Proverbs 29:19 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“A servant will not be corrected by words: For though he understand he will not answer.” (Proverbs 29:19 KJV)

This plainly warns that in a master and servant relationship, or employer and employees, or king and subjects, one should not assume that because proper corrections, instructions and orders are given, those are followed to the letter. A follow through is a must, most of the time. That's the unfortunate frailty nature of man, apart from the saving grace of Christ Jesus. With Adam's sin-tainted DNA flowing in his vein, man is as stubborn as a mule! (Psalm 32:9).

But, being a new creation as children of God by faith in Christ Jesus, in whatever roles we are in, we have to be conscious always that we all have tasks to accomplish. One word of instruction must be enough to do what's needed to be done. We have to have focus and readiness to act at once when told. We are to be always mindful that nothing else matters: Not comparison with others; Not to strive being better than others; Or, even to aim the impossible. What matters is the task in front of us, giving it the best we can, not by our self-effort, but by the promptings of the Holy Spirit, totally dependent in God’s grace by faith in Christ Jesus our Lord.

When we receive the saving grace of our Lord Jesus Christ by faith, we are born again and become a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17). The DNA of righteousness in our Lord Jesus Christ is now flowing in our vein (Romans 5:17-19).

We are therefore to abide in God's grace, and continuously correcting one another by His living Words of guidance and reproof. Reflecting on Apostle Paul's exhortation, we are called to be attentive and ready for action all the time. As he charged Timothy, we are too, with these words: “I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching.” (2 Timothy 4:1-2 ESV)

Proverbs 29:18 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says ...

“Where there is no vision, the people perish: But he that keepeth the law, happy is he.” (Proverbs 29:18 KJV)

When this passage talks about vision, this is not talking about earthly dreams or goals or plans for the future. This is about God's communication and revelation to man, His commands, His precepts and His holy and written Words, which He directly gave through the prophets to His people Israel and to all who believe in Jesus. In the absence of revelation from God, people are left unguided and without direction. Yes, people are left hungry, thirsty and spiritually ill-nourished. The Lord warns in His Words: “The days are coming,” declares the Sovereign Lord, “when I will send a famine through the land— not a famine of food or a thirst for water, but a famine of hearing the words of the Lord. People will stagger from sea to sea and wander from north to east, searching for the word of the Lord, but they will not find it. “In that day “the lovely young women and strong young men will faint because of thirst.”(Amos 8:11-13 NIV)

In this post-resurrection dispensation of grace, in Christ Jesus our Lord by faith in Him, we are heirs of Abraham (Galatians 3:29). We are blessed with access to His holy and written Word - our vision for the now and for eternity. That is the object of this provocative reflection of the Book of Proverbs, challenging true seekers of truth to shift through the wealth of God's Words. As it is written: “But he said, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!” (Luke 11:28 ESV)

Yes indeed, happy and ...“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.” (Psalm 1:1-3 ESV)

Proverbs 29:17 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says...

“Correct thy son, and he shall give thee rest; Yea, he shall give delight unto thy soul.”  (Proverbs 29:17 KJV)

Father and son mentoring relationship is what this text gives insight on. The need for fathers to teach and discipline their sons and daughters is heavenly ordained.

I remember having had to receive disciplinary pains which I thought went beyond spanking. It felt tough and, of course, deeply hurt. I hated it. Later on, in the now, looking back and watching how the lives of the unruly boys I grew up with in my neighborhood turned out, I realize the benefits of those painful lessons of corrections. Those fatherly reproofs are reflections of God's love. When God chastises us, it assures we are truly His son, as we are to our earthly fathers when they administer reproofs. It affirms we are accepted, as these words remind: “And have you completely forgotten this word of encouragement that addresses you as a father addresses his son? It says, “My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline, and do not lose heart when he rebukes you, because the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and he chastens everyone he accepts as his son.””(Hebrews 12:5-6 NIV). Our Heavenly Father is the mirror our earthly father to reflect on.

Every son (and daughter, of course) should expect and welcome his/her father's discipline. It brings rest to the father and delights to the soul of the son or daughter. And, it is just for a season of discomfort, which results a lifetime of righteous living when we receive and abide in it. “For they disciplined us for a short time as it seemed best to them, but he disciplines us for our good, that we may share his holiness. For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.” (Hebrews 12:10-11 ESV)

Proverbs 29:16 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says...

