Proverbs 20:7 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says…

“The righteous man walks in his integrity; His children are blessed after him.” (Proverbs 20:7 NKJV)

This passage reminds the rewards of walking in the righteous ways of God, guided by His holy and written Word. In the generation that follows, their children will reap and enjoy the blessings of today's life lived with integrity by right believing. For “This righteousness is given by grace through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile,” (Romans 3:22 NIV) These rewards are given in grace, not works (Romans 11:6). Not wages, but gifts by faith credited as righteousness (Romans 4:4)!

When we put our trust and total dependence in God by faith in Christ, He proclaims this reminder and assurance: “Be careful to obey all these words that I command you, that it may go well with you and with your children after you forever, when you do what is good and right in the sight of the Lord your God.” (Deuteronomy 12:28 ESV)

The Lord Jesus affirmed these words of command in His interaction with the crowd that followed Him. “Then they said to him, “What must we do, to be doing the works of God?” Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.”” (John 6:28-29 ESV)

And I say, AMEN!

Proverbs 20:6 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

“Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness: But a faithful man who can find?” (Proverbs 20:6 KJV)

This passage simply says: “Lots of people claim to be loyal and loving, but where on earth can you find one?” (Proverbs 20:6 MSG)

Well, talk is easy and boasting is of no value. Always, when people blow their horn it always is a sign they are not what they say they are. Anyone can craft a resume' in a favorable light. Any politician or schemer can always learn mastery of some kind of spin. Many have developed the fine art of embellishing, especially when put on the spot. Most people even wear make up to look good for optics. That’s the reality of this fallen world!

So, as children of God by grace through faith in Christ Jesus who belong in the Kingdom of God, we are blessed with His Word to remind us day by day. It is good to be good and to do good deeds. But, it should neither be done in self effort to observe the law nor to follow religious doctrine nor to comply political correctness. All the things we do must be done guided by God's holy Words and by the promptings of the Holy Spirit who lives in us. And, if goodness is done, it must not be proclaimed to the world. Lord Jesus rebuked the Pharisees and teachers of the law for doing that (Matthew 23:13-36).

We are reminded directly from the mouth of our Lord Jesus Christ, to be mindful always in what we do. He says - “Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. “So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.” (Matthew 6:1-4 NIV)

And I say, AMEN!

Proverbs 20:5 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

“Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water; But a man of understanding will draw it out.” (Proverbs 20:5 KJV)

Embedded in the deep sanctum of our heart is God's counsel or plan or purpose for our lives. That's the plan that God has established before we were born. Likened with deep water, He sets it in the core of our being when He molded us in our mother's womb. Here's what the Lord's words said to Jeremiah: “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” (Jeremiah 1:5 NIV)

Like Jeremiah (who was appointed by God for a high call before taking his first heartbeat in his mother's womb), we too have a very, very special appointment for a unique and extraordinary mission (like no other) to carry out on this planet. Yes, a spectacular one! Not mediocre! This passage reveals that only by understanding this plan of God for our life can it be drawn out and brought to manifestation.

We need understanding guided by the Spirit of the Lord through His Words to exploit His excellent plan for us. And, the moment we accept the Lordship of Christ Jesus in our life, 
by faith in Him, we have this assurance from His holy and written Word: “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you. Do not be like the horse or the mule, which have no understanding but must be controlled by bit and bridle or they will not come to you. Many are the woes of the wicked, but the Lord’s unfailing love surrounds the one who trusts in him.” (Psalms 32:8-10 NIV)

And I say, AMEN!

Proverbs 20:4 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

“The sluggard will not plow by reason of the cold; Therefore shall he beg in harvest, and have nothing.” (Proverbs 20:4 KJV)

This proverb is a simple declaration of truth. No work, no food. Like it or not, we have a part to do in the system of seed time and harvest that the Lord sets in motion after the flood (Genesis 8:22). And, it involves loosening the soil before planting. It must be made ready at the right timing for spring sowing. So, the cold season is the best time to plow. But sluggards like to slumber. They find the cold a good reason not to plough, and leave their fields untouched. When summer harvest comes, they have nothing to reap. So, as this passage says, they beg!

When we were young growing in the farm, during school vacations, holidays and weekends, we, my brothers and I, used to wake up early day by day. Just as if we're still having school. Before the rainy season comes, we must prepare the fields and have the ground loosened for the seeds. We also helped our neighbors weed their farms when ours were done. It was not anything we eagerly do for fun. We often complained. But, we have to do it. We ate from the produce of those farms. We have no choice. God's word calls those who refuse to work - unless they “want to,” or find it “fulfilling”, sluggards. Refusing to do it foretells an empty stomach.

In frigid regions, farmers have to plow their farms in the fall and winter to have it ready for seedtime and harvest at the right season. And, youngsters have to “plow” their books through the night in today’s world to get an education. They must tend their assigned fields. Only then can both expect a harvest and a graduation. 

As children of God by faith in Jesus, whatever and wherever our fields are, we are expected to work on it. And by His provision of grace, we shall eat! It is written, Apostle Paul gave this reminder to the Thessalonians: “For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: “The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.”” (2 Thessalonians 3:10 NIV)

And I say, AMEN!

