When God Says …
“The people answered him, We have heard out of the law that Christ abideth for ever: and how sayest thou, The Son of man must be lifted up? who is this Son of man?” (John 12:34 KJV).
In this passage, we see the people along with the Greeks who sought to see the Lord Jesus Christ declaring truth from the writings of the prophets and the law. Christ the Messiah who is God from the beginning abides forever. These people are confused though, unable to grasp the Lord's revelation of Himself as the Son of Man, God who came down from heaven to be like us - fully human. He will be lifted up to die on the cross to bring us into reconciliation with Himself. This mystery is beyond theirs and our limited mind to fathom. His thoughts and ways are higher than ours (Isaiah 55:8-9), for He is God and we are not. But with our faith in Him, by His love, will lead us to see Him as who He is and we shall be with Him forever (1 John 3:1-3).
Who is this Son of Man? By our faith in Christ Jesus, He reveals Himself to you and I. The Lord Jesus asked the disciples this question once, and as they believed, the Father revealed the truth to them. This was made clear by Apostle Peter's response. It is written: “Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” And they said, “Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 16:13-17 ESV).
And I say, AMEN!