“When the wicked are multiplied, transgression increaseth: But the righteous shall see their fall.” (Proverbs 29:16 KJV)

This obviously reminds that the existence of more wickedness reveals the existence of more wicked people. In a democracy, where both the wicked and the righteous vote, when more wicked people are elected into office, it is an indication that there are more wicked electors. Except of course when, another wicked act is perpetrated by the same wicked people who have access to cheat on the system and its tools. Increase in crimes is a litmus test of increase in the census of criminal elements. Immorality, criminality and utter evil abound in a place where ungodly leadership abounds or when few ungodly elements challenging a Godly leadership are empowered by loud and ungodly microphones. Reminiscent of the wickedness of Sodom and Gomorrah in Genesis 13:13.

But, there is good news! They'll never last, like Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 19:24-25). For the righteous whose faith is in the Lord Jesus Christ will see them fall, this passage declares. Hence, we are just to remain steadfast in trusting Him our Savior and rest under the shadow of His grace. His Words of promise hearten us to - “Wait for the Lord and keep his way, and he will exalt you to inherit the land; you will look on when the wicked are cut off. I have seen a wicked, ruthless man, spreading himself like a green laurel tree. But he passed away, and behold, he was no more; though I sought him, he could not be found. Mark the blameless and behold the upright, for there is a future for the man of peace. But transgressors shall be altogether destroyed; the future of the wicked shall be cut off.” (Psalm 37:34-38 ESV)

Proverbs 29:15 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says...

“The rod and reproof give wisdom: But a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame.” (Proverbs 29:15 KJV)

Need wisdom? The rod of correction is what this passage reminds. This is a picture of the guiding tool used by shepherds to lead their flock on the right path, into their grazing field. That's what the rod is for - to guide and to direct into the future we are designed and destined to be. It is not for harm, but for help and for blessing. It guides us, especially when we are navigating in a new and/or uncharted strange ground. The rod of correction is useful to give us wisdom. It helps us to be trained by those who've been ahead of us, so we arrive in our future. Where we are in the now has been the result of either adherence or neglect of the correction we have been given. That is for sure! Henceforth, we need wisdom of the rod and reproof to lead us to our future.

Yeah, utter disregard of correction or the lack of it, as a child left on his own deprived of reproof - brings ruin to his life which gives shame and grief to his mother who bore him in her womb. It is of utmost gravity not to let these scriptures go by unheeded. In praise and with pleasure, by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, we are to rest in this promise: “All your children shall be taught by the Lord, and great shall be the peace of your children. In righteousness you shall be established; you shall be far from oppression, for you shall not fear; and from terror, for it shall not come near you.” (Isaiah 54:13-14 ESV)

Proverbs 29:14 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says...

“The king that faithfully judgeth the poor, His throne shall be established forever.” (Proverbs 29:14 KJV)

Equal justice is what this passage is calling for a ruler to faithfully execute. When a king casts fair justice on the curve, he will find himself on the curve, too. Cockiness in power brings those in power to powerlessness and ultimate demise. That's what happened to King Ahab and his wife Jezebel, who murdered Naboth one of their subjects to possess his land. God pronounced judgment upon him. It is written: “Then the word of the Lord came to Elijah the Tishbite: “Go down to meet Ahab king of Israel, who rules in Samaria. He is now in Naboth’s vineyard, where he has gone to take possession of it. Say to him, ‘This is what the Lord says: Have you not murdered a man and seized his property?’ Then say to him, ‘This is what the Lord says: In the place where dogs licked up Naboth’s blood, dogs will lick up your blood—yes, yours!’ ”(1 Kings 21:17-19 NIV)

That is how the world's kingdoms go as it rules with injustice, especially on the weak and the innocent. But, the kingdom of the Son of God rules with justice and compassion. His kingdom, where we belong the moment we receive the Lordship of Christ Jesus through grace by faith, is established forever. It is written: “But of the Son he says, “Your throne, O God, is forever and ever, the scepter of uprightness is the scepter of your kingdom. You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness beyond your companions.” (Hebrews 1:8-9 ESV)

Proverbs 29:13 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says...

“The poor man and the oppressor have this in common: The Lord gives light to the eyes of both.” (Proverbs 29:13 NKJV)

This passage is a veiled scolding on the oppressor. God is watching! These two hugely contrasting characters have one commonality. Though, they seem to live in the opposite sides of town, on occasions they cross each other’s path in business and other affairs. They are on the same planet! Yes, there are disparities between the oppressor and his poor victim, established by the world. But, they have one thing in common, like the needy and the rich, master and servant, ruler and subject, God made them all. As we are, they: the persecuted and the persecutor; the just and the unjust; got their life and light from above. Even the enemies of God, they too are God’s creation, but gone astray and rebellious. They all, as we do, will stand before our Creator and will give account to Him one day on things they and we did under the sun (Romans 14:12).

