Proverbs 17:24 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

“Wisdom is in the sight of him who has understanding, But the eyes of a fool are on the ends of the earth.” (Proverbs 17:24 NKJV)

This passage is reminding that we must not lose sight of wisdom. Be not like a fool whose eyes are wandering blankly everywhere as far as the horizons and yonder learning nothing useful to navigate through life. Wisdom is an easy catch for one who understands. But for a fool, lady wisdom is elusive, though she's just right under his nose.

Foolhardiness is a choice. It doesn't just happen. A person just doesn't step into it and be a fool in an instant. It is a result of a long process of wrong decisions and actions, coupled by bad choices of characters to hang out with and unsavory environment to be in. It starts with brazen rejection of God and His Word. A person without God and direction of His Word is like a ship without a rudder tossed by the wind wherever way it blows. Without God and His Word a person plainly walks in the dark, not seeing his path and where he is going.

A person who rejects God and His Word is without help to set him in the right trajectory to the higher calling and destiny God has predestined him to be - that is to be in His pleasure and purpose. It is written - “Even before the world was made, God had already chosen us to be his through our union with Christ, so that we would be holy and without fault before him. Because of his love God had already decided that through Jesus Christ he would make us his children—this was his pleasure and purpose.” (Ephesians 1:4-5 GNT)

The reason why a fool couldn't see wisdom? “The fool says in his heart, “there is no God.” (Psalms 53:1a).” But, he and all of us do need God in this life by accepting the Lordship of Jesus in our heart. Only then a person can take a good grasp of wisdom, as the psalmist declares: “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all those who practice it have a good understanding. His praise endures forever!” (Psalm 111:10 ESV)

Proverbs 17:23 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

“A wicked man accepts a bribe behind the back To pervert the ways of justice.” (Proverbs 17:23 NKJV)

This is another passage that tells the reality of corruption existing in this defiled world. It is a picture of two unprincipled characters passing payoffs in secret fashion to pervert the execution of justice. When things like these are done there is always a victim trampled upon and treated unjustly.

These are enemies of God and His people. God is a God of righteousness and justice. So, when some desire to pervert justice, they will find themselves to be enemies of God. We need not fight them eye for an eye. We'll leave them all to God! It is written, He assures -“Have I not kept this in reserve and sealed it in my vaults? It is mine to avenge; I will repay. In due time their foot will slip; their day of disaster is near and their doom rushes upon them.” (Deuteronomy 32:34-35 NIV)

Therefore we are to rest in the know, that although we may be served with injustice by a corrupt system here on this fallen earth, there will be a day when God will judge ALL according to His righteous standard.

As children of God by faith in Christ Jesus, righteous in His eyes (Romans 5:11), we are to stay, where we are, under the shadow of His grace despite of the world. His promise is this - “Blessed are they who observe justice, who do righteousness at all times!” (Psalm 106:3 ESV)

Proverbs 17:22 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

“A merry heart does good, like medicine, But a broken spirit dries the bones.” (Proverbs 17:22 NKJV)

The Reader’s Digest is commendable and wise to run in their monthly magazine the section - 'Laughter, the Best Medicine.' And, indeed they delivered it monthly to their readers’ heart. Laughter is rooted in a merry heart. And, this passage affirms that "a merry heart does good, like medicine." Modern medical studies confirm this fact of God's Word, taught by Solomon around 3000 years ago - those who laugh and live life with gladness by faith in Christ, live longer!

A merry heart or broken spirit is a choice! This is not a result of fate, genetics or health. Though, it impacts fate, genetics and health to a significant degree. And, this is not a result of circumstances. Any cheerful person can choose to be happy in the Lord in times of difficulties and every circumstances. But, an awful person can ruin a wonderful event in a whim. You can indeed have a continual feast through life, if you have a joyful heart, this passage puts us in the know. But, a person with a negative attitude can always find something wrong to mourn and worry in everything, every day. He carries brokenness and dead bones like zombies.

As adopted children of God by faith in Jesus, we are called to choose and live a life of joy. His word is prompting us to: “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!” (Philippians 4:4 NIV)

His word further counsels:
".....Don’t be dejected and sad, for the joy of the Lord is your strength!” (Nehemiah 8:10 NLT)

Proverbs 17:21 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

“To have a fool for a child brings grief; there is no joy for the parent of a godless fool.” (Proverbs 17:21 NIV)

This passage tells of the painful reality no one would dream of having, that disgraceful and troublesome children can suck the life out of the one who brought them to life. It brings continuous tears to a hurting heart. It is a disaster that can crush parents to the core of their marrow and soul.

