When God Says …
“And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.” (Luke 10:17 KJV).
The second tier of seventy plus disciples are chronicled in this passage as having returned from their mission joyful as they were able to exercise expelling demons with power. They went out to every cities and towns preparing for the Lord’s arrival with authority and power, the Lord Jesus bestowed on them, over the forces of darkness, to heal the sick and to cast out devils. Their ability to cast out demons was a sign of the nearness of the kingdom of God and foreshadows the ultimate defeat of Satan.
The disciples are rejoicing in the tone of celebration for the outcome of their mission. Their exclamatory declarations show they came to a deeper sense of understanding and realization of the power that the Lord Jesus had given them. They are made aware of the power of His name. Their success was not due to their own strength but was a direct result of acting "in His name," (John 14:12-14) meaning under the authority and power of the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Scriptures affirm that: “Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2:9-11 ESV).
And I say, AMEN!