Proverbs 20:3 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

"It is honorable for a man to stop striving, Since any fool can start a quarrel." (Proverbs 20:3 NKJV)

It is a man's mark of integrity and honor to avert contention and quarrel, which sadly are the hallmarks of fools. Agitation is their sort of 'kind of thing'. A fool keeps a strife going. He has no intention to stop making trouble. He meddles in everybody else's business. He causes and kindles strife. A fool rushes in every spat. He has no self-restraint. He dives in the fray like a moth diving precisely straight into the flame. Order can turn disorder in an instant when fools arrive. They are a unique kind of species who can't live in peace. Their staple diet is trouble.

But, praises to God for honorable men and women who are full of grace and truth, in Christ Jesus. They, who stop strife, turn their cheeks the other way when affronts are thrown by fools to ignite a fight.

That's how we should be, as believers, saved by the blood of Jesus. We should be working on our salvation in the fullness of the Lord’s grace and truth. As we walk in His grace and His truth, He supplies us with grace in various forms (1 Peter 4:10). By His Spirit who lives in us, He guides us. So, His peace shall reign. Not working it out on our self-effort to do good, but labor to totally depend in grace through faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, scriptures enjoin us with these words: "Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord. See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.” (Hebrews 12:14, 15 NIV)

All these we fulfill, not by 'good works' of religious practices and rituals.  But, according to the declaration of our Lord Jesus Christ, by believing in Him! It is written: "Then they said to him, “What must we do, to be doing the works of God?” Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.”" (John 6:28-19 ESV)

And I say, AMEN!

Proverbs 20:2 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

“The wrath of a king is like the roaring of a lion; Whoever provokes him to anger sins against his own life.” Proverbs 20:2 NKJV

This passage gives the analogy of danger provoking the wrath of a king, which is likened to provoking a roaring or hungry lion. It is a sin against preservation of one's own life. This alludes to worldly kings, during the Bible times. They possess absolute power over common people's lives. Daniel said this about the power God gave king Nebuchadnessar of Babylon - “Because of the high position he gave him, all the nations and peoples of every language dreaded and feared him. Those the king wanted to put to death, he put to death; those he wanted to spare, he spared; those he wanted to promote, he promoted; and those he wanted to humble, he humbled. (Daniel 5:19 NIV)." Yes, they have power. It is unwise to displease them.

That's human king we don't mess with. The more so the King of Kings, the Creator of the universe - the One who can give and take life, He who forms us by the touch of His Mighty hands. We don't want to provoke His wrath and be separated from Him. We are called and given the opportunity to choose life in Christ or be separated from Him for all time when the time for repentance will be long gone. That is when this physical life is over. And, if Christ returns today and you haven’t yet accepted Him, your time is up, too. Receiving Jesus by faith in Him is NOW!

With Christ Jesus accepted and having Lordship in our life, Apostle Paul gives this reassuring reminder: “Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him! For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! Not only is this so, but we also boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.” (Romans 5:9-11 NIV)

And I say, AMEN!

Proverbs 20:1 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

"Wine is a mocker, Strong drink is a brawler, And whoever is led astray by it is not wise." (Proverbs 20:1 NKJV)

He warns the dangers of ingesting habit-forming and health-risk substances. It is called 'spirits' for a reason. It can take over control of one's life. At its worst, it destroys both body and soul of a person. It starts with a 'sip'. Then it leads to 'social drinking'. It steps up to 'drunkenness'. Then, with no warning at all - it sets one up at a place called 'Addiction'. The wise way then, is for me/us to stay clear of its tempting aroma and sphere of influence.

Rather, we come near to God. Let’s ingest the living water and spirit of life - His Words. Form the habit of moment to moment intake of His Words. Then, be 'drunk' by the Spirit of God. It is written: “Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery, instead, be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Ephesians 5:18-20 NIV)

And I say, AMEN!

Proverbs 19:29 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

“Judgments are prepared for scoffers, And beatings for the backs of fools.” (Proverbs 19:29 NKJV)

We are reminded that there are indeed judgments prepared for scoffers. The fact that many people miss, is that judgement is already pronounced on those who scoff at God and His Word. His commandments warn those who ignore Him. And those who indeed ignore Him, there is no lack of reminders that the wicked is already judged - and that those who reject the Lord Jesus Christ, face a terrifying wrath. Every scoffer is warned and knows exactly what awaits him for his scoffing.

We are also reminded that lashes are set handy for the backs of fools. The fool is one who enjoys his follies - rejecting God and His Word. He loves his foolery and has no use for anything that restrains what he wants. He does without thinking any repercussions of what His flesh craves for each moment of the day. The passage says, this person needs flogging on his back. And, worst of all, for scoffers and fools and everyone who reject the way to the Father, only has a place called hell to go to.

So, fools and scoffers beware! You may indulge in your moments of foolishness and scoffing. For your rejection and unbelief in the only begotten Son of God, you certainly have your day of reckoning. Your unbelief condemned you! It is written: “Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.” (John 3:18 ESV)

And I say, AMEN!

Proverbs 19:28 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

“A disreputable witness scorns justice, And the mouth of the wicked devours iniquity.” (Proverbs 19:28 NKJV)

This passage is a pop up alert, so to speak, about a spineless person who does everything to tamper the process of justice. He is a devil's advocate. He espouses for the guilty to cheat judgement and go scot-free. He is not for fair and honest execution of justice, but for one and only purpose - to make a mockery of it. He aims to trample on the victim and extol the guilty.