Having a foolish son or daughter is a terrible tragedy. The pain dealt by a godless child to a parent is horribly deep. God's Words reveal - fools lead a godless living. A fool says in his heart there is no God (Psalms 14:1). The reason God reminds every parent, who are redeemed by the blood of Jesus Christ through faith, to have the preeminent authority of His holy and written Word in their home.

The Lord gave a very important command, which every imperfect and loving parent should do the best they can to observe. Yes, they can only do their best through grace by faith in Jesus! That is within the bounds of, what they can do and know how to, where they are in their intimacy with God at a momentary stage in life. Every parent should be able to declare from their heart: We did our best! Short it may be to expectations, but we did our best!

Parents are to hold tight of this reminder. It is written, God commanded - “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.” (Deuteronomy 6:5-9 ESV)

Proverbs 17:20 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

“He who has a deceitful heart finds no good, And he who has a perverse tongue falls into evil.” (Proverbs 17:20 NKJV)

Lord Jesus said: “The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks (Luke 6:45 ESV)." So, it all springs from the heart what the mouth speaks. A heart bursting with evil intentions works in concert with a perverse tongue that double-talks, which leads to double-trouble.

This passage tells us that the heart of the matter is the matter of the heart. The Lord is prompting, by the warning of this passage, to fill our hearts with the treasures of His living Words. His Words spare us from falling into evil and keep us rested in grace and truth through faith in Christ Jesus. There is power in His Words spoken through our lips. And, what we speak stems from the words we treasure in our hearts that ought to come from the mouth of God. Words that give us life (Matthew 4:4).

The Psalmist declares these truths of God's holy and written Word. “How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word. I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. Praise be to you, Lord; teach me your decrees. With my lips I recount all the laws that come from your mouth. I rejoice in following your statutes as one rejoices in great riches. I meditate on your precepts and consider your ways. I delight in your decrees; I will not neglect your word.” (Psalms 119:9-16 NIV)

Proverbs 17:19 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

“He who loves transgression loves strife, And he who exalts his gate seeks destruction.” (Proverbs 17:19 NKJV)

Here's another warning against arrogance and godlessness, specially those who reject the saving grace of Jesus. Self-exaltation ends in humiliation like those magicians who opposed Moses (Moses was a Christ-like foreshadow) at the court of Pharaoh in Egypt. Like the destruction of those rebellious Israelites who coaxed Aaron into worship of the golden calf (Exodus 32). And, like those who challenged God's authority through Moses (Numbers 16). Apostle Paul referred them as Jannes and Jambres in his letter to Timothy.

Without the Lordship of Christ, there is only life of sinfulness and tumult, like the kind of environment in these days. The days we are in, is what Apostle Paul warned in his letter to Timothy. It is written: “You should know this, Timothy, that in the last days there will be very difficult times. For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred. They will be unloving and unforgiving; they will slander others and have no self-control. They will be cruel and hate what is good. They will betray their friends, be reckless, be puffed up with pride, and love pleasure rather than God. They will act religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly. Stay away from people like that! They are the kind who work their way into people’s homes and win the confidence of vulnerable women who are burdened with the guilt of sin and controlled by various desires. (Such women are forever following new teachings, but they are never able to understand the truth.) These teachers oppose the truth just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses. They have depraved minds and a counterfeit faith. But they won’t get away with this for long. Someday everyone will recognize what fools they are, just as with Jannes and Jambres.” (2 Timothy 3:1-9 NLT)

All those who challenged Moses were swallowed in the gate of destruction, as it is written: "So they and all that belonged to them went down alive into Sheol, and the earth closed over them, and they perished from the midst of the assembly." (Numbers 16:33 ESV)

Proverbs 17:18 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

“A man devoid of understanding shakes hands in a pledge, And becomes surety for his friend.” (Proverbs 17:18 NKJV)

We are warned to never sign a blank check for anyone. This passage says, only a dunce does it. We are called to be generous and wise, not vulnerable and dumb. All are called not to be selfish, but to give. That is to give generously and cheerfully. God loves a cheerful giver. But, we are to give to those who are in need, not to satisfy their wants and greed. We are to remember the poor, not the lazy. About the lazy, the Lord taught this in one of His parables for us to reflect on: “Then the man who had received one bag of gold came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed. So I was afraid and went out and hid your gold in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.’ “His master replied, ‘You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed? Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest. “‘So take the bag of gold from him and give it to the one who has ten bags. For whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them. And throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

In the book of Acts, Apostle Paul said: “And I have been a constant example of how you can help those in need by working hard. You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive." (Acts of the Apostles 20:35 NLT)

And, our generosity ought to be prompted by the Holy Spirit. Not by ulterior motives. Not driven by desire for applause of men, but for God's glory. “Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. As it is written: “They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor; their righteousness endures forever.” Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness.” (2 Corinthians 9:6-10 NIV)

Proverbs 17:17 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

“A friend loves at all times, And a brother is born for adversity.” (Proverbs 17:17 NKJV)

The Lord is giving a hint how to identify who a true friend is and how to check one’s faithfulness in friendship to another. This passage reveals that closeness in the truest sense is bound by love that stands strong in season and out of season. It's a love that weathers the test of time and defies storms brought about by the changing climate even in a deep-seated relational bond.