So, being the redeemed of the Lord by grace through faith in Christ Jesus, we ought not be an oppressor of anyone. And in times of oppression, as we are still in the world, we are to take lessons and comfort from the promises of God. Lord Jesus assures us with these words from His Sermon on the Mount: “God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs. God blesses those who mourn, for they will be comforted. God blesses those who are humble, for they will inherit the whole earth. God blesses those who hunger and thirst for justice, for they will be satisfied." (Matthew 5:3-6 NLT)

And, He exhorts further with these reminders: “But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.” (Matthew 5:44-45 ESV)

Proverbs 29:12 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says...

“If a ruler hearken to lies, All his servants are wicked.” (Proverbs 29:12 KJV)

He reminds the obvious, that dishonest leadership is a breeding ground for corruption. In some way of saying, it only needs one rotten apple to make all the apples in a basket rotten. So, it is in a group, in a community, in an organization or in a nation. The more so when the rot sits at the top, as this passage declares. And, this sounds familiar, real time.

A ruler holding dominion and power over others, whose authority and action impacts the lives of many, when he listens to lies reveals that he himself is a cheat and a liar. If he isn't, he could be a blank and dense person unfit to lead. When lies can get past through him, listened to and acted upon, every work of darkness and wickedness will pass through, as well. And, when he and his cohorts enforce those evil ways to rule, presenting it as good and righteous, God pronounced these words on them: “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter. Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes and clever in their own sight. In that day they will roar over it like the roaring of the sea. And if one looks at the land, there is only darkness and distress; even the sun will be darkened by clouds.” (Isaiah 5:20-21, 30 NIV)

For all children of the light through grace by faith in Christ Jesus, God exhorts us with these words: “Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. For it is shameful even to speak of the things that they do in secret. But when anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible, for anything that becomes visible is light. Therefore it says, “Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.”” (Ephesians 5:11-14 ESV)

Proverbs 29:11 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says...

“A fool uttereth all his mind: But a wise man keepeth it in till afterwards.” (Proverbs 29:11 KJV)

He is giving a pop up alert and reminder of the fool's lack of restraint and the patience of the wise. It is said that the reason a person gets angry (with intent to harm) is because he cannot control something he desperately wants to control. In an abnormal level, that's the nature of a fool. He explodes and spills the beans, so to speak, in a flash. He exhibits folly and shame by responding and reacting to a matter even before fully hearing it.

In contrast, a wise person patiently holds back. He has restraint. He guards his emotions with discretion and prudence, by God’s grace and with the help of the Holy Spirit. As children of God by faith in Christ Jesus, that's what we are sanctified to behave. We are to reflect and abide on the promptings of His Words. It is written: “My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires. Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.” (James 1:19-21 NIV)

Proverbs 29:10 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says...

“The bloodthirsty hate the upright: But the just seek his soul.” (Proverbs 29:10 KJV)

He reminds and warns us of the killing machines rampaging in the nations of the world today that hate the upright so bad. They hate those who stand to save lives of the innocent and the helpless. Yes, the upright whose trust is in the Lord Jesus Christ are hated, everywhere! We hear their sanctuaries of worships burned. Many are martyred for their faith, as we speak in real time. Yet, in spite of being hated, they continue to even seek and to save the souls of those bloodthirsty haters.

The Lord Jesus warned about these haters, in His Words to the disciples: “If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. Remember what I told you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also. They will treat you this way because of my name, for they do not know the one who sent me. If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not be guilty of sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin.”(John 15:18-22 NIV)

That's the reality all of us who are redeemed by the blood of Jesus have to face while in this world. As children of God by grace through faith in Christ Jesus, His holy and written Words exhort us to 'stand firm in faith, act like men' (1 Corinthians 16:13). "Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might" (Ephesians 6:10 ESV). We are to remain steadfast and continue spreading the Good News of the Lord's gospel of grace and truth: “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost” (Luke 19:10 ESV). And For our comfort, He promised: “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.” (John 14:3 ESV)

Proverbs 29:9 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says...

“If a wise man contendeth with a foolish man, Whether he rage or laugh, there is no rest.” (Proverbs 29:9 KJV)

We are shown a scene of a wise man arguing with a fool. Not a good sight! It's a lost case for the wise man. One probably thinks, No! It should be a slam dunk for the wise! What can a fool do? He is devoid of wisdom! And, the wise is full of knowledge. He had the wisdom to live right. He honors God and His word.