This is a false and wicked witness whose mouth spreads iniquity. Our present world is full of them, corrupting our every aspect of living. They constantly bombard with projectiles of debauchery. They are present everywhere, especially in seats of power. Many of them holds the loudest microphone. Hence, as children of the Most High God by faith in Jesus, we are placed here in such a time as this to take our stand on the solid ground of truth - aligned with God's holy and written Word. We take refuge under God's throne to abide in His tenets of justice. We are to be the light in such a darkened world. Let's take the stand as witness for righteousness through grace in Christ Jesus!

As children of God by faith in Christ, here's a rhetorical question posed by the psalmist that we should meditate and be rest assured on. It is written: “Can a corrupt throne be allied with you— a throne that brings on misery by its decrees? The wicked band together against the righteous and condemn the innocent to death. But the Lord has become my fortress, and my God the rock in whom I take refuge. He will repay them for their sins and destroy them for their wickedness; the Lord our God will destroy them.” (Psalms 94:20-23 NIV)

And I say, AMEN!

Proverbs 19:26-27 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says…

“He who mistreats his father and chases away his mother Is a son who causes shame and brings reproach. Cease listening to instruction, my son, And you will stray from the words of knowledge.” (Proverbs 19:26-27 NKJV)

With these passages God is warning of the insult and shame disgraceful children can bring to their parents. Parents gave their children lives that flow from the heart of God. They fed, they clothed, and they protected them. The father filled with delight, worked with diligence and built legacies for their future. The mother doted and pampered her children with her loving embrace. And, now the children they love despise them. Such a tremendous pain they have to unfairly bear. Them knowing that such a behavior hinders God's blessing upon their children.

When parents teach their children to honor their parents, it is not for their parents' benefit. It is not to pander their ego. It is for their children to live well and be blessed, as God designs their life to be. We all have parents who nurture us. No one has come out, as yet, from the forest that evolved from ape. We are all formed by the hands of God in our mother's womb. Parents discipline their children so as not to stray from the knowledge of these solid words of truth.

Hence, as children of God by faith in Christ Jesus abiding in His grace, Apostle Paul prompts us with this instruction: “Children, do what your parents tell you. This is only right. “Honor your father and mother” is the first commandment that has a promise attached to it, namely, “so you will live well and have a long life.”” (Ephesians 6:1-3 MSG)

And I say, AMEN!

Proverbs 19:25 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

“Strike a scoffer, and the simple will become wary; Rebuke one who has understanding, and he will discern knowledge.” (Proverbs 19:25 NKJV)

The wisdom of this passage reveals effective approaches to handle three types of characters - the scoffer, the simpleton and the wise.

By making an example of punishing a scorner, not only that his bad mouth is shut off and crooked act is halted, but the naivete who's watching and contemplating to be a scoffer, would be cautioned.

On the other hand, the wise person needs only a rebuke then learns and grows in knowledge. Sadly, it is unfortunate that wise and teachable people are an 'endangered species' in this present age. It is common in this present day discourse and interaction, that many shut their ears and eyes, then run away when they notice God's Words are introduced and spoken. This generation is full of spoiled and rebellious people, lovers of themselves (1 Timothy 3:2) who are raising children to be like them or worse. God's ways of discipline are abhorred - hijacked by worldly ways. Hence, broken society is emerging. In such a time as this, we are placed on the threshold to take the right turn, love Godly discipline - listen and walk on the truth of God's holy and written Word.

As children of God, by faith in Christ Jesus, we are called to be wise and hold on to His legacy of grace. We are reminded, as it is written: “Listen, dear friends, to God’s truth, bend your ears to what I tell you. I’m chewing on the morsel of a proverb; I’ll let you in on the sweet old truths, Stories we heard from our fathers, counsel we learned at our mother’s knee. We’re not keeping this to ourselves, we’re passing it along to the next generation— God’s fame and fortune, the marvelous things he has done.” (Psalm 78:1-4 MSG)

And I say, AMEN!

Proverbs 19:24 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

“A lazy man buries his hand in the bowl, And will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.” (Proverbs 19:24 NKJV)

We are given a comical picture of an extremely lazy man. Like a video clip in pause mode, we see a person whose hand is buried in a bowl of food. He is just hanging unto a scoop in his hand not even eager to lift and shove it in his mouth. With such an enormous grab, this person must have a voracious appetite but not as much desire to work on the food and eat.

This passage is seriously drawing our attention to see how unsavory are the optics of slothfulness. Even worse is its toll on such a man's life. Apostle Paul's exhortation to the Thessalonians would be a good nudge, so as to keep us becoming a sloth. In the physical aspect of living, some muscle and tendon activities are called upon, to fill our stomach. We are to sweat it out to do something and only then, we eat!

Reflecting on the words of counsel to the believers in Thessalonica, would be a good impetus for one who truly rests in grace by faith in Christ Jesus. It is written: “In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, we command you, brothers and sisters, to keep away from every believer who is idle and disruptive and does not live according to the teaching you received from us. For you yourselves know how you ought to follow our example. We were not idle when we were with you, nor did we eat anyone’s food without paying for it. On the contrary, we worked night and day, laboring and toiling so that we would not be a burden to any of you. We did this, not because we do not have the right to such help, but in order to offer ourselves as a model for you to imitate. For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: “The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.” Such people we command and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and earn the food they eat. And as for you, brothers and sisters, never tire of doing what is good.” (2 Thessalonians 3:6-10, 12-13 NIV)

And I say, AMEN!