This also affirms that a true brother or sister is one who is birthed out of and for adversity. One who is made ready right there for and when a shoulder, to cry and lean on, is needed.

This friend, this brother, we find only in the person of Yeshua, our Lord and Redeemer Jesus Christ, and, in them who has Jesus the Lord of their lives. We place our faith in Jesus the first born of many brethren (Romans 8:29b). He is the only One who laid His life for us all. "There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends (John 15:13)." In Him, as we receive His Lordship, He declares - “No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you.” (John 15:15 NKJV)

And, to those who respond to do the work of God, and "believe in the one He has sent (John 6:29b)", He made this pronouncement - “And he answered them, saying, Who is my mother, or my brethren? And he looked round about on them which sat about him, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren! For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother.” (Mark 3:33-35 KJV)

Proverbs 17:16 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says.......

“Why is there in the hand of a fool the purchase price of wisdom, Since he has no heart for it?” (Proverbs 17:16 NKJV)

The passage asks this rhetorical question to reveal that a fool doesn't need resources to acquire wisdom. He is not interested! What does he need it for, indeed?

A fool is of course someone who is unwise, lacks sense, and lacks judgement. Fools, they don’t want to learn the truth for right living. They laugh at and turn their eyes away from the truth that can set them free from their bondage of sinfulness. Fools think they are wise in their own eyes (Proverbs 12:15). They resist to take in wisdom and advice which ultimately lead to eternal downfall. They suppress the truth of God's Word by their self-righteousness. About them, the psalmist says: “How great are your works, O Lord! Your thoughts are very deep! The stupid man cannot know; the fool cannot understand this: that though the wicked sprout like grass and all evildoers flourish, they are doomed to destruction forever;” (Psalm 92:5-7 ESV)

The holy Scripture keeps people from being foolish. But sadly as fools, they despise the Word of God. They say in their heart 'there is no God (Psalms 14:1)!" IF ONLY fools can recognize their opportunity - humble, come to the throne of grace of Jesus, receive His Lordship, and seek wisdom - they have in their hands the price to have it. Fools should be a wise person's optic of dissuasion from becoming one. Fools' behaviors are very unsightly. Hence, as children of God - believers in Jesus are imperatively urged - “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.” (James 1:5-6 NIV)

Proverbs 17:15 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

“He who justifies the wicked, and he who condemns the just, Both of them alike are an abomination to the Lord.” (Proverbs 17:15 NKJV)

Such a timely passage to reflect on! We are in such a dire time of lawlessness where living justly is reviled and work of wickedness is celebrated. Slothfulness is rewarded and diligence is penalized. The devious standards of the world - masked by insidious political correctness and myriad of warp ideologies, are contagiously infecting the highest seats of power and authority in many countries, easing out the presence of God in formulating decisions affecting the lives of many. America, the supposedly bastion of dispensation of justice and governance, is no more the paragon of Godly values. It used to, but no more in almost every corridors of power... let alone the world.

When God is evicted, wickedness reigns. Criminals now have more rights than do victims have. The innocents are consigned to be murdered in many quarters. And, these are justified at the highest level of ungodly authorities. Criminals are killed in the act of crime, yet lifted up as heroes. This, everyone must remember that seeming victories of evil and false advantage of those who reject God do not change the reality and truth that there is a time coming for reckoning.

This text should serve as a wake up stir for all, most specially the professed 'Christians', to truly act with discernment, and resist against these atrocities abominable to the Lord. Be guided by the Spirit of God in all things to be done. Put God first place in every aspects of living. Let Yeshua, Jesus Christ our Lord, be sovereign in life. By His grace through faith in Him, take the stand and be counted with the true people of God! Abhor such behaviors that are repulsive to Him. Neutrality and passivity are not of God. It is rejection of Jesus who came for all to be with Him in heavenly realm! His Word reminds - “Everyone who acknowledges me publicly here on earth, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. But everyone who denies me here on earth, I will also deny before my Father in heaven.” (Matthew 10:32-33 NLT)

Proverbs 17:14 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

“Starting a quarrel is like breaching a dam; so drop the matter before a dispute breaks out.” (Proverbs 17:14 NIV)

Using the analogy of a dam (imagine one breaking up), this passage is reminding that, if a tiny crack is made in the concrete wall of a dam or dike, seeping water does not stay a small drip, but it quickly eats away at the opening and violently escapes in a rushing torrent. In the same way, a fight will erupt quickly, if it is not ended at the very early start.

