Proverbs 28:17 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“A man that doeth violence to the blood of any person Shall flee to the pit; let no man stay him.” (Proverbs 28:17 KJV)

Millions of innocent blood are shed and violated yearly around the world and in this country. WorldOmeter reports that there are 200,000 babies aborted everyday. And, it is sad that there are conspirators who keep on putting people in law making roles and positions of power that promote such kind of violent crimes. It is abominable to watch people crying out loud to protect and save dogs and cats, but mum over the murder of the helpless babies that many angrily want to be declared health hazards. And many of those are people who complain about injustice and even make issue of the effect of climate cycle on human race, as if they care!

That's what happens when the creation behaves as if they are the Creator. Warp thinking, oxymorons and paradoxes become mainstream doctrine of discourse and living for many. They reject God who formed them and all things. They mock God's Words. They transform the godless humanity into a massive convoluted noise. The Lord Jesus has this warning to them: “There is a judge for the one who rejects me and does not accept my words; the very words I have spoken will condemn them at the last day.”(John 12:48 NIV)

And, He further warned against those noises of darkness: "But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.” (Matthew 12:36-37 NIV)

As God’s children by grace, born again in spirit through faith in Christ Jesus, we ought not associate with them, nor cover for them who shed blood. God’s Word said, they are destined for the pit of judgement. Lord Jesus affirmed: “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder; and whoever murders will be liable to judgment.’” (Matthew 5:21 ESV)

Proverbs 28:15-16 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“As a roaring lion, and a ranging bear; So is a wicked ruler over the poor people. The prince that wanteth understanding is also a great oppressor: But he that hateth covetousness shall prolong his days.” (Proverbs 28:15-16 KJV)

These keep us mindful of the kind of rulers we should be careful not to let slip into positions of power. Especially, in a democratic process where the ultimate power of self-rule is vested in each citizen. We choose who and how we should be ruled and served. We give power to those who govern for our common good. There is grave danger, for a wicked ruler like a roaring lion and ranging bear; or one that lacks understanding, to be seated at the helm and rule the nation with oppression, especially on the helpless and the poor.

We are called upon to have Godly standards to base on to judge and identify trustworthy people for leadership. One test this passage tells is a person's hate against covetousness and greed. But, we can't see the contents of a person's heart. Hence, we need guidance from the One who sees. In Christ Jesus, we have Him to teach us and guide us. He is the person of the Holy Spirit. With the knowledge of God's holy and written Word and with prayers, we should go to the polls and vote as the Spirit of the Lord reveals in us. We are to appoint our public servants and “leaders” guided by values rooted in faith of God and guided by the lens of His Words. When we choose our leaders with the blessing of the Lord, there will be long days of prosperity.

We don't only look at the person's outward facade and body language. Those can be faked. As sons and daughters of the Most High God by grace through faith in Christ Jesus, He guides us by the promptings of the Holy Spirit. The Lord said this to Samuel, who was sent to anoint a new king of Israel: “But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.” (1 Samuel 16:7 ESV)

Proverbs 28:14 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“Happy is the man that feareth always: But he that hardeneth his heart shall fall into mischief.” (Proverbs 28:14 KJV)

The message Bible paraphrase, reasserts the simple truth that: “A tenderhearted person lives a blessed life; a hardhearted person lives a hard life.”(Proverbs 28:14 MSG) A person who is always cautious is blessed. He is one having an attitude of positive reverent fear. The fear of stepping into sinful ways will prevent him from stepping into sinful ways. It is driven by the knowledge that we are the beloved of the Lord and that we don't want to fall out of that love.

Hardening of heart leads to tomfoolery and riotous living which are destructive to self, and hurtful to others who love us. That’s the enemy’s camp, a place our loving Heavenly Father does not want to be. The Lord's Words warn: “If a person does not repent, God will sharpen his sword; he will bend and string his bow. He will prepare his deadly weapons and shoot his flaming arrows. The wicked conceive evil; they are pregnant with trouble and give birth to lies. They dig a deep pit to trap others, then fall into it themselves. The trouble they make for others backfires on them. The violence they plan falls on their own heads.” (Psalms 7:12-16 NLT)

Hence, it is always to our best interest to rest in the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, be guided by His Word and the Holy Spirit. Those who are separated from God are to have a repentant heart and turn around with eyes focused on Him - the author and finisher of our faith. In Him, He secures us in His love. No one can snatch us from His hand. He promised those who receive His Lordship: “I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.”” (John 10:28-30 ESV)

Proverbs 28:13 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: But whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.” (Proverbs 28:13 KJV)

Conceal or reveal! Hide or bare! These are simple consequential options every person has. It makes one wonder how the course of man's journey would have been? If only Adam did not run away to hide and sulk after the fall. If only he ran to God and confessed what he had done! If only they - Adam and Eve, owned up what they did instead of casting blame (Genesis 3:11-13). God's grace and mercy would have been sufficient and the curse of sin would not have emaciated humanity.