“What is desired in a man is kindness, And a poor man is better than a liar. The fear of the Lord leads to life, And he who has it will abide in satisfaction; He will not be visited with evil.” (Proverbs 19:22-23 NKJV)

He reminds us that it is better to live below society's standard of comfort than climbing the world’s ladder of possessions and social status with a ‘crab mentality’. Kindness is expected of man. Not deception and lies to gain an edge. Lying leads to sin, and sin has its penalty of death.

While fear of The Lord (the beginning of wisdom) leads to righteousness and life - that is life lived in grace by faith in Christ Jesus. It is a life abundantly blessed, content and flourishing. Scriptures affirm, as it is written: "The righteous will flourish like a palm tree, they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon; planted in the house of the Lord, they will flourish in the courts of our God.”(Psalm 92:12, 13 NIV)

One who honors God in reverent fear and dwells in His courts under the shadow of His mighty power is safe. King David's testimony in Psalms, says: "The Lord will keep you from all evil; he will keep your life. The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore.” (Psalm 121:7, 8 ESV)

And I say, AMEN!

Proverbs 19:20-21 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

“Listen to counsel and receive instruction, That you may be wise in your latter days. There are many plans in a man’s heart, Nevertheless the Lord’s counsel—that will stand.” (Proverbs 19:20, 21 NKJV)

We should realize that our life is a day to day journey to a destiny. Each day we take our step, leads us to our future. Hence, we must keep our ears open to the counsel of the One who knows and can lead us the way. So that as we progress in this journey and life, we become wiser to not depend on our whims and own wisdom. We may have many plans, but unless we surrender it to the Lord, it takes us nowhere. We'd end up in a place other than where God wants us to be. And the reality is, there are only two destinations – to be in heaven with Jesus or to be in hell with the devil. The counsel of the One who knows the way is what will stand to take us to where God wants us to be. That is to be with our Lord Jesus Christ in the everlasting life. He said: "And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.” (John 14:3 ESV)

Yes, we are on a journey to the ‘Promise Land’ in the presence of our Heavenly Father that we can only take one step at a time, day by day, in no other way except through faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. It is written, when Thomas one of the disciples said to Jesus “Lord we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?" Jesus answered, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:5-6 NIV)

We have to establish our faith firmly in Christ Jesus. He is the only way to our Heavenly Father. In our daily walk, we depend on the counsel of the Holy Spirit and His Words. With all that's available to us in this life, we hold on to His Words. These are what remain with us forever. Lord Jesus said: "Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.” (Luke 21:33 ASV)

And I say, AMEN!

Proverbs 19:19 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

“A man of great wrath will suffer punishment; For if you rescue him, you will have to do it again.” (Proverbs 19:19 NKJV)

He warns of the considerable penalty and repercussion to anger - especially one that is extremely uncontrollable. One possessed by such intense anger would be impossible to dissuade and reason out. He will end up languishing for his allotted judgement as a consequence for actions of rage. No matter how he is rescued, time after time, by those who care for him, he repeats doing it again and again. He allows his heart and mind to be stoked with every kind of irritants, negative feelings and thoughts. He exposes to dysfunctional environment of conflicts and tensions. He feeds his spirit with the food of the world - its bad report, envy, hatred, sensational chaos and tribulations. Focusing on all those heat around, who wouldn't boil in wrath?

Well, to be at peace and be free of bitterness, we are to focus on forgiveness and love in our heart, instead of wrath. We are to cease exposure to the world’s negative atmosphere. Let's look up to heaven where true life comes from. Let's come to the One who alone can rescue us, by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. Let's recline at the table of the Lord and feed our spirit with the food of His Word (Matthew 4:4). Let's fill our minds and hearts with things that are pure and praiseworthy, as it is written: "Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” (Philippians 4:8 NIV)

Apostle Paul further urged us with these words: "Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as, all types of evil behavior. Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.” (Ephesians 4:31, 32 NLT)

And I say, AMEN!

Proverbs 19:18 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

“Chasten your son while there is hope, And do not set your heart on his destruction.” (Proverbs 19:18 NKJV)

He gives light on the substance of spanking to enable parents to realign a child's deviant direction. When I was a child, I hated being spanked. I couldn't understand why pain had to be inflected on me when all I did was to eat ahead before everyone gets to the table. I asked why a father whips his son with a belt for sneaking to get out of ‘siesta’ time and play with fellow kids in the block. I did not understand why the need for severe punishment to be meted.

Later on, while by myself negotiating the complex road of life towards my destiny, and now looking back I realize, it was neither about eating nor sneaking to play. It was about breaking guiding words. I was told, but never listened. I repeatedly broke the established guidance of decorum. Now I see, observance of guidelines is vital in navigating life to arrive at our charted port of call.

I began to appreciate it, when I arrived at a place where no one from the place where I came had ever set foot before me. Because my parents did one of the most difficult things they got to do - they inflect pain on their son for the sake of discipline. The key is to discipline, not to destroy. Not like some parents do, as they set their heart for their children's destruction, by not correcting them. Yes some, they beat their children for hate, not for chastisement. It is woeful and must not happen. But, it is a crazy world. Even with that, lessons can be learned when it causes a child to run away from it and seek refuge with God.