A drip, drip, drip of nags and swipes of complaints and criticisms make a crack in every relationship. Like a dam, it must be dealt with and repaired to stop it right there to avoid breaking into a torrential deluge of devastating confrontation. Nasty comments and murmurings to one another between parties in a relationship must be stopped before it explodes into a big fight where regrettable consequential damage could ensue. It has to be dealt with right in the base of the heart where anger may be developing. Replace that resentment with wholesome thoughts. Step back, turn around and come to the throne of grace of our Savior Yeshua, Christ Jesus - the Prince of Peace. We, His redeemed, are warned - “And “don’t sin by letting anger control you.” Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry, for anger gives a foothold to the devil.” (Ephesians 4:26-27 NLT)

So, rather, let us abide by the refreshing power of God's Word. Let the promptings of the Holy Spirit empower us to restrain emotions we can't avoid but pick up in our daily exposure to the harsh terrains of this world. Here's Apostle Paul's counsel what we should do: “And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me—everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you.” (Philippians 4:8-9 NLT)

Proverbs 17:13 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

“Whoever rewards evil for good, Evil will not depart from his house.” (Proverbs 17:13 NKJV)

The worst atrocity in humanity is when someone pays back evil unto a person doing good to him. Like what's happening rampantly in the world today. We even casually hear people in positions of power and influence calling evil good and good evil. But, here's the bad news for those who are doing it. This passage says that as a consequence, evil will be haunting them and their house all through their time on this earth and to eternity. The Scriptures warn: "Woe to those who call evil good and good evil," (Isaiah 5:20a NIV)

This is a serious pop-up alert for us, His children by faith in Christ Jesus. God's holy and written Words tell us that we are to bless others within our proximity, notwithstanding what and/or who they are. We are to repay good for good. We are to do good to everyone, in Christ (Galatians 6:10). We are to bless not just, but most specially those who bless us, as well as, those who are against us! Yes, our enemies who curse us (Luke 6:28)! We are to bless those who persecute us (Romans 12:14)!

We are saved by the sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ, in the midst of our sins and rebellious state. He died to save even those who crucified Him. He died for all - both enemies and friends of God (Romans 5:10)!

As God's children by faith in Jesus, we are to leave evil to Him. He will take care of them. His Words, revealed through Paul, instruct us - “Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord. On the contrary: “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” (Romans 12:17-21 NIV)

Proverbs 17:12 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

“Let a man meet a bear robbed of her cubs, Rather than a fool in his folly.” (Proverbs 17:12 NKJV)

This passage tells us that it is safer to encounter an angry bear than a charming fool in his seemingly harmless foolery. Yes, a bear can be extremely destructive and fatal. Yet, it can only harm and take the physical body. But, the foolishness of fools can lead to eternal death of one's soul. If ever, but should be avoided as much as possible, better take the confrontation with the bear than cavorting with a nincompoop.

A classic song said it right, “fools rush in where angels fear to tread.” This character rushes in like a ‘femme fatale’ and robs a person's true essence of living. Humanity's core purpose is to fear the Lord! For God will bring every deed into judgement… (Ecclesiastes 12:13-14). Fools' rejection of God puts him in the most dangerous list. Every precious child of God who has been saved by the blood of Jesus by faith, and who are reborn to a new life in Spirit, must avoid and resist him.

Let’s beware! And be it known that the Word of the Lord says- “Only fools say in their hearts, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, and their actions are evil; not one of them does good!” (Psalms 14:1 NLT)

Proverbs 17:11 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

“An evil man seeks only rebellion; Therefore a cruel messenger will be sent against him.” (Proverbs 17:11 NKJV)

This sounds like describing today's rebellious generation. Where, many men and women are seeking every occasion to rebel against God. With their evil intentions they pick just any kind of quarrel they find. They evict God and His holy and written Words out of our seat of governance and halls of justice and learning. They oppose prayers by our public officials and in our public venues and festivities. Claiming they are atheists, yet they can't even articulate what they stand for. Just to show their contempt against God, they promote government mandates to kill babies and destroy the sanctity of marriage between a man and a woman. They shove on the face of God's children legal recognition of same sex relation and brainwash children with evil notion to choose whatever gender they want.

