When God Says …
“Jesus therefore again groaning in himself cometh to the grave. It was a cave, and a stone lay upon it. Jesus said, Take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith unto him, Lord, by this time he stinketh: for he hath been dead four days.” (John 11:38-39 KJV).
The reality of Lazarus' death — the agonizing absence of a friend, the disappointment, the pain, the death, grave, and stench — now in the brink of something unexpected, being in the midst of it is a plain display of courage and resolve. Lazarus is four days gone. His tomb is shut. His body stinks. His sisters are disappointed by Jesus' delay and absence. All those close to Lazarus grieve his passing. All these realities, however, must give way to a greater reality for the glory of God, so the Son may be glorified through it! (John 11:4).
The Lord Jesus Christ, the Light of world is in the vicinity of a dark sealed tomb. And, He is life everlasting to those who believe (John 3:36). Yes, the grave stinks. The body of Lazarus is in the process of rotting to return to dust. That's the bitter realities of death, even in this supernatural event beginning to unfold with this family - beloved of the Lord. As the Lord Jesus orders the stone seal of the tomb rolled, He is declaring to unseal what keeps people's heart in the dark. He is signaling us to let the light of truth to come in. Let's be reminded: “Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”” (John 8:12 ESV).
And I say, AMEN!