Though my parents had been harsh and tough in their punishment, they did not destroy me. Rather they undergird me with strength to withstand the challenges and temptations of teenage years. Alone, with God my only comfort and refuge - His grace was more than enough. Yes, discipline is painful, but worst it would be to lose one's life and soul for the lack of it. It is a pain only for a short time that leaves a valuable jewel of character for a lifetime.

In the physical sense, discipline is an incongruous expression of love. But it sets us up for God's high call, as children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. The Bible says: "For our earthly fathers disciplined us for a few years, doing the best they knew how. But God’s discipline is always good for us, so that we might share in his holiness. No discipline is enjoyable while it is happening—it’s painful! But afterward there will be a peaceful harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way." (Hebrews 12:10, 11 NLT)

And I say, AMEN!

Proverbs 19:17 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

“He who has pity on the poor lends to the Lord, And He will pay back what he has given.” (Proverbs 19:17 NKJV)

He declares a strong promise. If out of obedience and for His glory, we make use of the resources He placed in our stewardship to help others in need, that is our 4Ts - our TIME, our TALENT, our TREASURE, and our TOUCH, He puts the loan to His account. He will pay it back!

It’s about time to set a habit of lending, as children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. Let's take part on feeding hungry souls - this moment, this time, this season, this year and the years ahead - in Jesus name! When He talks about the poor, God is not talking about the professional takers who take advantage of people’s generosity. He is not talking about the fool and the lazy. He is not talking about the disable that uses their disability as an asset for seeking charity.

He is talking about the spiritual orphans and widows and strangers in dire and helpless circumstances that we encounter in our way. The good Samaritan did not go looking for people to help, in the slums and other areas of lack, for pity to be displayed and get the applause of the world. He helped a stranger beaten and wounded whom he came upon on his path (Luke 10:30-35).

Yes, the Lord will repay! And on the Day of His coming, He will call all lenders to receive their reward. "Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’"(Matthew 25:34-36 ESV)

And I say, AMEN!

Proverbs 19:16 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

“He who keeps the commandment keeps his soul, But he who is careless of his ways will die.” (Proverbs 19:16 NKJV)

In this life and on this planet, there are only two ways how to live: God's way or any other way - the careless ways. God's way leads to life and victory. Other ways lead to death and defeat. God's way is rooted in His commandments and unchanging Words. Our choice of way ought to be as with the psalmist’s powerful declaration of truth: "Through your precepts I get understanding; therefore I hate every false way. Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. I have sworn an oath and confirmed it, to keep your righteous rules." (Psalm 119:104-106 ESV)

Other ways are floating on the precepts of men and ever changing standard of the world. Its direction goes every which way the wind of fleshly desires blow. Whether, one realizes it or not, does NOT change the reality and truth that careless ways result in everlasting death to the soul of man.

The ways of God in His commandment and His word and in Christ Jesus by faith usher our soul to everlasting life. Lord Jesus gives this assurance: "I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, the person whose ears are open to My words [who listens to My message] and believes and trusts in and clings to and relies on Him Who sent Me has (possesses now) eternal life. And he does not come into judgment [does not incur sentence of judgment, will not come under condemnation], but he has already passed over out of death into life. (John 5:24 AMP)

And I say, AMEN!

Proverbs 19:15 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

“Laziness casts one into a deep sleep, And an idle person will suffer hunger.” (Proverbs 19:15 NKJV)

It is said – ‘not all poor people are lazy. But, all lazy people are poor.’ It is written: "Sloth makes you poor; " (Proverbs 10:4a MSG)

God made us in His image. We are designed to do - GREAT works! Lord Jesus said: “I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father.” (John 14:12 NLT)

God worked six days of creation and rested on the seventh day (Genesis 2:2) He is working still and always will, as it is written: "But Jesus replied, “My Father is always working, and so am I”" (John 5:17 NLT). He never sleeps. He watches over us (Psalm 121:4). As His children by faith in Christ Jesus, we too are to work! And, make every effort to enter into His rest (Hebrews 4:9-11).

God is stirring us! Why slumber and be cast in deep sleep by torpidity? Life collapses on lazybones in hunger and want. Then, they murmur in emptiness and lack? Come now, let's quicken up and get to work! The scripture declared: "... diligence brings wealth." (Proverbs 10:4b MSG)

Apostle Paul challenged us with these words: "Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord." (Romans 12:11 ESV)

And I say, AMEN!

Proverbs 19:14 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

“Houses and riches are an inheritance from fathers, But a prudent wife is from the Lord.” (Proverbs 19:14 NKJV)

He reminds us that God's material blessings to our parents may be passed on to us, their children. That is if they have sown and scattered the seeds God provided (those are their T4s - Time, Talent, Treasure & Touch) in the fields of The Lord. Godly parents leave their children the legacy of blessings, to nurture and to prosper for the glory of God, and to pass on to the next generations.

But a wise and virtuous spouse, no parents can give their children. He/she is the kind of spouse who builds a home truly made into a sanctuary of God's comfort and peace. Only God can see their hearts. A prudent wife is heritage from God for those who seek them from Him. Those who depend in The Lord will experience such beautiful encounter with their divinely chosen partners. One such example was Boaz who encountered a prudent woman in the person of Ruth. Both their paths were orchestrated in such amazing divine direction to converge at the harvest field, as it is written in the Book of Ruth, Chapter 2. Ruth and Boaz were the ancestors of David and Jesus. Boaz who stewards his wealth in God's way is such an example of a wise husband for Ruth. And Ruth, who was a Moabite – not a Jew, is a good example of a prudent wife to Boaz. Not like many in the world today who quarrel with their mother-in laws, she was also an amazing daughter-in-law to Naomi.