This is God's warning shot! Scripture says their day will come when God sends "a cruel messenger", as He did to the Egyptians when Pharaoh stubbornly rebelled against the Great I Am. The psalmist recalls, as it is written: "He loosed on them his fierce anger— all his fury, rage, and hostility. He dispatched against them a band of destroying angels. He turned his anger against them; he did not spare the Egyptians’ lives but ravaged them with the plague. He killed the oldest son in each Egyptian family, the flower of youth throughout the land of Egypt.” (Psalms 78:49-51 NLT)

But, thanks be to our loving God, He is full of mercy. Sinners can turn around, seek God and humble at the foot of the cross of Jesus, before time runs out. God is calling them and everyone! He forgives, as scriptures declare: "Who is a God like you, who pardons sin and forgives the transgression of the remnant of his inheritance? You do not stay angry forever but delight to show mercy.” (Micah 7:18 NIV)

Proverbs 17:10 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

“Rebuke is more effective for a wise man Than a hundred blows on a fool.” (Proverbs 17:10 NKJV)

God is giving a simple cue for a self-check to see what are we? Wise? Or, Fool? He is prompting us to honestly ask ourselves, are we pliant lambs or stubborn mules? These are useful questions to ask, to enable us to undertake a re-direction in our journey in this life. Or, if need be, to have a re-boot to download the renewing Spirit of the Word of God.

He is reminding us to get hold of wisdom, not foolery. Have a sheep-like attitude - hear and follow our Shepherd's voice. Listen to reproofs of God's Words and abide in it by His grace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. It is vital! It equips us to withstand the storms of life.

In this world, storms come. It is not a matter of if. It is a matter of when! It is written Lord Jesus said: “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock. But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.” (Matthew 7:24-27 NLT)

Proverbs 17:9 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

“He who covers a transgression seeks love, But he who repeats a matter separates friends.” (Proverbs 17:9 NKJV)

This passage is not encouraging a cover-up, but is rather giving a lesson of faithfulness and loyalty. A person who lets go and moves on. Forgiveness! It is one done so out of love. The kind of love that binds husband and wife, binds a family - a love that bonds a true friendship. It is that act of endearment that refrains from resurrecting the rotten carcasses of the past. It is one that chooses to forgive and sets the past to oblivion. It is one who buries it in the vast sea of forgetfulness. It is the kind of forgiveness which releases the one we love from having to constantly bear the burden and guilt of their mistakes.

This tells us that the one who "repeats a matter" drives a wedge in the intimacy of friendship. The word "repeats" reveals that the issue has been divulged and discussed, but is closed and done over with - and ought not be mentioned anymore. It won't be repeated! Forgiveness has already granted! Bringing it up again reveals, there was no forgiveness. It, indeed, drives a wedge!

Unforgiveness is a lethal poison that kills even the strongest thriving intimate relationship. It creates an environment of noisy nags, opening wounds of faults again and again. A true friend - the one who seeks closeness with a friend - forgives and moves on. He leaves the sin behind and chooses to remember it no longer. This, too, is the core recipe for a lasting marriage.

Yes, we are called to forgive and forget! The Lord Jesus Christ forgave us. And, we ought, as well! When we receive His Lordship by faith, He gave this assurance: “For I will be merciful toward their iniquities, and I will remember their sins no more.” (Hebrews 8:12 ESV)

Proverbs 17:8 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

“A present is a precious stone in the eyes of its possessor; Wherever he turns, he prospers.” (Proverbs 17:8 NKJV)

This states the fact that in this world gifts or bribes are effective either way - for good or for evil, depending on the motives of the parties thereto.

Philip of Macedonia, the father of Alexander the Great, said, “There is no fortress so strong, but it might be taken, if an ass laden with gold was brought to the gate.”

The giver of a gift believes his reward moves to promote his purpose. The receiver of a gift, viewing it as a sweet favor, is willing to quickly do what was desired of him. The lesson is – bribes gives a semblance of working, but for evil end!

It seemingly worked with Judas, but for evil and led to his destruction. The Jews paid him thirty pieces of silver to betray and turn over the Lord Jesus Christ into their hands (Matt 26:14-16).

Gifts worked for good with Jacob to soften his brother Esau’s angry heart, with well-spaced gifts (Gen 32:13-21).

Bribes and gifts could come in many forms. One could compromise truth for a tip, a steak, a sale, a bonus, or a promotion? So, better we beware of gifts! We ought to look beyond and see the motives! If ever a gift is shoved on us, as children of God by faith in Christ Jesus, with thanksgiving we are to use gifts for the glory of God!!!

There is one best gift we must not neglect, which we must believe and receive! God’s gift of His only Son is given to us, out of His love as ransom for our sins, so we can have life eternal (John 3:16). The Lord Jesus Christ is our gift of grace. “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God [that is, His remarkable, overwhelming gift of grace to believers] is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23 AMP)

Proverbs 17:7 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

“Excellent speech is not fitting for a fool, Much less are lying lips to a prince.” (Proverbs 17:7 NASB2020)

This is a subtle reminder to walk the talk and talk the walk, not by self-effort but by total dependence in Yeshua, our Lord Jesus Christ!