Yes, the fool is nowhere near the discernment level of the wise. The Scriptures described these of a fool, in comparison to the wise: “Words from the mouth of the wise are gracious, but fools are consumed by their own lips. At the beginning their words are folly; at the end they are wicked madness— and fools multiply words. No one knows what is coming— who can tell someone else what will happen after them? The toil of fools wearies them; they do not know the way to town.” (Ecclesiastes 10:12-15 NIV)

Hence, this warns every child of God by grace through faith in Christ against handling a fool. The scene the passage states, is just an 'if a wise man contends'. A wise person won't even think of doing it. It's a losing proposition. Doing so, one ends up faced with anger or mockery. There is no rest debating a fool. It doesn't end. Teaching him is also discouraged, especially with treasures of God's holy Words. He'll trample on it. Referring to the fools, Lord Jesus cautioned this in the beatitudes: “Do not give dogs what is holy, and do not throw your pearls before pigs, lest they trample them underfoot and turn to attack you.” (Matthew 7:6 ESV)

Proverbs 29:8 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says...

“Scornful men bring a city into a snare: But wise men turn away wrath.” (Proverbs 29:8 KJV)

He is nudging us that the scorners of the world are setting the nations on the snare and kept it blazing on fire of wrath. Until those arsonists in the political, economic, social and media demagoguery are locked up where they belong, this world continues to burn. And, there will be nothing left but ashes of regrets. Those blabbers are inflaming people's emotions and minds using the power they have gotten from the same people they are turning against. Foremost, they are turning against God and His ways. Then, they behave as if they are god and make themselves as if they are the provider and taker - even taking innocent lives. But, they will have their day on the day of reckoning, as Scriptures say - “Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment,” (Hebrews 9:27 NIV).

The wise in the land, whose faith is in the Lord Jesus Christ, seeks to turn away wrath and douse the fire with grace and love. The Lord Jesus declared these words upon them: “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.” (Matthew 5:9 NIV). We must remember this, no matter how bad things look around us, in Christ we overcome by His grace. It is written: “For every child of God defeats this evil world and we achieve this victory through our faith. And who can win this battle against the world? Only those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God.” (1 John 5:4-5 NLT).

Proverbs 29:7 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says...

“The righteous considereth the cause of the poor: But the wicked regardeth not to know it.” (Proverbs 29:7 KJV)

He gives another cue to correct the world's way of helping the poor, which is without any intent of knowing the real cause of it. The wrong perception or perhaps the devious way of the world, often assumes that the solution for poverty is money or material things or handouts. The lack of material things and money are just the symptoms, not the cause. But, the wicked doesn't care about the cause. They may even create the cause to make the poor poorer. Handouts are the wicked way of 'helping'. It makes them dependent and helpless. Keeping them where they are, make them easy to control and be used as pawns for power - like what's happening in many nations of the world.

The righteous one who truly cares, whose faith is in Christ Jesus and depend in His grace, will not only consider the root cause of a person's need, but will seek to do something about it. They don't just give temporary relief. In many a times there may need to re-educate or teach new skills and to exert efforts of work, like what a saying says - "give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime."

So, as children of God in Christ Jesus, we have these words of Apostle Paul to take to heart: “In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’(Acts 20:35 NIV). We therefore give knowledge and wisdom from the Words that proceed from the mouth of God! So, they shall know that the saving grace of our Lord Jesus Christ is more than enough. He supplies all our needs according to the riches of His glory in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19).

Whenever needed, all the time, lessons of truth must be shared to those who need it, to alleviate the needy, like this exhortation to the Ephesians: “Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need.” (Ephesians 4:28 ESV)

Proverbs 29:6 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says...

“In the transgression of an evil man there is a snare: But the righteous doth sing and rejoice.” (Proverbs 29:6 KJV)

This passage is another admonition from the holy Word of God about contrasting lifestyles of devious and righteous living. Evil, who opposes God, does things to transgress anything that pertains to godly standards. In so doing, he sets up a snare upon himself. He is chained to the yoke of sin. He is headed to die. Scriptures say: “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23 NIV)

The righteous, on the other hand, has the gift of eternal life. He fully understands that he is in the state of being put right with God by grace through faith in Christ Jesus. He is righteous not because of him, but because of Him who died on the cross in his place. The finished work of Jesus on the cross, which he received by grace the moment he accepted His lordship in his life, made him righteous before God. That is by virtue of personal intimate relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, not by religion.

That’s what and who we are in Christ Jesus, the moment we are born again in spirit by grace through faith. We are set in a place of praise and rejoicing. Hence, Apostle Paul enjoined us, to: “Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:4-7 ESV)

Proverbs 29:5 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says...

“A man that flattereth his neighbour Spreadeth a net for his feet.” (Proverbs 29:5 KJV)

Flattery is a compliment with an ulterior motive we ought to be in the know, lest we step on its trap. Wherever and whenever compliments are given, need to be alert and watchful. Discernment is important to have. When compliment crosses the line to flattery (and it's a fine line we should keep in mind), we ensure our internal alarm bells ring. And, we should be wary! We just step on slippery grounds!