This passage warns, and gives hope as the psalmist testifies: “Count yourself lucky, how happy you must be— you get a fresh start, your slate’s wiped clean. Count yourself lucky— God holds nothing against you and you’re holding nothing back from him. When I kept it all inside, my bones turned to powder, my words became daylong groans. The pressure never let up; all the juices of my life dried up. Then I let it all out; I said, “I’ll come clean about my failures to God.” Suddenly the pressure was gone— my guilt dissolved, my sin disappeared.” (Psalm 32:1-5 MSG)

Yes, such a refreshing testimony! And, this passage reminds that when we come and bare before the Lord by accepting the Lordship of Jesus, the burden of missteps and inequities we've done, He wipes clean in mercy. We are given a fresh start to walk in righteousness through grace by faith in Jesus. We are washed by His blood and by His Word. And, as we remain in His Word, the Psalmist affirms: “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.” (Psalm 1:3 ESV)

Proverbs 28:12 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“When righteous men do rejoice, there is great glory: But when the wicked rise, a man is hidden.” (Proverbs 28:12 KJV)

This passage speaks about two influencers of contrast, between the righteous and the wicked. It is right on spot of today's political discourse and social pulse - in light of the country and the world's moral and spiritual decline. And, most sadly in the so called 'churches' that has drifted away from the truth of God's holy and written Word.

When the righteous rejoices and rises to authority, influence and power - joy, peace and prosperity reign for the nation. An atmosphere of exuberance pervades the hearts of its people. They are jubilant. There is rejoicing. And, they glory in it as the name of the Lord is lifted high in Christ Jesus.

When people, who reject God and trample on the authority of His Word, step into authority and power, the people suffer. Like in the reign of Ahab and his wife Jezebel who ruled the kingdom of Israel. They rejected the true God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Then, they established the evil religion of Baal their pagan god - a false god (1 King 16:29-33). Which is just like the atmosphere, we are watching, in today's world and sadly in our nation. The Supremacy of God, who sent His only Son Jesus to die for mankind, is being replaced by self-defined belief in a god that kills millions of unborn children and totally reject the Lord's holy and written Word. The cries of those innocent babies are hidden, as their body parts are hidden in so-called 'medical science breakthroughs'. And, the people are burdened of the harsh realities for living the right way, of diligence, honesty and integrity.

Yes, that's how it is when leaders and those who raise and install such leaders in power turn away from the TRUE God and Father of Jesus Christ. People suffer. People are Cancelled, Hidden, Shamed and Trampled. But, time is coming. And, let it not be too late to honor Him and receive Him Jesus our Lord by faith and be saved by His grace. Let it be now! He is Lord of all creation, as it is written: “Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2:9-11 ESV)

Proverbs 28:11 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“The rich man is wise in his own conceit; But the poor that hath understanding searcheth him out.” (Proverbs 28:11 KJV)

Perverted wisdom that is of the world is what temporal riches make a person become, this passage warns. His ego could bloat by the impact of the possessions he amasses. Just like the man Lord Jesus mentioned in His parable of the rich fool: “And he told them this parable: “The ground of a certain rich man yielded an abundant harvest. He thought to himself, ‘What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.’ “Then he said, ‘This is what I’ll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store my surplus grain. And I’ll say to myself, “You have plenty of grain laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry.” ’ “But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’ “This is how it will be with whoever stores up things for themselves but is not rich toward God.”” (Luke 12:16-21 NIV)

But, the poor man, in the perspective of the world as well, uneducated and maybe not as much possessions and position to flaunt before men, or even lame, yet could have discernment beyond this realm. This crystallizes the story of Lazarus, another story the Lord Jesus told. For our reminder, this should settle us strongly grounded to rest in God’s grace through faith in Christ Jesus. It is written: “There was a rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and who feasted sumptuously every day. And at his gate was laid a poor man named Lazarus, covered with sores, who desired to be fed with what fell from the rich man’s table. Moreover, even the dogs came and licked his sores. The poor man died and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried, and in Hades, being in torment, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham far off and Lazarus at his side. And he called out, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus to dip the end of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am in anguish in this flame.’ But Abraham said, ‘Child, remember that you in your lifetime received your good things, and Lazarus in like manner bad things; but now he is comforted here, and you are in anguish. And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, in order that those who would pass from here to you may not be able, and none may cross from there to us.’” (Luke 16:19-26 ESV)

Proverbs 28:10 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“Whoso causeth the righteous to go astray in an evil way, He shall fall himself into his own pit: But the upright shall have good things in possession.” (Proverbs 28:10 KJV)

Consequences! Consequences!

Here's a reminder, for the choices of actions people take - good or evil, there are consequences. The devious who digs a pit to trap the unsuspecting, especially those who walk the way of righteousness, will end up themselves falling in it. Hence, everyone is warned not to take that way. Need to be wise to know the right path we take. And, thanks be to our Lord, His Words we are given for our guide.

The BIBLE, the 'B'asic 'I'nstruction 'B'efore 'L'eaving 'E'arth, is given to help us how to walk uprightly on this planet. It is our direction to rightly possess good things for now and for eternity. It assures us that as we follow the cues in His Words, we can walk with confidence and freedom. No fear. We have the light to see what's ahead of us.

The devious is warned: “Whoever digs a hole and scoops it out falls into the pit they have made. The trouble they cause recoils on them; their violence comes down on their own heads.”(Psalms 7:15-16 NIV)

Walking under the grace of our Lord, we have this comforting assurance as children of the Most High God by faith in Christ Jesus. It is written, the Psalmist declare: “How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth! Through your precepts I get understanding; therefore I hate every false way. Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” (Psalm 119:103-105 ESV)

Proverbs 28:9 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, Even his prayer shall be abomination.” (Proverbs 28:9 KJV)

Life in this physical realm is governed by laws established by God at the beginning of time. These laws are contained in His holy and written Words. Turning away from hearing His Words lead to missing the rhythm of the way this life is to be lived. Yes, we are designed for the glory of Him who crafted us by His hands. We are His masterpiece (Ephesians 2:10 NLT). “His divine purpose for us is to let Him love us.” His Words guide us to our divine purpose, to have the attitude of Apostle John. He got it, as he constantly confessed for being “the disciple whom Jesus loved (John 13:23; 19:26; 20:2).”

