The Gospel of Luke 10:16 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“He that heareth you heareth me; and he that despiseth you despiseth me; and he that despiseth me despiseth him that sent me.” (Luke 10:16 KJV).

This passage is basically the final parting words of our Lord Jesus to the Seventy plus disciples He sent ahead to the cities, towns and villages to prepare for His arrival. This warns them of the mix responses they will encounter. They will be heard and will be despised. This also established that the authority and message of His disciples are directly connected to the Lord Himself and to God the Father, setting a chain of divine authority. By listening to the disciples is in fact listening to the Lord Jesus, while rejecting them is a rejection of both the Lord Jesus and the Father who sent Him.

The Seventy Two disciples are sent with full authority to speak and act on the Lord’s behalf. The message they carry is not their own, but the Lord’s - with His divine authority behind it. Hence, they are being prepared how to react to both acceptance and rejection by the people they encounter. So, for us now, the contemporary disciples of the Lord Jesus that receive His Words and saved by grace through faith, this verse provides encouragement in the face of opposition. This lets us know that struggles faced for our faith are ultimately not a personal attack, but a reflection of the religious people's rejection to both the Lord’s message of grace and the Father’s love.

This, therefore, reminds us all - children of God in Christ Jesus, of the reality in this world. And, He reassures us with these words: “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”” (John 16:33 ESV).

And I say, AMEN!