Flatteries are fashioned to put you off-guard and vulnerable. It's one of the devil's gadgets in his toolbox. His minions use it as their usual device of choice. So, we ought not be hapless target. And, we should not be one used as minions, as well, flattering people here and there.

As children of God in Christ Jesus through grace by faith, we are to interact and speak with authenticity. Every accolade and expression of gratitude we give must be forthright. It must not be made to dazzle or trip people off, but to give honor to our Heavenly Father. We must not expect hurrahs, too. We do things with promptings from the Holy Spirit in the rhythm of God's grace. It is therefore fitting for us to reflect on Apostle Paul's exhortation: “For our appeal does not spring from error or impurity or any attempt to deceive, but just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, not to please man, but to please God who tests our hearts. For we never came with words of flattery, as you know, nor with a pretext for greed—God is witness. Nor did we seek glory from people, whether from you or from others, though we could have made demands as apostles of Christ.” (1 Thessalonians 2:3-6 ESV)

Proverbs 29:4 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says...

“The king by judgment establisheth the land: But he that receiveth gifts overthroweth it.” (Proverbs 29:4 KJV

Established or toppled are the consequential contrasts this passage is giving us light of, between a just and a corrupt leadership. Rotten leaders bring their county to ruin. Several such examples whom the world had been awestruck with were: Marcos, Sr and his wife, who reportedly stole around $ 10 billion from the nation's treasury; Suharto of Indonesia ran off with $30 billion; and Mubarak of Egypt had gotten a reported $ 40 billion. They subjected the country and the people they led to dire poverty.

This brings to awareness that fair and just leaders matter to a nation's well being. With Godly justice, the country is raised up to prosper, not run down in misery. The people are blessed and flourishing. Criminals and evil men are locked in, not celebrated like what's happening in our country. In the hands of just leaders, the nation thrives and endures. The land is firmly established with power and strength, undaunted on the face of enemies and all types of evil threats.

Affluence pervades the land when the leadership stands on the rock of God's standard of justice. By faith in Christ Jesus, His grace abounds. The land is secure in the promise of His words: “no weapon that is fashioned against you shall succeed, and you shall refute every tongue that rises against you in judgment. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord and their vindication from me, declares the Lord.”” (Isaiah 54:17 ESV)

Proverbs 29:3 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says...

“Whoso loveth wisdom rejoiceth his father: But he that keepeth company with harlots spendeth his substance.” (Proverbs 29:3 KJV)

He gives two contrasting types of sons to show us a picture of two lifestyles with the impact they make. One son loves wisdom. Hence, he is wise, duh! The other son seeks loose living with unsavory characters. And, it leads him to riotous living, like that prodigal son who gave his father pains and longings, as he went to a far country. He wasted the resources he extorted from his father. Thence: “After he had spent everything, there was a severe famine in that whole country, and he began to be in need” (Luke 15:14 NIV). It does not fail, ‘company with harlots spent his substance.’ The outcome is conspicuously familiar.

While a child who loves wisdom and follows the cues of God's Word is a father's delight knowing that the child he loves is in a safe place. Scripture says: “Wisdom and money can get you “almost” anything, but ONLY WISDOM CAN SAVE YOUR LIFE”(Ecclesiastes 7:12 NLT). That's a delightful reassuring promise. Not just to a parent, but to a wise child, as well, most importantly.

So, as the beloved of the Lord who rest in His grace by faith in Christ, it is always good to be circumspect in our walk in life. Guided by His Words and led by the Holy Spirit, Apostle Paul exhorts us to: “Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.” (Ephesians 5:15-17 ESV)

Proverbs 29:2 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says...

“When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: But when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.” (Proverbs 29:2 KJV)

With this very timely reminder, the Lord continues to drive in the necessity of a righteous governing authority. Yes, one whose leaders have been made right in God’s sight by faith in Christ Jesus (Romans 5:1). The people right now are in a state of mourning, as they bear the character and nature of the nation's present leadership. When wickedness rules, the social fabric of the nation is broken and battered. Evil is pronounced good, and what is right in God's eyes is condemned wrong. We watch innocents' lives casually taken and God's design for family unit dismantled. The hearts of God's children in Christ Jesus are in lament. We all, who are members in the body of Christ by grace along with many in the world, mourn!

It is time for the people of God to stand strong on the solid ground of righteous standards by faith in Christ Jesus. The trend needs to be reversed, so rejoicing can reign. Healing must come and be manifest by restoring God's grace and sovereignty in our lives and nation. We need to repent, seek and come to God in Christ Jesus by faith. His Words remind with assurance: “if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14 ESV)

Proverbs 29:1 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says...