Apart from the Lord, we are nothing. Lord Jesus said: “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”(John 15:5 NIV) We need that constant moment to moment communion with God through His Words. Turning away from His Words, prayers become a detestable blabber to God. By His words we are connected with the vine.

We are to call on the Lord in His will, by revelations through His words. And, He hears our prayers. We have this promise: “And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.” (1 John 5:14-15 ESV)

Proverbs 28:8 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“He that by usury and unjust gain increaseth his substance, He shall gather it for him that will pity the poor.” (Proverbs 28:8 KJV)

Whatever state of living anyone has is not an excuse to acquire unjust gain. And for those who already have much, when they leech in further to amass more possessions, they are not going to hold it for long. This passage tells us that it will be taken away from them. It will fly away into the hands of those who deserve it. It is not theirs in the first place, especially if they are taking advantage on the misery of the diligent. This is the Lord's super natural redistribution of wealth to the rightful people who earned it. Them, whose trust is in Lord Jesus Christ, will be provided much to give to the needy. They’ll be blessed with more, as it is more blessed to give than to receive (Acts 20:35).

And, to the unjust, the greedy of the world's fleeting resources, the Word of the Lord warns: “And a final word to you arrogant rich: Take some lessons in lament. You’ll need buckets for the tears when the crash comes upon you. Your money is corrupt and your fine clothes stink. Your greedy luxuries are a cancer in your gut, destroying your life from within. You thought you were piling up wealth. What you’ve piled up is judgment. All the workers you’ve exploited and cheated cry out for judgment. The groans of the workers you used and abused are a roar in the ears of the Master Avenger. You’ve looted the earth and lived it up. But all you’ll have to show for it is a fatter than usual corpse. In fact, what you’ve done is condemn and murder perfectly good persons, who stand there and take it. ” (James 5:1-6 MSG)

Proverbs 28:7 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“Whoso keepeth the law is a wise son: But he that is a companion of riotous men shameth his father.” (Proverbs 28:7 KJV)

What we value in our hearts and the company we keep matter much. It shapes the kind of person we become. It also positions the trajectory of our life's destiny. This passage reveals that it is not the one who studies the law, which is the Word of God, who is wise. Rather, it is the one who KEEPS and VALUES God's holy and written Word in his heart. Only by His Word rooted in us, we become wise. And, wisdom is essential for choosing the right circle to hang out with and the company we walk with in our life's journey.

This passage also warns that to be in the company of riotous people; the drunkards; gluttons; immoral persons; the lazy crowd; sluggards; light, superficial and worthless mob with no depth in character, bring shame to those who love us most. They are influences for ungodly lifestyles. They lead you to destruction.

So, this brings to light and remembrance the Lord's divine intent and plan for us to be wise and be blessed. God blesses us not just to give honor to those who raise us to become who we are. His intent is to make things go well in our lives, flourishing and thriving like a tree planted by the river. As children of the Most High God in Christ Jesus by faith, we are given this reminder and promise: “Children, obey your parents because you belong to the Lord, for this is the right thing to do. “Honor your father and mother.” This is the first commandment with a promise: If you honor your father and mother, “things will go well for you, and you will have a long life on the earth.”” (Ephesians 6:1-3 NLT)

Proverbs 28:6 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“Better is the poor that walketh in his uprightness, Than he that is perverse in his ways, though he be rich.” (Proverbs 28:6 KJV)

This reminds of the contrasting characters, in the persons of Charles Ingalls and Harriet Oleson, of the TV show Little House on The Prairie during the 1970s - 80s. Mr Ingalls portrayed a "poor" farmer who lived in a little farmhouse on the prairie. He was a man of high integrity. On the other hand, Mrs Oleson who owns the only Mercantile in their small village of Walnut Grove, while she considered herself the richest person of the town, she was depicted a perversely corrupt and disgraceful woman. Mr Ingalls was blessed with just enough. But, his home is filled with joy, love and peace. Even times of adversity, his home is filled with the spirit of blessings. His family was never in want. There was content. He extended grace in many occasions to Mrs Oleson who refused to extend him any grace period for his account in her store. Her house is full of extravagant material things, as well as, with tension and strife.

Striving to get rich in material things? Lord Jesus warns with these Words: “And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul?”(Mark 8:36-37 NLT).

However, when we choose to walk uprightly in God’s grace by faith in Christ Jesus, we don't have to pursue blessings, blessings (fullness of physical and spiritual joy, peace and vigor) will pursue us. The Word of the Lord assures, as it is written: “Praise the Lord! Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who greatly delights in his commandments! His offspring will be mighty in the land; the generation of the upright will be blessed. Wealth and riches are in his house, and his righteousness endures forever.” (Psalm 112:1-3 ESV)

Proverbs 28:5 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“Evil men understand not judgment: But they that seek the LORD understand all things.” (Proverbs 28:5 KJV)

Here's a pop up alert! We ought not let the wicked world, who does not understand justice, sit to execute judgment on how we should live. Apostle Paul warns of it with these words: "You let the world, which doesn't know the first thing about living, tell you how to live. You filled your lungs with polluted unbelief, and then exhaled disobedience." (Ephesians 2:2 MSG) Yes, that's what we get from the world. They are blind and ignorant, because they are alienated from God. With them ruling our lives, as we can see with the state our present world, it is certain our lives become polluted and brought to decadence.

