When God Says …
“and heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.” (Luke 10:9 KJV).
We see in this passage the Lord Jesus continues His command to His advance party of seventy plus disciples. They’re given a mission of compassion and clear mandate to proclaim God’s coming Kingdom, to prepare the people of every town they enter for His arrival. They are to physically heal the sick in the town they enter and stay as a tangible expression of God's mercy and power. They are to announce that the reign and sovereignty of the Kingdom of God has come in Christ Jesus, and that they - the people, can now enter it through grace by faith in Him.
The Lord's specific instruction that "The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you" is a loaded assertion that the Kingdom of God is both imminent and accessible, though not physically manifest yet. But it is powerfully and spiritually present in Christ Jesus. This is, therefore, an urgent directive for all of us, who are redeemed and reborn in spirit by grace through faith in Christ, and have seen God’s glory in Christ, to continue the mission of spreading the message of salvation and demonstrate the kingdom, driven by love and compassion. It is not driven by religion like we watch happening in our present and past worlds. We sadly watch many deceived by religious enterprises shaped in precepts concocted by humans and influenced by the politics and cultures, and even sciences of the world.
The love that drives us is not that of the world which is erratic, relative and changing by winds of time. It is the Love that is of God and who is God Himself in us (1 John 4:8). It is the Love that the world will know but resists. The Lord Jesus Christ commands us to love as He loves us. He declares in His Words: “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”” (John 13:34-35 ESV).
And I say, AMEN!