“He, that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, Shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.” (Proverbs 29:1 KJV)

This describes a person that doesn't learn. One who is an antithesis of who is wise to learn from others, from father and mother, from teachers, friends, authority figures, or even adversaries and rivals. They are warned of a swift unredeemable destruction. But, those who are wise, listen to divine counsel. They intentionally watch and observe pointers for how to live God's way. And, they learn from every available hallowed sources, most especially God's holy and written Words.

We are made aware, what the symptoms are of a fool, to ensure we avoid having it. The act of defiance and stiff-necked attitude are postures for imminent fall. This passage is an alert of a lesson that needs to be learned from 'Humpty Dumpty', who had a great fall and destroyed beyond repair.

Rebuke and correction are the natural expressions by those who care and love us. It saves us from the unpleasantness of this world's trappings and snares. We are precious, and the Lord loves us so much that He gave His life so we can have life abundantly (John 10:20). We should be receptive to reproach! We are the Lord's beloved sons and daughters, in Christ's grace by faith in Him. We keep neck loosened! Receive and learn! His holy and written Words remind: “And have you forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as sons? “My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor be weary when reproved by him. For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives.”” (Hebrews 12:5-6 ESV)

Proverbs 28:28 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says...

“When the wicked rise, men hide themselves: But when they perish, the righteous increase.” (Proverbs 28:28 KJV)

This is a pop up alert, warning us about ungodly people rising to positions of power. Unfortunately, it is already happening in many sectors of our present world and societies where so called leaders who dishonor the God of all creations are already in positions of authority. They impose authoritarian rule upon the citizens they are supposed to serve. They push people who follow God's righteous standards to literally hide due to political persecutions. Some have their voices clamped down and drowned by the foul noises of their cohorts who hold the loudest microphone. Many are threatened and cancelled. Such a scary reality, and it could get worse if uncorrected. God's order of things is a must to be restored in our standard of morality. “For the scepter of wickedness shall not rest On the land allotted to the righteous,” (Psalms 125:3a NKJV)

The importance of righteousness to reign, in our individual life, in our home and in our nation, is of exigency. And, it is only through the Lordship of Jesus in every person's life, righteousness can reign. Only then harmony and peace can ascend, the righteous flourishes and make the nation be blessed. In Christ Jesus, dependent on His grace by faith, Apostle Paul exhorts us with these words: “First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.” (1 Timothy 2:1-2 ESV)

Proverbs 28:27 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says...

“He that giveth unto the poor shall not lack: But he that hideth his eyes shall have many a curse.” (Proverbs 28:27 KJV)

Extend an open hand or turn a blind eye. Those are the choices we are nudged by this passage. Generosity brings abundance. Selfishness overloads with curses. This warns that willful indifference carries its own dispensation of serious and ugly ramifications. When one closes his eyes to the plight of the deprived, both in the physical and spiritual in his proximity, he loses the capacity to bear fruits. His ground is cursed due to his apathy. He'd be like that fig tree cursed by the Lord Jesus Christ on the road to Jerusalem: “Seeing a fig tree by the road, he went up to it but found nothing on it except leaves. Then he said to it, “May you never bear fruit again!” Immediately the tree withered.” (Matthew 21:19 NIV). You don't want that 'many a curse'!

Being a child of the Most High God by grace through faith in Christ Jesus in a personal intimate relationship, not by religion, we are called to: “Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality” (Romans 12:11-13 NIV).

When we are generous, specially to those who have no means to pay back, we have this promise in the Word of our Lord Jesus Christ: “He said also to the man who had invited him, “When you give a dinner or a banquet, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or rich neighbors, lest they also invite you in return and you be repaid. But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you. For you will be repaid at the resurrection of the just.”” (Luke 14:12-14 ESV)

Proverbs 28:26 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says...

“He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool: But whoso walketh wisely, he shall be delivered.” (Proverbs 28:26 KJV)

The dangerous counsel of the world says: "trust your heart" and “follow your heart”. These sound and feel good. But, these counsels are extremely injurious. Our heart is untrustworthy, as it is. It is tainted by the DNA of Adam that we inherited, which was infected with sin by his fall in the garden. The Scriptures affirm: “Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually” (Genesis 6:5 NKJV). "The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure...”(Jeremiah 17:9a NIV). So, trusting our heart without the cleansing by the blood of Jesus is foolish. Decisions made in that state of heart is gravely disastrous and perilous.