But, the good news is, those who seek the Lord shall understand all things. And, we are found in Christ Jesus the moment we receive His Lordship in our life by grace through faith. He transforms us by His Word, in the process of rebirth from the flesh to our true nature in the spirit. We will be given the mind of Christ, as it is written: “The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned. The spiritual person judges all things, but is himself to be judged by no one. “For who has understood the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ.” (1 Corinthians 2:14-16 ESV)

Proverbs 28:4 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“They that forsake the law praise the wicked: But such as keep the law contend with them.” (Proverbs 28:4 KJV)

This reflects the present day political and social climate in our country and the world. There is no clearer dividing line than what we are witnessing, between light and darkness, between those that abide and reject God's Word, between good and evil. We are watching law breakers celebrated, while preservers of law and order reviled. We see felons memorialized and memorials of heroes desecrated. We see indolence rewarded and diligence penalized. This is the result of man forsaking God's sovereignty and the authority of His Words.

The contraction of evil ways is intensifying. So, for every born again member in the body of Christ, it is important to stand up and honor the Lord, rest in His grace by faith. Like apostle Paul we share the gospel of the Lord Jesus unashamed, for it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes (Romans 1:16).

Hence, to withstand the onslaught of wickedness, Apostle Paul calls us all to reflect on this exhortation to the church of Ephesus: “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God,” (Ephesians 6:10-17 ESV)

Proverbs 28:3 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“A poor man that oppresseth the poor Is like a sweeping rain which leaveth no food.” (Proverbs 28:3 KJV)

A poor man oppressing a poor man!? Is this real? God’s Word says it is! Though in most cases, we see the powerful, the rich and the privileged taking advantage of those who are in the lower rung of the world's perceived classes. Well, of course, many of those who became rich and powerful started poor, anyway. The truth of the matter is, everyone steps into this world with nothing, and certainly steps out with nothing. Seeing an unprivileged maltreating another is repugnant and unforgivable before our Heavenly Father. It is likened to a deluge of sweeping rain that wipes off crops and vegetation which leaves complete devastation and brings hunger to many. It brings deprivation to many, both body and soul, this passage warns.

A poor man who exploits and mistreats a fellow lowly man is best depicted in the Lord's parable of the debtors. This serves as reminder and warning to us all, especially for us who are called children of God by grace, and reborn in spirit through faith in Christ Jesus. It is written, Jesus said: “Therefore the kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who wished to settle accounts with his servants. When he began to settle, one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents. And since he could not pay, his master ordered him to be sold, with his wife and children and all that he had, and payment to be made. So the servant fell on his knees, imploring him, ‘Have patience with me, and I will pay you everything.’ And out of pity for him, the master of that servant released him and forgave him the debt.

But when that same servant went out, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii, and seizing him, he began to choke him, saying, ‘Pay what you owe.’ So his fellow servant fell down and pleaded with him, ‘Have patience with me, and I will pay you.’ He refused and went and put him in prison until he should pay the debt. When his fellow servants saw what had taken place, they were greatly distressed, and they went and reported to their master all that had taken place. Then his master summoned him and said to him, ‘You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you pleaded with me. And should not you have had mercy on your fellow servant, as I had mercy on you?’ And in anger his master delivered him to the jailers, until he should pay all his debt.

So also my heavenly Father will do to every one of you, if you do not forgive your brother from your heart.”” (Matthew 18:23-35 ESV)

Proverbs 28:2 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“For the transgression of a land many are the princes thereof: But by a man of understanding and knowledge the state thereof shall be prolonged.” (Proverbs 28:2 KJV)

When trust in the Lord and His Words are breached and transgressed, there arises chaos of leadership in the land, this passage warns and reminds. The echelon of a nation's power explodes in sporadic directions. The standard of morality is corrupted. An un-godly culture is formed. They start calling good evil, and evil good. Many 'princes' would arise to claim and take the role of activists and influencers, then start calling the shots aimed at promoting their avaricious and cocky agenda. The nation fractures. The citizens suffer. Fear wrought on social and political order for the worse.

Ever since when God, His Words and prayers were evicted from our nation's seat of governance, our courts, our schools, our public places and events, our nation is in spiral degeneration. Gone are the heydays of all-encompassing affluence, influence, blessings and prosperity. A country, our nation, need leaders with Godly wisdom and skills to govern. One who rectifies repugnant governance and leadership transgressions by abiding with God's holy and written Words, and by upholding God's moral standards - not evict it. We need leaders who honor God's sovereignty, for our nation to prosper and endure.