It reveals the incongruity of an ungodly fool that talks with seeming eloquence like a philosopher; or, of one born and schooled with refinements of a prince for royal leadership but un-fitly speaks lies. When an ungodly fool pretends to speak wise things, even the unwise would have difficulty believing it. In fact, for the Godly wise, the wisest thing to do is reject it. The Lord Jesus, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, when the devil tempted Him with deceptive and warp quotes from God's Words, He cast the devil away. The quotes sounded good. The devil said to Jesus: “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down. For it is written: “ ‘He will command his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’” Jesus answered him, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’” Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.” Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’” (Matthew 4:6-10 NIV)

As Lord Jesus did, we - being children of God by faith in Jesus, we are expected and instructed to resist the devil. It is written: “So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come close to God, and God will come close to you...” (James 4:7b-8a NLT)

On the other hand, in Christ Jesus, there is hope for fools of the world, though, like every one of us. There is nothing impossible with God! The saving grace of Jesus is limitless and sets no bounds. All there is to do is humble before the Lord and receive His gift of salvation. God has use for fools who turn around and welcome Jesus in his heart and be born again (John 3:3). It is written: “But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human being might boast in the presence of God. And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption, so that, as it is written, “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.”” (1 Corinthians 1:27-31 ESV)

Proverbs 17:6 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

“Children’s children are the crown of old men, And the glory of children is their father.” (Proverbs 17:6 NKJV)

This short passage covers three generations, four family roles and two reciprocal relationships to reflect on. Implied in these wonderful words are noble and loving families, a lofty goal. Also implied are wise parents with prudent foresight and obedient children appreciating them. Such an awe-inspiring plot!

This concise proverb has deep wisdom. Grandchild, grandfather, child and father are the four family roles portrayed. Three generations are represented. Grandfathers and their grandchildren and fathers and their children are two reciprocal relationships. So are granddaughters and grandmothers, mothers and daughters. Let each consider his/her multiple roles in realizing the blessing and lesson of this proverb.

This passage features a Godly family model. But in reality, with the worldly culture we are in, not all grandchildren are the crown of their grandfathers – a jeweled symbol of honor and reward. Many grandchildren are a disgrace and shame to their grandfathers. Not all fathers are the glory of their children – an object of great delight and adoring respect. Many children do not delight and respect their fathers this way: many fathers do not deserve such. Only virtuous children and grandchildren bring deserving parents and grandparents joy. Only wise and Godly grandfathers consider virtuous grandchildren a blessing.

In the world we're in, this is a timely point for reflection, where we are and where do we go from here. Time is short and getting shorter. Apostle Paul calls upon all parents and children, who trust in the Lord Jesus Christ, with these words: “Children, obey your parents because you belong to the Lord, for this is the right thing to do. “Honor your father and mother.” This is the first commandment with a promise: If you honor your father and mother, “things will go well for you, and you will have a long life on the earth.” Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger by the way you treat them. Rather, bring them up with the discipline and instruction that comes from the Lord.” (Ephesians 6:1-4 NLT)

And I say, AMEN!

Proverbs 17:5 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

“He who mocks the poor reproaches his Maker; He who is glad at calamity will not go unpunished.” (Proverbs 17:5 NKJV)

Poverty and calamity are NOT of and NOT from God! These are curses of this world as consequence of Adam's fall from the grace of God. Before Adam surrendered dominion of the earth to Satan, he lived in paradise. There was no toil! Only lavish provision of grace, the best they could have! But, when he and Eve listened to the Serpent's lie and ate the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, curse befall upon the earth. This results for everyone to have its share of calamity and toil in this earthly realm. Poverty became an option for anyone who chooses to be poor. Poverty is the natural result of choosing to live dependent only on self-effort and in the cursed ground of this world.

But, we have a better option! Be it known that the curse is reversed by the shed blood of Jesus. Blessings abound when we opt to depend on Him and abide in the Kingdom of God. It is written: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”(2 Corinthians 5:17 NIV) “Yes, Adam’s one sin brings condemnation for everyone, but Christ’s one act of righteousness brings a right relationship with God and new life for everyone.”(Romans 5:18 NLT)

Calamity and disaster happen. And, there could be times of lack. But, in Christ no one goes through it alone. Those who are viewed poor and going through calamity must not be mocked but loved. And, they should be made aware of the good news of the Kingdom of God. And, they ought to be in the know that everyone is welcomed to enter this realm of blessings through faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. The Lord Jesus promised that in our lack or plenty and in our struggle or comfort, He is with us always, as it is written: “So don’t worry, because I am with you. Don’t be afraid, because I am your God. I will make you strong and will help you; I will support you with my right hand that saves you.” (Isaiah 41:10 NCV)

Proverbs 17:4 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

“An evildoer gives heed to false lips; A liar listens eagerly to a spiteful tongue.” (Proverbs 17:4 NKJV)

He features notable characteristics of a person living in the ways of evil. He is one whose life follows the cadence ordered by deceitful lips. He is one whose ears enthusiastically lean to malicious tongue that breeds un-remorseful deceits and hostile songs.