This passage points us to our best option - a safe way that delivers us from the harmful traps of the enemy and the world. That is to walk wisely, by first: entering into salvation by God's grace through faith in Christ Jesus, so our heart will be cleansed and be restored in trustworthiness. Then: we can walk wisely by the leading of the Holy Spirit and by the counsel of His Words. We let His Words speak to us. We are sustained by the constant hearing, meditating and reflecting His words. Yes, we are delivered, as Lord Jesus declares: “Already you are clean because of the word that I have spoken to you.” (John 15:3 ESV)

Proverbs 28:25 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says...

“He that is of a proud heart stirreth up strife: But he that putteth his trust in the LORD shall be made fat.” (Proverbs 28:25 KJV)

This passage speaks of a person who always puts himself ahead and above others. One who says: “Me first; I am the best.” This person is trouble! And in contrast, there is one who puts his trust in the Lord. He is made fat! Yes, he prospers! While a greedy and self-centered personality engages in discord. No rest for him! Hence, to be in a place of accord, greed and pride are to be cast out. Apostle Paul exhorts: “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.”(Philippians 2:3-4 NIV)

We are to put our trust in the Lord. Humble before Him. Get rid of pride! It is the root of unbelief and causes strife. With our faith in Christ Jesus, life is filled with blessings. In His grace, there is peace even in times of trouble, as He gave this assurance: “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”” (John 16:33 ESV)

Proverbs 28:24 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says...

“Whoso robbeth his father or his mother, and saith, It is no transgression; The same is the companion of a destroyer.” (Proverbs 28:24 KJV)

At first read, this passage sounds over the top to casually point out that children rob their parents and say it's okay. However, yes in this degenerate world this is literally happening, as many are raised in the culture of godlessness and vices. The world, saturated with the atmosphere and messages of darkness, is made a cesspool of evil influence. Outside the home, children are brainwashed to defy God and their parents. Hence, many parents are emptied out by their corrupted children, of their resources and honor. Many children wasted themselves in all forms of unhealthy and immoral habits. They even corrupt those who are nurtured in the love of God and who happens to be in their contact and vicinity. Many indeed are made companions of destruction, as this passage exposed.

We are all children and parents, at some point in our lives. No one set foot on this planet without having been cradled in the loving embrace and the comfort of a mother's womb. That's where God formed us by His mighty hands. We are all fearfully and wonderfully made to be God's masterpiece in their bosom. As children, we are to give honor to our parents who raised us the best they can. Yes, they're not perfect. Yes, they're flawed. That's why they and we all need a Savior from our flaws, imperfections and brokenness - to some extent. We need Jesus to reign in our lives. We do that by receiving the Lordship of Christ Jesus and enter into His grace by faith,

In honoring them - our parents, we honor Him - our Creator. It is not for our parents' benefit, but ours. God pronounced His blessings to abound on us, as He charges us with these words, through Apostle Paul: “Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise; that it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.” (Ephesians 6:1-3 KJV)

Proverbs 28:23 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says...

“He that rebuketh a man afterwards shall find more favour Than he that flattereth with the tongue.” (Proverbs 28:23 KJV)

In the truest essence of authentic relationship, rebuke is far better than flattery for both the corrector and the corrected. The corrector will later be appreciated by the corrected realizing that the rebuke rescued him or her from destruction. Flattery leads nowhere, but ruin and shame for both the giver and the receiver.

We are to speak with our loved ones, friends and everyone in our proximity in the truth of God's Word and in the love of Jesus, though at times truth gives a bit of pain. Pain of correction by God's Word won't last. It is just for a moment, as it opens the door of favors and blessings for the best days yet to come. Flattery may feel good for a moment. But, it could lead to a lifetime of pain. It could even poise you for the danger of eternal damnation.

Hence, in Christ Jesus having Lordship in our life and restored by His grace, we are members of His body. Apostle Paul exhorts us with these words: “You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body.” (Ephesians 4:22-25 NIV)

Proverbs 28:22 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says...

“He that hasteth to be rich hath an evil eye, And considereth not that poverty shall come upon him.” (Proverbs 28:22 KJV)

He is warning against chasing in haste and with greed the riches of this world. A person like that has an evil eye, God's holy and written Word reveals. For one as such, dearth awaits, as this passage declares: “But people who long to be rich fall into temptation and are trapped by many foolish and harmful desires that plunge them into ruin and destruction.”(1 Timothy 6:9 NLT)

Instead, we are to set our eyes and minds on matters that last, as this exhortation calls us to: “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.”(Colossians 3:2 NIV)

We can secure the truly rich possession by accepting the Lord Jesus Christ to reign in our heart. By His grace through faith in Him, He is our source for everything we need -physical and spiritual. It is written: “For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich.” (2 Corinthians 8:9 ESV)

Proverbs 28:21 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says...