God is calling all His children of grace through faith in Christ Jesus, to stand on the solid rock of His promises. Everyone who know the truth and reborn in Christ Jesus, should reflect on the Lord's assuring promise, as it is written: “if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land. Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayer that is made in this place. For now I have chosen and consecrated this house that my name may be there forever. My eyes and my heart will be there for all time.” (2 Chronicles 7:14-16 ESV)

Proverbs 28:1 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“The wicked flee when no man pursueth: But the righteous are bold as a lion.” (Proverbs 28:1 KJV)

It started in the garden after man sinned. Running away from God was Adam's reaction as he and Eve heard The Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day. (Genesis 3:8-10)

From then on, guilt from sin - that is life outside the provision of grace by faith in the finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ - continue to haunt the wicked and drive them restless. They are like a debtor constantly looking over their shoulder, fearful that their lender who they are hiding from, might sneak on them. Many kept running away from anything good in the sight God. They run away when they hear God’s word plugged in conversations and interactions. Their conscience constantly hounds them. The Bible says: “But the wicked are like the tossing sea, which cannot rest, whose waves cast up mire and mud. “There is no peace,” says my God, “for the wicked.” (Isaiah 57:20-21 NIV)

In contrast, this passage affirms that the righteous - that is a person in right standing with God in their state of having the Lordship of Jesus Christ in their life - are as nonchalant as the king of the jungle. They stand on solid ground of God's promises, fearless. They have rest secure in the Mighty hands of God. In whatever circumstance they face in life, they are assured God never forsakes them. They have peace! As the Lord promised: I will never leave you not forsake you! (Hebrews 13:5).

Yes, in every challenge in life, as children of God by grace through faith in Christ Jesus, we have this promise to stand on: “Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16 NKJV)

Proverbs 27:23-27 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, And look well to thy herds. For riches are not for ever: And doth the crown endure to every generation? The hay appeareth, and the tender grass sheweth itself, And herbs of the mountains are gathered. The lambs are for thy clothing, And the goats are the price of the field. And thou shalt have goats' milk enough for thy food, for the food of thy household, And for the maintenance for thy maidens.” (Proverbs 27:23-27 KJV)

Wealth, influence and power dissipate in three generations or even less. Seldom, it goes beyond, only when managed well. These passages remind the proper stewardship of the legacies of blessing we are entrusted with, so it can be passed on to continue providing for children and their children. We are to be conscious of the state of our household, like a shepherd to his herd. Ensure that sustaining provisions grow. With the maiden of the home kept in pollyannaish fervor. It should be tended with watchful eyes over changing times and seasons.

Illustrated by a ranch setting, where live stocks are the core of their precious resource and wealth, the rancher diligently gathers the hay at the right time when the grass is tender. The flocks are fed so that the goats supply the milk, the sheep provide for clothing, meat is available to sustain the whole household, and herbs are collected for vibrant and healthy living. This gives the cue that in whatever talent and skills we operate, we are to be earnest and vigilant on it.

Conscious that we are mere stewards of what our Jehovah Jirah, God the Provider entrusted us, resting in grace by faith in Christ Jesus our Lord, we have this assurance from the epistle of Paul: “And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. To our God and Father be glory forever and ever. Amen.” (Philippians 4:19-20 ESV)

Proverbs 27:22 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“Though you grind a fool in a mortar with a pestle along with crushed grain, Yet his foolishness will not depart from him.” (Proverbs 27:22 NKJV)

This passage tells us that fools are hopeless. They are incurable and unfixable. No matter how much you pummel on them like wheat into flour to extract and cast off the undesired chaff. Yes, chaff is extracted from wheat by pounding. But, not for fools, fools are fools. No amount of effort can remove foolishness from fools. Nothing can effectively restore good sense and normality on a fool, let alone make him wise.

Being a fool is a choice. Fools choose to reject God and the saving grace of Jesus. He disdains God's Word of life. That's a painful and tragic decision the foolish person makes. And, even God can't do anything about it other than continue to pursue him by His love. The Lord can't force anything on anyone to choose Him and be the God of their life. He gave every person the power of free will. And He, being just, can't take that free will back. But by our act of free will though, we can choose to surrender our free will back to God. That is the wisest action we can do! Especially, for a fool!

Only the fool himself, by a simple act of choosing to turn to God and rest in the Lordship of Jesus Christ by His grace through faith, can restoration happen in his life. The Bible reminds: “Therefore this is what the Lord says: “If you repent, I will restore you that you may serve me;..” (Jeremiah 15:19a NIV)

The authority of God's Word declares this truth: "The Law of the LORD is perfect, restoring life. The testimony of the LORD is steadfast, making foolish people wise." (Psalms 19:7 ISV)

Proverbs 27:21 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“As the fining pot for silver, and the furnace for gold; So is a man to his praise.” (Proverbs 27:21 KJV)

The Message parallel version says: “The purity of silver and gold is tested by putting them in the fire; The purity of human hearts is tested by giving them a little fame." (Proverbs 27:21 MSG)

The test of praise is a person's refining moment. His reaction reveals the true nature of how his heart is formed. Like the fiery test that reveals what the metal is really like, the test of fame exposes who the man really is. The quality of his values is laid bare!

