The Gospel of Luke 9:61-62 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee; but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at home at my house. And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.” (Luke 9:61-62 KJV).

In these passages, again the Lord Jesus reminds us with the importance of our Kingdom commitment, highlighting the common hindrances of needless ‘buts’. Nothing, absolutely nothing, must stand in the way of the overarching call to follow the Lord Jesus Christ. Using the illustration of a farmer ploughing, we are to surmount looking yonder and press forward, full speed ahead. When distractions come and stray our way, and when we trip and fall, we must rise again, point our hearts in the direction of Christ Jesus and the Kingdom of God, and continue on.

Our calling as a reborn children of God by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ is heavenly set. It is a forward and upward calling. It is not a call to return to the old ways, the old values, and the old habits. There is No turning back! Turning back, like what Judas Iscariot did, is catastrophic with eternal ramification. Our resolve must be to go full steam ahead! Sin, death, and defeat must be left behind. No looking back even glancing over the rearview mirror. To be with the Lord Jesus Christ with glory in His Kingdom, lies ahead. Again, there is NO turning back, because our charge to and for service in the Kingdom of God means that we are bound for glory.

Like Apostle Peter, even as he fails, he remain resting in the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. Yes, we too, not be self effort of trying hard as religion teaches, but in Christ Jesus we rest by His grace through faith in Him, “The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him. For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.” (Romans 8:16-18 ESV).

And I say, AMEN!