That is not the way we are designed to behave. As believers in Jesus, we have been washed of the stain of lies. Now living under the rhythm of grace, our walks are to be in concert with love, in grace and truth. Our ears should incline only to the voice of the Holy Spirit and the Lord’s holy and written Words. We are to grow strong in The Lord!(Ephesians 6:10)

We are to grow and mature in the knowledge of the truth of God’s holy and written Word. We need it in our walk in this treacherous forest of a world under the control of evil (1 John 5:19). Referring to those who have a personal relationship with Jesus by faith, Apostle Paul entreats us with this plea: "No prolonged infancies among us, please. We’ll not tolerate babes in the woods, small children who are an easy mark for impostors. God wants us to grow up, to know the whole truth and tell it in love—like Christ in everything. We take our lead from Christ, who is the source of everything we do. He keeps us in step with each other. His very breath and blood flow through us, nourishing us so that we will grow up healthy in God, robust in love.” (Ephesians 4:14-16 MSG)

Proverbs 17:3 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

“The refining pot is for silver and the furnace for gold, But the Lord tests the hearts.” (Proverbs 17:3 NKJV)

This passage alerts us that God is refining us to manifest the best of who we are. Psalms 7:9b says: "For the righteous God tests the hearts and minds.”

His purpose is not to discourage and fail us, but to bring us to a place of favors and power beyond blessed, according to our doings of total reliance in our Lord Jesus Christ by faith. He says: “I, the LORD, search the heart, I test the mind, even to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his doings.” (Jeremiah 17:10 NKJV)

As with silver and gold being refined in fiery pot and furnace, our refining process can be in a form of affliction designed to burn and cleanse the baggage of dross in our lives. It always brings out the best of us, as we trust in the winnowing flame of His love. His Words say: “Behold, I have refined you, but not as silver; I have tested you in the furnace of affliction.” (Isaiah 48:10 NKJV)

“Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution” (2 Timothy 3:12). But, we have this blessed assurance and promise: “Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice insofar as you share Christ’s sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed.” (1 Peter 4:12-13 ESV)

Proverbs 17:2 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

“A wise servant will rule over a son who causes shame, And will share an inheritance among the brothers.” (Proverbs 17:2 NKJV)

This passage is pointing to the heirs of the promised physical son of Sarah - the rebellious Jews, and the gentile people, who were once servants to sin. Because of the Jews' shameful rejection of Jesus, when we-the gentile nation, in wisdom accepted the Lord Jesus Christ by faith, we become sharers with the inheritance of Sarah's son of promise-Isaac. By grace, we are counted among the heirs of Abraham in Christ Jesus. “And now that you belong to Christ, you are the true children of Abraham. You are his heirs, and God’s promise to Abraham belongs to you.”(Galatians 3:29 NLT) God promised Abraham: “I will make you a great nation; I will bless you And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing.” (Genesis 12:2 NKJV) Such amazing blessings to be sharer with!

Apostle Paul affirms this revelation in his epistle to the gentile church of Ephesus. And, he wrote: “Surely you have heard about the administration of God’s grace that was given to me for you, that is, the mystery made known to me by revelation, as I have already written briefly. In reading this, then, you will be able to understand my insight into the mystery of Christ, which was not made known to people in other generations as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to God’s holy apostles and prophets. This mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, members together of one body, and sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus.” (Ephesians 3:2-6 NIV)

Yes, in grace, the moment we receive the Lordship of Jesus by faith and gone through the process of rebirth in the spirit, Paul further affirms: "The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him." (Romans 8:16-17 ESV)

Proverbs 17:1 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

“Better is a dry morsel with quietness, Than a house full of feasting with strife.” (Proverbs 17:1 NKJV)

He reminds us that our home should be kept a habitat of tranquility, not an arena for fracas. God's design is for it to be a sanctuary of peace - a place to escape from the troubles of the world. A home like that is not necessarily borne out of abundance in material things of the world and its vanities of extravagant social feasting and partying. One may have those, but amidst contention and strife. Especially, when Jesus - the Prince of Peace is left out knocking at the door. He is calling: "Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.” (Revelation 3:20 NIV)

Yes, if we allow Him in, He will dine with us. In the abundance of His grace by faith in Him, our home will be filled with prayers of thanksgiving and worship. Not bickering and discord. Indeed, even with a popcorn for dinner - His peace reigns in our home, as Apostle Paul exhorts with these words: "And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:7 ESV)

Proverbs 16:33 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says …

“The lot is cast into the lap, But its every decision is from the Lord.” (Proverbs 16:33 NKJV)

What we learn from this text is that God is truly sovereign over all things - all decisions are from Him. If we will look to Him in the midst of the choices that we make - we can know He is the one who guides us. This gives us much comfort, more peace than to think we are at the mercy of the whims of others or in a random world that only works in happenstance in every activity under the sun. We can live in this world guided and directed by the hand of the Omnipotent, Omniscient, Sovereign God, Who knows exactly what He is doing - and where He is going. That is, if only we choose to dwell in the Kingdom of God which is here, at hand (Mathew 4:17).