An award or praise given that puts a person in some kind of a pedestal is in reality a test of character and inner strength. Strong men are humbled by ovation. They don't become big-headed and arrogant. Weak men fall to arrogance with a costly price. Like what happened to Herod in the Bible who received praise from the people. It is written: “On the appointed day Herod, wearing his royal robes, sat on his throne and delivered a public address to the people. They shouted, “This is the voice of a god, not of a man.” Immediately, because Herod did not give praise to God, an angel of the Lord struck him down, and he was eaten by worms and died.”(Acts 12:21-23 NIV)

All praise belongs to God. As His children by grace through faith in Christ Jesus, our consciousness is: He deserves all the honor and praise. Apostle Paul, when he was given praise, he deflects the real praise to God. He declares in 2 Corinthians 10:17, "But, let the one who boasts boast in the Lord." Jesus alone deserves the glory. His name is above all names. Scriptures affirm and remind: “Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2:9-11 ESV)

Proverbs 27:20 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“Hell and destruction are never full; So the eyes of man are never satisfied.” (Proverbs 27:20 KJV)

What an ominous truth it is! Not only that hell is a very glaring reality, there's always room available for anyone who chooses destruction and torment, this passage reveals. And, sadly, the lustful eyes of humanity play in concert to fill it. Yes, that's the irony of it. The desires of the eyes un-checked bring man's own ruin in Hades.

Lord Jesus, out of His much love for us, warned in His Words- “Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.”(1 John 2:15-17 NIV)

Hence, in the presence of the Lord extolling the glory of His face, the psalmist declares- “As for me, I will be vindicated and will see your face; when I awake, I will be satisfied with seeing your likeness.”(Psalms 17:15 NIV)

So, to keep our greedy eyes from drawing us to fill the vacancy in hell, coming to the grace of Christ Jesus by faith is our only way of safety. He is our only source to have contentment and satisfaction. “Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.” (John 6:35 ESV)

Proverbs 27:19 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“As in water face answereth to face, So the heart of man to man.” (Proverbs 27:19 KJV)

This pictures a man looking in the water which reflects his face back to his face. And, it is likened to a man's heart reflecting who he is as a man. As you look into stirred water you see a crumpled blurry reflection of you. And, on a still water you see a placid image of your face. This illustration tells us that when the state of the heart is heavy, it can be seen in the expressions of a man's face and manifest by his body language.

A troubled heart glares in the countenance of a person in many ways. Hence, it is of the utmost to guard our heart, be prayerful always and be at peace. Regularly reflect upon the holy and written Word of God, which is symbolized by water, as well (John 7:38). God's Word, who is Jesus Himself (John 1:1; John 1:14), through apostle Paul reminds: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7 NIV)

And, in Christ Jesus, in His Lordship by grace through faith, we have this comforting promise: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” (John 14:27 ESV)

Proverbs 27:18 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“Whoso keepeth the fig tree shall eat the fruit thereof: So he that waiteth on his master shall be honoured.” (Proverbs 27:18 KJV)

Affirming the system of seed time and harvest that God sets in motion in the beginning, this should refresh our excitement in what we do with zeal. We will eat the fruits of our labors! Scriptures exhort: “So let us not become tired of doing good; for if we do not give up, the time will come when we will reap the harvest.” (Galatians 6:9 GNT)

So in all that we do, we mirror on the analogy of tending the fig tree to eat its fruit, with the knowledge that in Christ Jesus we are workers in God's Kingdom. We are to be vigilant to serve the best we can everywhere and every time. We keep our eyes focused on Jesus our Master, as when we do, we are promised - “It will be good for those servants whose master finds them watching when he comes. Truly I tell you, he will dress himself to serve, will have them recline at the table and will come and wait on them.” (Luke 12:37 NIV)

Yes, in our daily grind for living, a honcho may be keeping a watchful eye on us. But, truly, we are serving a higher authority. This exhortation from Apostle Paul, should keep us in check doing our chores. It is written: “Bondservants, obey in everything those who are your earthly masters, not by way of eye-service, as people-pleasers, but with sincerity of heart, fearing the Lord. Whatever you do, work heartily as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.” (Colossians 3:22-24 ESV)

Proverbs 27:17 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“Iron sharpeneth iron; So a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.” (Proverbs 27:17 KJV)

The good side of friction is what this analogy aims to bring home in. This reminds of its benefits when tackled in the right setting - that is pursuit of truth to strengthen our faith guided by the Spirit of the Lord. This leads us back to Bible times when warfare was fought with swords, of which after every battle, soldiers - as they rest in their camp, sharpen their swords by rubbing them to another on the right angle and in opposing direction. This picture conveys that on the same manner we sharpen each other's countenance with loved ones and friends when we rub meditations and reflections of God's Words, in the setting of God's presence, as we camp in our worship of Him.

Hence, this brings to light the importance of wise people around us of whom we can bounce thoughts and revelations with, honing our vision to the future hope that God designed for our lives. Scripture says: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.(Jeremiah 29:11 NIV)"

We need our friends and loved ones to sharpen our demeanor to stay rooted trusting The Lord and walk wisely in our conduct of living. As God’s children by grace through faith in Christ Jesus, it is essential to propel us to our Godly-designed future. We listen! And, we remain mindful of this reminder and warning: “Become wise by walking with the wise; hang out with fools and watch your life fall to pieces.” (Proverbs 13:20 MSG)

Proverbs 27:15-16 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“A continual dropping in a very rainy day And a contentious woman are alike. Whosoever hideth her hideth the wind, And the ointment of his right hand, which bewrayeth itself.” (Proverbs 27:15-16 KJV)

This may seem biased against women knowing that Solomon, the man used by God to put this into words, was a man of many wives. But, it should be kept in mind, that the true author of this passage is the Spirit of God, as "All Scripture is God breathe" (2 Timothy 3:16).

