doesn't match, like the unequal limbs of a lame. Hence, any lesson, no matter how deep and profound, is meaningless coming from a fool.

This illustrative picture, of incongruity of fools with matters of wise teachings and parables, is a serious call for us to stay rooted on the path of wisdom - by reverent fear of the Lord. This is not wisdom of the world. Our litmus test is not acceptance of the world. Rather, we rest in the comfort of God's grace and peace. We are not dictated by the world’s approval rating. We have the assurance that, in Christ Jesus our Lord, in His grace the Father of glory gives us the Spirit of wisdom that the world vehemently resist (Luke 21:17).

Not as fools, but as wise, by right believing we stand on this affirming exhortation of Apostle Paul's epistle: “I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers, that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come.” (Ephesians 1:16-21 ESV)

Proverbs 26:6 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“He that sendeth a message by the hand of a fool Cutteth off the feet, and drinketh damage.” (Proverbs 26:6 KJV)

When a communication needs to be sent through a messenger or emissary, who we choose to deliver it, matters. Faithfulness and reliability are vital qualities, knowing that communications are critical in all human relationships, business endeavors, and social contact interactions. With a fool, who disdains God, as messenger, would be a disaster. It could create havoc when a wrong message is delivered or a message is wrongly delivered.

Choosing a fool as courier, amputates the feet, which signifies that your message won't be delivered at all. It ends up hurting and destroying the intent of your message. Like in our present day messaging tools, great caution needs to be employed. Careless use of wrong conveyors could be like cutting off your feet… or drinking in damage… injury… hurt… destruction.

On a deeper look, in Christ being His redeemed possession by grace through faith, we ourselves are emissaries. We ought not as fools. We are to deliver the message of hope and life. Let's be reminded, “Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” (2 Corinthians 5:20-21 ESV)

Proverbs 26:4-5 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“Answer not a fool according to his folly, Lest thou also be like unto him. Answer a fool according to his folly, Lest he be wise in his own conceit.” (Proverbs 26:4-5 KJV)

This passage tells of twofold danger for engaging with a fool: You will either become a fool or you make the fool look wise. We are given these scenarios with warnings, when not to respond and when to take a stand and face up to a fool or stay away.

Firstly, there are times better let a fool's foolery pass. When it has no damage on others, let it go. This warns us not to answer a fool, so he only makes a fool of himself and only leads to his own ruin. When you do respond, there could be two fools doing foolery and rushing hand in hand towards destruction.

Secondly, there are times that we may have to take a stand and face up against foolishness when implication is existentially deep and serious. Fools must be engaged not on his foolish terms. He must be stopped! But, if it is impossible, as always it is, we are to stay away from the path of fools. We are to turn them over to the mighty hands of God.

In all scenarios, we are to be grounded and guided by God's Word always, as His children by grace through faith in Christ Jesus. With promptings from the Holy Spirit who is with and in us, we are imperatively instructed to: “Stay away from a fool, for you will not find knowledge on their lips.” (Proverbs 14:7 ESV).

Proverbs 26:3 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“A whip for the horse, a bridle for the ass, And a rod for the fool's back.” (Proverbs 26:3 KJV)

Fools are unteachable. Hence, they are fools. They are set to their ways of living and thinking (or thoughtless ways, as the case may be). Trying to correct, rebuke or train them, will be met with laughter and scorn. They are rooted in their habits and need a harsh deterrence to stop or redirect them. As a whip is needed for a horse and bridle for an ass, the rod needs to be applied on the backs of fools indeed, this passage says..

A foolish person could be brilliant in the natural sphere of the world. He may be a professor in a premier worldly university, an inventor, a scientist, a famed artist, a poet, a powerful politician. Yes, he may have the wisdom of the world. But, often people who are considered wise in the physical dimension are foolish in the spiritual realm. Scriptures declare: "For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God (1 Corinthians 3:19)." They have neither, knowledge of, nor fear of God who created them. They deny and reject that truth. They choose to be a fragment of an accidental explosion.

