The Gospel of Luke 10:13-14 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon, which have been done in you, they had a great while ago repented, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. But it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment, than for you.” (Luke 10:13-14 KJV).

In these passages, the Lord gives direct warning of woe to Chorazin
and Bethsaida that stubborn unrepentant cities, as they are who have heard and seen the signs from heaven done in their midst, are judged for rejecting His message and "mighty works". Their rejection is their self condemnation. A rejection, rooted in misconception of the law and reliance on their own performance, leads to unbearable consequence at the day of judgement. The Lord says that the gentile cities of Sidon and Tyre would have profoundly repented - sitting in sack cloths and ashes (an old Jewish symbol of deep remorse) had the miracles and signs been done in their midst instead. This statement points to the truth that by the New Covenant of Grace, if the same message has been proclaimed in the gentile cities of Sidon and Tyre they would accepted. With all the miracles manifest in the religion influenced cities of Chorazin and Bethsaida, those two gentile cities would have believed. In God’s grace through the finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ, all are saved by faith alone, not by works of self effort to observe the law.

These passages, therefore, remind us in the now - in this post resurrection time of the Lord’s dispensation of grace, that His work on the cross is finished and complete. Now, we can come in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ as we are in the truest sense of authenticity and in the posture of receiving. We have the knowledge that the blessings of healing, provision, and righteousness are not earned but are received by grace, through faith in Him because of what He accomplished on the cross. We must therefore keep this rooted in our being, Scriptures declare: “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9 ESV).

And I say, AMEN!