Like Boaz and Ruth, we should follow God's promptings deep in our hearts by the cue of His Words, as we rest in His grace by faith in Christ Jesus. When our conscience tells us, 'this direction I am going is not right', we stop! Wait upon the Holy Spirit! Then follow His lead. Like Ruth, she persists to follow God's lead to her divine destiny, even with Naomi driving her away. The purity of her heart was revealed in her declaration of faith when she was strongly urged by her mother-in-law to go back to her family, as her husband already passed away. She profoundly declared, as it is written: "But Ruth replied, “Don’t ask me to leave you and turn back. Wherever you go, I will go; wherever you live, I will live. Your people will be my people, and your God will be my God. Wherever you die, I will die, and there I will be buried. May the lord punish me severely if I allow anything but death to separate us!” (Ruth 1:16, 17 NLT)

And I say, AMEN!

Proverbs 19:13 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

“A foolish son is the ruin of his father, And the contentions of a wife are a continual dripping.” (Proverbs 19:13 NKJV)

He highlights two ways to devastate a home, the ungodly child and the irritating banter of a contentious spouse. A child who walks not in the path of God, exacerbated by unrelenting friction with a spouse, break apart the comfort and peace of a home. It turns a home from a place of refuge to a zone of war. When that happens, the enemy of our soul would come in to join in the fray. And he comes with one thing in mind - to destroy, as what's happening in many homes we hear in the 'fake' media’s favorite doom and gloom news.

As fathers and mothers in our homes, we must stand strong in the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and pray! Never give an inch to the enemy by worrying. Rather, we hold on! We stand on the rock of God's Word! We cry out for His help and rest in our Lord's promise - "I will never leave you nor forsake you." He holds our daughters, our sons, our wives, our husbands in His mighty hands. He will guide and lead us the way to establish our homes, as the Psalmist declared: "Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and He delivered them out of their distresses. He led them forth by the straight and right way, that they might go to a city where they could establish their homes.” (Psalm 107:6, 7 AMP)

And I say, AMEN!

Proverbs 19:12 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

“The king’s wrath is like the roaring of a lion, But his favor is like dew on the grass.” (Proverbs 19:12 NKJV)

He gives an attention alert for all who are in position subject to an authority. Authorities can either be as mean-spirited as a roaring lion over their subjects who displease them, or as tender-hearted like refreshing morning dew on a grass, over those who give them pleasure.

To be spared from the heavy hand of a king, honor him with your faithfulness and loyalty. Rebelling would be a lethal option. His wrath is vicious. This is a metaphor to reflect on before making that rebellious choice in our relationship with our Master and Savior.

As the servant does the will of his master, he gains the favor of the master, as illustrated in a parable of the Lord Jesus Christ. It's about a master settling accounts with his servants in the parable of the talents. 

The slothful servant received his master's fury, when he was spiteful instead of reporting a profit for the funds  entrusted him. It is written: "But his master answered him, ‘You wicked and slothful servant! You knew that I reap where I have not sown and gather where I scattered no seed? Then you ought to have invested my money with the bankers, and at my coming I should have received what was my own with interest. So take the talent from him and give it to him who has the ten talents. For to everyone who has will more be given, and he will have an abundance. But from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away. And cast the worthless servant into the outer darkness. In that place, there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth." (Matthew 25:26-30 ESV)

But, the master gave the highest commendation and reward to his faithful servant. This is reminding us to be faithful to our Master and Savior, to rest in grace by His finished on the cross. The little faith we have, we surrender to His faithfulness. On His return, He settles account with us like the faithful servant: "His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master." (Matthew 25:23 ESV)

And I say, AMEN!

Blessed Easter Beloved Brethren, Family & Friends!

When the Lord Jesus declared on the cross: “.. it is finished …(John 19:30)” He accomplished once and for all what He came for:

* The law was fulfilled (Matthew 5:17; Romans 10:4).

* The ransom was paid. Our sins are forgiven (Hebrews 9:12-15).

So, now by grace through faith in our Lord Jesus Christ:

* We are saved (Ephesians 2:8-9).
* We are reconciled to God (Romans 5:10-11; 2 Corinthians 5:18-19).
* We are made righteous by believing (Romans 3:21-22;10:4).
* We are hidden in Christ (Colossians 3:3).
* We are seated with our Lord Jesus in heavenly realms (Ephesians 2:6).
* He has given us everything we need for life and Godliness (2 Peter 1:3).
* We are declared children of God (Galatians 3:26).
* We are made co-heirs with our Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 8:17)!

All these are gifts of His grace and love as we receive His Lordship in our life, in an intimate personal relationship. Not religion! He is knocking at the door of our heart. For those who have not, and those who want to strengthen that bond our Lord's love, let’s open the door and welcome Him. Let Him reign in our lives, forevermore!