They are likened to a dumb animal in the spiritual realm, as this passage reveals. So, as God’s children of grace by faith in Christ Jesus, we are warned not to be one of them! Righteous in His eyes (Romans 5:1), we are to reflect and take hold on these Words of our Creator and Designer: “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you. Be not like a horse or a mule, without understanding, which must be curbed with bit and bridle, or it will not stay near you. Many are the sorrows of the wicked, but steadfast love surrounds the one who trusts in the Lord. Be glad in the Lord, and rejoice, O righteous, and shout for joy, all you upright in heart!” (Psalm 32:8-11 ESV)

Proverbs 26:2 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“As the bird by wandering, as the swallow by flying, So the curse causeless shall not come.” (Proverbs 26:2 KJV)

Using the analogy of flying bird and swallow, the causeless curse of the wicked wanders and hovers aimlessly, but harmless. It flies away. This assures we have nothing to fear. It won't come near our home. We are secured. It is written: “If you make the Lord your refuge, if you make the Most High your shelter, no evil will conquer you; no plague will come near your home.”(Psalms 91:9-10 NLT)

As Children of God by grace, through faith in Christ Jesus, we are redeemed, even from the curse of the law, the more so from causeless curse of evil. We are blessed! We are protected, shielded by His grace through faith. Scriptures declare: “Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree”— so that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we might receive the promised Spirit through faith.” (Galatians 3:12-14 ESV)

Proverbs 26:1 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“As snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, So honour is not seemly for a fool.” (Proverbs 26:1 KJV)

In the normal course of seasons, a snow in summer would be a very illogical phenomenon. For agrarian societies, rain in harvest is catastrophic to their livelihood. It would be an unwelcome weather scenario. Hence, every farmer is carefully watching the skies to be alert should anything unusual is about to happen. When signs of rain appear, while the crops are still in the field, the community rushes in to help one another to bring the harvest in the barn, or else their crops would be totally lost.

That's how damaging and tragic it is to give honor to fools, this passage warns, knowing that fools say in their heart "there is no God." But, sadly nowadays, we see fools given the highest honor of teaching our kids in this present day and age, especially in so-called "premier places of learning". We see them trashing those who teach God's ways and values. And, yes they worm into positions of authority and power. Also, in our work places and in every facets of life, we see fools given the "honor" of leadership positions. What a tragedy!

Well, we are IN the world with its warped system and ways. But, thanks to our Lord Jesus Christ, as we receive His Lordship in our life, we have the option not to be OF the world. We have a choice that even as we are here sojourning, we can live set apart from the foolishness of it. We are to put in the place of honor things of God, not of fools. In Christ Jesus by grace through faith in Him, we are called to live honorably in this pagan world. It is written: “Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.” (1 Peter 2:12 NIV)

And I say, AMEN!

Proverbs 25:28 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“He that hath no rule over his own spirit Is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.” (Proverbs 25:28 KJV)

Here is described a short-fused man who just lets the handle fly, swiftly. He is one whose character flaw makes him a slave to his emotions and feelings. No self-control and unable to rule over his inner being, he is likened to a broken city, fully exposed to its adversaries.

This analogy of a city without walls signifies absence of protection and security. It is akin to our present day internet without a 'firewall' to ward off malwares and viruses that dominate the cyber space. That's the state of being a man without self-control. He is totally exposed to the dangers of the world. Like a hacked network, He is a broken man!

Hence, this is a call for us to be strongly fortified by yielding and surrendering to God, through faith in Christ Jesus our Lord, by His grace. In Him, we have a shield being Abraham's seed and heirs according to the promise (Galatians 3:29). We receive the promised protection God declared to Abraham: “After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision: “Fear not, Abram, I am your shield; your reward shall be very great.”” (Genesis 15:1 ESV)

And I say, AMEN!

Proverbs 25:27 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“It is not good to eat much honey: So for men to search their own glory is not glory.” (Proverbs 25:27 KJV)

Glory seeking is what this illustration about. Yes, this is about pursuit of the valued commodities of the world - fame, prestige, power and wealth. And, here is a person seeking to make a big splash of it. He or she is one who seeks any kind of advance, promotion, or advantage that would draw attention to self. It is likened to eating too much honey. It makes you sick.

Anyone, when not standing on right footing, to some degree desires these worldly staples. This passage cautions to look in our hearts and reevaluate our values. We are to keep tabs on it to ensure we are not 'eating too much honey' - so full of ourselves. We look to the TRUE glory from above. Let God's Word keep us in-check. Lord Jesus said: “How can you believe since you accept glory from one another but do not seek the glory that comes from the only God?”(John 5:44 NIV)

A truly honorable person doesn’t SEEK honor from men and the world. Rather, he or she just simply lives an honorable life. He or she is guided by the Word of the Lord. “For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.” (Luke 14:11 NLT)

As children of God in Christ by faith, we are to be always mindful to operate outside the world's WIFI signal. And, have this rooted in our hearts: “Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.” (Philippians 2:3-8 ESV)

And I say, AMEN!
