The Gospel of Luke 10:21 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes: even so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight.” (Luke 10:21 KJV).

This passage of the Lord's exultation addressed directly to the Father, Lord of heaven and earth, confirms God’s way of revealing Himself and His Kingdom. He reveals not to the earthly wise, proud, and intellectuals who can be people that are blind to spiritual realities, as seen with the religious leaders - Pharisees, priests and scribes (Mathew 23:17-24). He reveals to those who humbly receive His Son - Christ Jesus and His grace. He chose fishermen as His first disciples. He chose not the religious and the worldly “scholars” who rely on their own wisdom and understanding or works. It is humility and total dependence in the Lord’s grace that enable a deeper, more joyful experience and knowledge of Him by faith.

This exultation follows the return of the 72 disciples, who were amazed by how their authority over demons worked. The Lord Jesus reframes their success, pointing to them the greater victory of salvation and having their names written in heaven. Then, He thanks the Father for choosing to reveal His deepest truths through humble dependence on Him, rather than through human wisdom or self-sufficiency. This is exemplified by the Lord's own relationship with the Father and the blessing He bestows on those who believe in Him.

For our comfort in this post resurrection dispensation of His grace, as children of God in Christ, the Holy Scriptures remind: “But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human being might boast in the presence of God. And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption, so that, as it is written, “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.”” (1 Corinthians 1:27-31 ESV).

And I say, AMEN!