The Lord declared: the restoration is accomplished! The reason why He had to die on the cross which literally means the tree. Man's separation from God was caused by Adam's trespass of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. We have to be restored on the tree of His sacrifice. Right now He is knocking to restore us! He said: “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.” (Revelation‬ ‭3:20‬ ‭NKJV)‬‬

Now is the time to come to our knees. Welcome Him! Declare these words from our hearts:
"Father Heaven, I come to you now, in Jesus’ Name, Jesus who loves me, and gave Himself for me. Lord, I love you, and I give myself to you. I ask you right now, come into my heart, come into my life, be my Savior and be my Lord. And by the blood of Jesus, that was shed for me, please forgive me of every sin, cleanse me from all unrighteousness, make me brand new, and set me free. And now, fill me with Your peace, with Your joy, with the Holy Spirit, and with the assurance that You’ll never leave me, and You’ll never forsake me. And I thank you now in, Jesus’ Name. Amen!"

Proverbs 19:11 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

“The discretion of a man makes him slow to anger, And his glory is to overlook a transgression.” (Proverbs 19:11 NKJV)

He gives a very useful life-saving counsel of discretion. It is one that can surely steer your direction away from the trail to jail and the portals of hell. Many who forgo discretion, they snapped in every bit of transgression. They took a ride on indiscretion and ended in incarceration.

Yes, that split second decision to slow down before snapping to anger can make such a big difference between glory or ignominy. We are made aware indiscretion rushes to motions of fury and vexation. Left unchecked, it leads to sin. And, sin leads to regrettable and deadly eternal consequences. 

So, let us walk with discretion, abide in grace through faith in Christ Jesus, who already freed us on the cross from the chain and power of sin. Apostle Paul calls our attention with these words of warning and promise: "But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its end, eternal life. Proverbs 19:10 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

“Luxury is not fitting for a fool, Much less for a servant to rule over princes.” (Proverbs 19:10 NKJV)

With this passage, He is provoking our spiritual thoughts. The Message Bible paraphrase puts it this way: "Blockheads shouldn’t live on easy street any more than workers should give orders to their boss." (Proverbs 19:10 MSG)

In this physical world, possessions and positions are earned. It calls for high degree of stewardship of accountability and capability. And, foremost it calls for knowing the sovereign owner and source and master. Anyone in such a loaded seat of control without preparation and grounding would indeed be like a fool shoved in splendor and a slave directing his worldly master. They will just waste luxury and squander productive power to naught, for which they are both ignorant and lacking management skills, respectively. We’ve seen it happened to people’s lives destroyed by windfall material gains from lotteries and inherited power.

Referring to things good for the soul, which are better than luxuries of the world, Lord Jesus said: "“Don’t waste what is holy on people who are unholy. Don’t throw your pearls to pigs! They will trample the pearls, then turn and attack you." (Matthew 7:6 NLT)

In regard with reversed roles of slave and master analogy, Lord Jesus gives this instruction: "Let them alone; they are blind guides. And if the blind lead the blind, both will fall into a pit.” (Matthew 15:14 ESV)

In the Body of Christ, each of us has an effective part to play, starting where we are at when we know the truth. Apostle Paul urged us with these words: "Servants, respectfully obey your earthly masters but always with an eye to obeying the real master, Christ. Don’t just do what you have to do to get by, but work heartily, as Christ’s servants doing what God wants you to do. And work with a smile on your face, always keeping in mind that no matter who happens to be giving the orders, you’re really serving God. Good work will get you good pay from the Master, regardless of whether you are slave or free. Masters, it’s the same with you. No abuse, please, and no threats. You and your servants are both under the same Master in heaven. He makes no distinction between you and them.” (Ephesians 6:5-9 MSG)

And I say, AMEN!

Proverbs 19:9 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

“A false witness will not go unpunished, And he who speaks lies shall perish.” (Proverbs 19:9 NKJV)

Again, He seriously reminds of the 8th commandment -"Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor." (Exodus 20:16).

God cannot allow lie in His house. He is God of truth. Through the psalmist, He warns: "He who works deceit shall not dwell within my house; he who tells lies cannot continue in my presence (Psalm 101:7)." Yes, life of lies and falsehoods, lead to a perishing end, as it is written: "…All liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.” (Revelation 21:8b ESV)

Hence, as members in the body of Christ, by grace through faith in Jesus, Apostle Paul exhorts us with these words: "So stop telling lies. Let us tell our neighbors the truth, for we are all parts of the same body.” (Ephesians 4:25 NLT)

And I say, AMEN!

Proverbs 19:8 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

“He who gets wisdom loves his own soul; He who keeps understanding will find good.” (Proverbs 19:8 NKJV)

This reminds that getting wisdom is to love ourselves and with a discerning heart we will get hold of the goodness of God and secure our soul for eternity. As we pause to reflect on this passage, it points us to the greatest commandment. When Lord Jesus was tested and asked by the Sadducees: which is the greatest commandment? "Jesus replied: 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."(Matthew 22:37-40)

"Love your neighbor as yourself" reveals that the ultimate manifestation of loving God - is loving others, which can only be given when we truly love ourselves, knowing that we are the beloved of God. As a song goes to say - "the greatest love of all is to love yourself." It is only by wisdom of God we can know that unless we love ourselves by receiving the love of Jesus, we can't love others. We can't give having nothing to give! Our attitude should be like that of John who affirms Jesus’s love, as he wrote about him “the disciple whom Jesus loved” (John 21:20; 13:23; 19:26). We, rightly so, boast of God’s love for us. Nothing can separate us from His love! (Romans 8:37-39)

Heavenly love can be had by being in His word and accepting our Father and Lord Jesus Christ to abide in our hearts, through believing (John 16:27). God, who is love (1 John 4:8), reside in and with us! It is written: “Jesus answered him, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.” (John 14:23 ESV)

And I say, AMEN!