This is therefore a warning of the reality, that in this world, there are women - and men too, who behave as such. Some people are just plain contentious - built in their system. And, this passage puts us in the know they are like a continuous drip, drip, drip of a leaky roof on a rainy day. A nagging nuisance indeed, it is. And, attempting to stop it is like grasping the wind and catching oil. Hence, this is a pop-up alert for us to find the way to avert such a place of tension. It's an irritant no one desires.

So, we should seek that sublime place of peace and rest. That place is in our Lord Jesus Christ, by receiving His gift of salvation through faith. He invites us. “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”(Matthew 11:28-30 NIV)

And, He promised: “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”” (John 16:33 ESV)

Proverbs 27:14 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“He that blesseth his friend with a loud voice, rising early in the morning, It shall be counted a curse to him.” (Proverbs 27:14 KJV)

Simply said, this passage declares: “If you wake your friend in the early morning by shouting “Rise and shine!” It will sound to him more like a curse than a blessing.”(Proverbs 27:14 MSG)

This exhorts us to be sensitive towards the comfort and well-being of others. We ought not be an early morning nuisance. Regardless of one's good intention, expressions of blessings and encouragements to uplift one's spirit, if done ill-timed and in vulgarity would make it come like a revilement.

But, there's no such thing as right time, though. Each of us belongs to either the group whose lives revolve around their schedules or those whose schedules revolve around their lives. Each one has his own timing and mood. And, with present hi-tech environment, everyone operates at varied times. And, the mood swings! Who knows when is it right? But, one best feature of our present tools is that we can communicate anytime. Just set the silent mode of our gadgets. Then, at our best mood or timing, go through it so as to enjoy the blessings and love our messages bring. Even in our worst moments, with prayers, we get comfort from messages drawn from the living Word of God as we rest in our quite time of solitude with God.

The truth of the matter is, no one can see the state of each other's emotions and hearts. Good timing is really out of the question. Being born again in the spirit, we just have to take the leap of faith and express our blessings and love, sensitive to the promptings of the Holy Spirit. And, as the recipient of it, we rest always in God’s grace by faith in Christ Jesus and let the Lord work on it in our hearts. It is in Christ's love that we are refreshed and reminded every day, as it is written: “Be careful then, dear brothers and sisters. Make sure that your own hearts are not evil and unbelieving, turning you away from the living God. You must warn each other every day, while it is still “today,” so that none of you will be deceived by sin and hardened against God. For if we are faithful to the end, trusting God just as firmly as when we first believed, we will share in all that belongs to Christ.” (Hebrews 3:12-14 NLT)

Proverbs 27:13 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“Take his garment that is surety for a stranger, And take a pledge of him for a strange woman.” (Proverbs 27:13 KJV)

We are in a very morally bankrupt world. It is becoming like a jungle. Everyone is a target, a prey, and up for grabs by a prowling stranger, a deceptive neighbor, even a purported friend or a strange woman – one who strays away from her home. Hence, this is a cue of the need for us to rest in the protection of grace by faith in Christ Jesus our Lord, and be wise. Lest we fall and be held surety by unknown elements. There's dire and harsh consequence out of the shelter of God's grace, as this passage tacitly warns.

Signaling the importance of this reminder, it echoes Proverbs 20:16 “Take his garment that is surety for a stranger: And take a pledge of him for a strange woman.”

The same theme of reminders are also stressed strongly in earlier passages:

Proverbs 6:1-2 NIV

“My son, if you have put up security for your neighbor, if you have shaken hands in pledge for a stranger, you have been trapped by what you said, ensnared by the words of your mouth.”

Proverbs 11:15 NIV
“Whoever puts up security for a stranger will surely suffer, but whoever refuses to shake hands in pledge is safe.”

Proverbs 17:18 NIV
“One who has no sense shakes hands in pledge and puts up security for a neighbor.”

Proverbs 22:26 NIV
“Do not be one who shakes hands in pledge or puts up security for debts;”

For anyone in such a dilemma - caught up in a blind and thoughtless commitment, the wisdom of the Lord's holy and written Words give this imperative counsel: “...Friend, don’t waste a minute, get yourself out of that mess. You’re in that man’s clutches! Go, put on a long face; act desperate. Don’t procrastinate— there’s no time to lose. Run like a deer from the hunter, fly like a bird from the trapper!” (Proverbs 6:3-5 MSG)

Proverbs 27:12 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“A prudent man foresees evil and hides himself; The simple pass on and are punished.” (Proverbs 27:12 NKJV)

Naivety is not an excuse, for wading into murky waters of evil. It doesn't excuse anyone from the penalty of it - with the dangers lurking in that treacherous abyss and the consequences for wicked ways. The more so with idiocy, knowing the grave eternal ramifications of it, but still behave with contempt towards God and His love. This passage reminds that we have a choice to behave and act cunningly and wisely.