“To have respect of persons is not good: For for a piece of bread that man will transgress.” (Proverbs 28:21 KJV)

And, in the Amplified Version, this passage says: "To have regard for one person over another and to show favoritism is not good, Because for a piece of bread a man will transgress."(Proverbs 28:21 AMP)

This verse warns that partiality in treating people is ugly and deplorable. Respecting a certain type of person for preconceived opinion, is actually disrespecting a certain type of person for preconceived opinion. Barring exhibited criminal, abusive, offensive and threatening attitudes and behaviors, of whom we must treat with care and with partiality, we are to treat every person equally. This text further says that spineless and prejudicial characters are the kind of people who are willing to compromise integrity for a temporal personal gain.

Our standard of decorum is fairness. This saying would be a good reminder: "Be kind to everyone on the way up; you’ll meet them on the way down."

To all, who are members in the body of Christ by grace through faith in Him, the Scriptures exhort with these words: “My brothers, show no partiality as you hold the faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory. For if a man wearing a gold ring and fine clothing comes into your assembly, and a poor man in shabby clothing also comes in, and if you pay attention to the one who wears the fine clothing and say, “You sit here in a good place,” while you say to the poor man, “You stand over there,” or, “Sit down at my feet,” have you not then made distinctions among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts?” (James 2:1-4 ESV)

Proverbs 28:20 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says...

“A faithful man shall abound with blessings: But he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent.” (Proverbs 28:20 KJV)

Instant gratification drives people to do quick-rich schemes that will not leave them innocent, this passage alludes. A schemer deserves punishment, this passage warns. Curse follows every deceit employed to hasten gain. In time, one who does as such will face serious confrontation with reckoning (Romans 14:12).

A faithful man abounds with blessings! When we receive the saving grace of Jesus by His finished work on the cross in faith, all the resources of heaven that pertain to life and godliness are made available for us (2 Peter 1:3). We are transformed to do something on this planet in sync with the gift we have been given, in cooperation with our Creator. As we do our part faithfully in His grace, guided by His holy and written Words and led by the Holy Spirit, blessings abound in all that we do.

That is what we are assured by the Lord Jesus in His sermon on the Mount, when we pursue God's kingdom first and foremost. Through Him, by having His Lordship in our life, blessings will pursue us and be added unto us! Yes, we have the assurance that when we seek, we will find (Matthew 7:7). Let us therefore seek, as He said: “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33 ESV)

Proverbs 28:19 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“He that tilleth his land shall have plenty of bread: But he that followeth after vain persons shall have poverty enough.” (Proverbs 28:19 KJV)

Vanity is being promoted intensely in worldly cultures and media. Even governments coax the common man with lotteries to be able to tax the poor and the stupid gambler. The rich and the famous are celebrated as if they represent everyone. There is hardly 1 of them out of a million of the population. They flaunt extravagant living, to make you follow them. They intend to deceive everyone that hard work for honest harvest takes you nowhere. Little did you know, following them you are headed to fall and end up chasing after the wind.

God's system of sowing and reaping by 'tilling the land'- that is cultivating in God's way the gift, skill and talent we are blessed with where we are. It is the sure way to have plenty of 'bread' on our table both physical and spiritual. Sadly, the world is headed the wrong way. Hence, as God's children by grace, with the guidance of God's Word by faith in Christ Jesus, we are to stay grounded and ready in season and out season to fulfill our destiny.

We have a mission. Our charge is the same charge Apostle Paul exhorted Timothy: “I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths. As for you, always be sober-minded, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.” (2 Timothy 4:1-5 ESV)

Proverbs 28:18 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“Whoso walketh uprightly shall be saved: But he that is perverse in his ways shall fall at once.” (Proverbs 28:18 KJV)

The Biblical definitions of perverse are: * Literally, turned aside; hence, distorted from the right. * Obstinate in the wrong; disposed to be contrary; stubborn; un-tractable. *Cross; petulant; peevish; disposed to cross and vex.

This passage warns that one walking as such shall fall at once. If anyone is in such a state, this is a nudge to take some baby steps starting with humility to listen and lean open ears to hear words of wisdom and be saved from falling. This is a popup alert to stop being obstinate. Stop the stubbornness and petulance. Come to God! When we come and rest in God's grace by faith in Jesus, we are saved from falling in the abyss of damnation. We are led to walk uprightly by total dependence in Him. Apostle Paul gives this call: “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”(Romans 10:9 NIV)

In Christ Jesus, we can walk by faith, not by sight. We walk in righteousness, not because of who we are, but because of who He is. He is in us and we in Him. “For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age, waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works.” (Titus 2:11-14 ESV)