Proverbs 19:7 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

“All the brothers of the poor hate him; How much more do his friends go far from him! He may pursue them with words, yet they abandon him.” (Proverbs 19:7 NKJV)

He gives us such a powerful reminder, our help comes from heaven - our only dependable source for everything. We put our trust, neither in men and women, nor friends nor families. They are not always available when we are in trouble and in want. Yes, the Lord uses them. When we are in need - God may send our families and friends. But, they neither have the power nor the resources to rescue us. Some may at times despise us or even run away from us. They are not designed to carry our troubles, as we all are not. The reason, Lord Jesus invites us to cast our burdens upon Him. It is written: “Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.” (Psalm 55:22 NIV)

So, as one who had already been rescued by our Lord Jesus Christ on the cross, our trust is in Him. Yes, we are warned that in our lack, in this world, many if not all may abandon us! Hence, as children of God by faith in Christ Jesus, let us declare boldly in faith as the psalmist proclaims: "I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul makes its boast in the Lord; let the humble hear and be glad. Oh, magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together! I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears. Those who look to him are radiant, and their faces shall never be ashamed. This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him and saved him out of all his troubles. The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them. Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him! Oh, fear the Lord, you his saints, for those who fear him have no lack! The young lions suffer want and hunger; but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing."(Psalm 34:1-10 ESV)

And I say, AMEN!

Proverbs 19:6 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

“Many entreat the favor of the nobility, And every man is a friend to one who gives gifts.” (Proverbs 19:6 NKJV)

This is another spiritually breathe observation of Solomon, the first world's richest man - the wisest king ever lived. He experienced the crowd and constant pester of petitioners seeking his intervention on their behalf. The simple fact of life is that many will seek man's favor because of what he offers to them.

The man who gives gifts will have many friends. But - it has a flip side. If your friends are because of the dole out - be careful! Ensure to discern true friends in the midst of them. It's been proven, when the gifts cease, often so does some friendships. That is why being generous must be for generosity sakes only. And, giving should not be to buy allegiance and friendship. We are to be generous because it is a good thing to be generous. On the other hand, true friendship is not out of what you can get, but out of what you can give. A discerning spirit is what you need because you must know who your real friends are? In the end – they will be the ones who will stick with you, no matter what your bottom line is - and theirs, too.

We have that true loving friend in Christ Jesus, as we receive His Lordship by faith. He said: “No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you.”(John 15:15 ESV)

And, He gives us life... “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.” (John 3:16-19 NIV)

And I say, AMEN!

Proverbs 19:5 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

"A false witness will not go unpunished, And he who speaks lies will not escape." (Proverbs 19:5 NKJV)

He means it. Lying has its consequences. The law and its penalty for disobedience had been established. You speak lies and it backfires on you ending up in jail for self-incrimination or perjury. Miranda warning should be taken seriously. Un-confessed and un-repented, falsity could lead to perennial lying that ends up in sinfulness which forfeits life. The scriptures warn of these things, as it is written: “But cowards, unbelievers, the corrupt, murderers, the immoral, those who practice witchcraft, idol worshipers, and ALL LIARS —their fate is in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.” (Revelation 21:8 NLT)

But, as true believers in Christ Jesus, who trust in His words and rest in His grace by faith, no more lies from our lips. We have been freed from the shackles of falsehood and sinfulness, as it is written: "To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:31, 32 NIV)

Yes, it is through God’s grace by faith in Jesus Christ we are freed and made righteous before the Lord. Not by religion. Not by works of self-effort to observe the law, as apostle Paul testified: “Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith—" (Philippians 3:8-9 ESV)

And I say, AMEN!

Proverbs 19:4 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

"Wealth makes many friends, But the poor is separated from his friend." (Proverbs 19:4 NKJV)

In this greedy world, we should not be surprised when in hordes, so-called friends converge speedily on the wealthy like ants feasting on honey. Riches are like twisters which gather swiftly a lot on its path to swirl around with, and when it dissipates to settle down there are nothing left but debris. On the same manner, the aftermath of being abandoned by 'friends', usually comes in the form of anger, disappointment and hate. There would be regrets too, as well as, feeling of being used and taken for a ride.

That's how riches of the world work when unconsecrated to God. Most especially if it is gained other than God's way, like what the prodigal son did. He extorted his inheritance from his fully alive father. Then, he went on to squander it in wild-living with his here-today-gone-tomorrow-sort-of-friends in faraway land. As he became poor, in need and hungry in the middle of severe famine, with his money gone, so did his "friends". He longed to eat the pods that the pigs ate. But, no one gave him anything! (Luke 15:11-16).

That's no place God wants us to be, being His children through faith in Christ Jesus. Our Heavenly Father purposes us to be truly blessed and be a blessing towards eternal life. Hence, Apostle Paul instructed Timothy with these words: “Tell those rich in this world’s wealth to quit being so full of themselves and so obsessed with money, which is here today and gone tomorrow. Tell them to go after God, who piles on all the riches we could ever manage—to do good to be rich in helping others, to be extravagantly generous. If they do that, they’ll build a treasury that will last, gaining life that is truly life.” (1Timothy 6:17-19 MSG)

And I say, AMEN!