Yes, if only we abide by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, His mighty hand guides us through His great plans for us. Every decision we make has His mark on it. Nothing is for luck. It is always a conscious decision prompted by the Holy Spirit who is in us. We will step into His higher calling for our life - Not mediocre! Not ‘Que Sera Sera'!

So, let’s have our steps then be ordered by the Lord! He gives us this assurance: “For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.” (Romans 8:29-30 NIV)

Proverbs 16:32 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

“He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, And he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city.” (Proverbs 16:32 NKJV)

He describes the qualities of who truly is mighty or feeble. Sable rattling and instantaneous outburst of anger are the camouflage of a frightened weakling. In weakness, like the namby-pamby giant named Goliath, blurts, shoots and spurts uncontrollably with libelous words which if only he knew in hindsight, he would have regretted and took it back before his empty roars landed in the ears of its target. He was defying the army of the living God. His hollow growl had no bearing. He was beaten and beheaded by a kid named David.(1 Samuel 17:50-53)

Yes, angry words could hurt worse than sword, it is said. It slices the heart, soul and spirit of a person. Lord Jesus tersely warns of it in His sermon on the mount when He said: “You’re familiar with the command to the ancients, ‘Do not murder.’ I’m telling you that anyone who is so much as angry with a brother or sister is guilty of murder. Carelessly call a brother ‘idiot!’ and you just might find yourself hauled into court. Thoughtlessly yell ‘stupid!’ at a sister and you are on the brink of hellfire. The simple moral fact is that words kill." (Matthew 5:21, 22 MSG)

In contrast, the mighty in spirit, exudes an aura of meekness by grace through faith in Christ his Savior. If ever he gets angry, he never lets the sun sets in his anger. His recovery time only takes for a moment. In the face of challenge, he looks up. He calls upon his Lord for help. He searches God's words written in his heart. He meditates and follows the cue of the Holy Spirit to speak words of compassion, grace and wisdom in tactful decorum. In grace he wins!

That's a mighty man of God! He is one who rules his spirit to build up, and not destroy. He takes himself to task as Apostle Paul exhorts with these words: "Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.” (Ephesians 4:29 ESV)

Proverbs 16:31 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

“The silver-haired head is a crown of glory, If it is found in the way of righteousness.” (Proverbs 16:31 NKJV)

He gives a reassuring proclamation that growing old in the Lord Jesus Christ is a very rewarding journey. What you see as gray hair in the natural, is a crown of glory in the spiritual. That is, of course, if the life we live is a life of righteousness by grace through faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.

In The Lord growing old is an honorable experience of continuous renewing of the mind by God's holy and written Word. It is a walk with God day by day. That is allowing Him to take us from where we are to where He wants us to be.

As our outward shade is painted to gray by the tender brush of time and harsh realities of the world, our spiritual being is being filled and fine tuned with the spot light of wisdom from the Word of life. Then God calls us to the glorious light of His presence and declare, as it is written: "Arise, shine; for thy light is come and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee." (Isaiah 60:1 KJV)

And I say, AMEN!

Proverbs 16:29-30 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

“A violent man entices his neighbor, And leads him in a way that is not good. He winks his eye to devise perverse things; He purses his lips and brings about evil.” (Proverbs 16:29, 30 NKJV)

He alerts us of another type of person to stay clear from, with whom we should not have any semblance at all nor have anything to do with. Such person has diverse tricks and mischiefs under his sleeves, which he uses with skillful subtlety for insinuations to provoke evil conflicts and discords. The careless and undiscerning neighbor, who walks not by the way of The Lord, often fall into their trap and trickery. Without the guidance of the Holy Spirit, while starved from neglect of regular intake of God's holy and written Word - even those who profess as religious Christians, will be enticed to relent to their evil ways. For that reason, Lord Jesus gives this warning to His disciples and to all who are saved and reborn by faith in Him: "Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” (Matthew 26:41 ESV)

It is God's desire for us to be strengthened by His word, resting in His grace. And, He gives His assurance to settle us firmly where we are. By His presence, He shields us! It is written: “But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one.” (2 Thessalonians 3:3 NKJV)