Like a prudent man, we profile our day to day encounters and choices guided by the holy and written Word of God. We veer away from evil. And, we dwell in the shelter of the Most High God, in grace by faith in Christ Jesus. We look unto Him our defender as the Psalmist declared - “But my eyes are toward you, O God, my Lord; in you I seek refuge; leave me not defenseless! Keep me from the trap that they have laid for me and from the snares of evildoers! Let the wicked fall into their own nets, while I pass by safely.” (Psalm 141:8-10 ESV)

Proverbs 27:11 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“My son, be wise, and make my heart glad, That I may answer him who reproaches me.” (Proverbs 27:11 NKJV)

This is a cry of a parent to a child to be wise. What father wouldn’t want his son (or daughter) to be wise? Wisdom teaches obedience and diligence. By wisdom, one acknowledges that the world and all that is in it is the Lord's (Psalms 24:1-2) and we are just stewards of what is bestowed with us (1 Peter 4:10). God's Wisdom teaches the value of blessings and good stewardship of it. Wisdom teaches to trust in the Lord and the power of our declaration of God's promises upon our lives through faith in Christ Jesus. And, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. For through wisdom your days will be many, and years will be added to your life.”(Proverbs 9:10-11 NIV)

Parents' hearts leap with joy seeing that their children make wise decisions—walking with the Lord—and behave with a discerning heart and spirit. Talking about those he discipled, Apostle John said, “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth." (3 John 1:4)

Like it or not, in the eyes of many, a child’s behavior reflects on the parent. And, in the spiritual realm as a child of God, it reflects upon our Heavenly Father. Children's greatest honor to bestow upon their parents and God is to gain wisdom and walk in the Lord’s grace, by faith in Jesus. Children are parents' greatest joy and blessings. “Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one’s youth. Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them! He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.” (Psalm 127:4-5 ESV)

Proverbs 27:10 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“Thine own friend, and thy father's friend, forsake not; Neither go into thy brother's house in the day of thy calamity: For better is a neighbour that is near than a brother far off.” (Proverbs 27:10 KJV)

At first read, this passage seems to pit family against friends. But, reflecting upon it deeper, reveals that it is just a statement of fact. There are times of urgency for physical comfort and help that friends and neighbors close by are the only available options for support, especially when families are far away. This reminder is a signal to expand the core of our relationships. In this changing world living environment, each one moves to pursue the dreams, pursuits and talents given them where opportunities arise. Even during the agrarian era, the search for greener pastures sets families far from each other.

Generational friends and neighbors are not designed to replace family. In some instances, they are only for a season - a-here-today-gone- tomorrow. Looking back, we can see that in our journey. Some may be there in seasons and out of seasons, like a family. Those are the core of friends to build on and nurture. Not to replace, but, as extension of family. Family has a special bond that runs deep in our veins worthy to honor and value in this complex ever-diverging world. This we nurture as we rest awaiting for the Day of our Lord’s coming or when we transcend to the home God prepared for us in Christ Jesus our Lord.

As children of God's grace in Christ Jesus by faith, He reminds us that the truth of His holy and written Words stand unchanged forever. It is written: “Friends love through all kinds of weather, and families stick together in all kinds of trouble.” (Proverbs 17:17 MSG)

Proverbs 27:9 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart: So doth the sweetness of a man's friend by hearty counsel.” (Proverbs 27:9 KJV)

This is such a very reassuring reminder that a hearty counsel of a friend is indeed like the soothing sweetness of ointment and perfume. It brings pleasure to an aching heart. Friends are blessings both in times of need and ease. They bring comfort during stormy seasons of life and their presence in times of celebration lifts one’s heart higher. Their counsels are fragrant aroma in a room filled with musty smell of burden. The scent of their presence lifts the blanket of smoke in a murky air of trouble.

Yes, the mere presence of friends matter, like the three friends of Job during his time of torment. “When Job’s three friends, Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite, heard about all the troubles that had come upon him, they set out from their homes and met together by agreement to go and sympathize with him and comfort him. When they saw him from a distance, they could hardly recognize him; they began to weep aloud, and they tore their robes and sprinkled dust on their heads. Then they sat on the ground with him for seven days and seven nights. No one said a word to him, because they saw how great his suffering was.”(Job 2:11-13 NIV)

And, we have such a better friend in our Lord Jesus Christ who loves us. He gave His life on the cross for us. As we receive His Lordship in our heart, by grace through faith in Him, He assures us with this refreshing declaration: “No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you. You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you.” (John 15:15-16 ESV)

Proverbs 27:8 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“As a bird that wandereth from her nest, So is a man that wandereth from his place.” (Proverbs 27:8 KJV)

This passage should be a specific reminder to men, using the analogy of a bird straying away from its nest. Or, most specifically this passage indicates, to "her" – the women of the house, as we noticed in some instances in this day and age. This is addressed to us all! A nest is a young bird's secure place of refuge. A father or a mother bird wandering away from it puts the young ones out of the protection of its parents and makes it a helpless prey to awaiting predators. Wandering is an un-thought act, or action thought out contrary to common sense that aligns with the purpose of the nest - a secure home. It is not about leaving the nest for the right reason of gathering food or for a grown up bird to start on its own. This is addressed to those who left and forgot their address to return. This is such a great analogy for the broken families of today. Wandering, almost so often ends in a life squandered. A life designed for a great calling is wasted due to thoughtless wandering.

Addressed to men and women, God wants men to be MEN and women to be WOMEN! And, they should not wander from home. In this present age, it has become casual for many to walk away from their commitments - from their vows to God and to their bride and groom - much like the bird wandering from its nest - many are caught . . . trapped . . . hunted and captured by regrets. Many young children growing without a father and a mother lost their sense of belonging. For the young ones, left in the home by "wandering" providers, they’re left unprotected and un-nurtured to be who they should be.

This must stop! It starts by receiving the Lordship of our Lord Jesus Christ and heeding this call from the epistle of Apostle Paul to the Ephesians: “Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself." (Ephesians 5:21-30 ESV)
