When God Says …
“Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he was come from God, and went to God; he riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself. After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded.” (John 13:3-5 KJV).Our Lord Jesus Christ, well aware of who He is, tells us, His disciples, the religious people and the crowds who strained to do things for men and constantly sought the high places of honor, to flee from these kind of pursuits of empty glory. We find in one of the His teachings that He said: "The greatest among you will be your servant. For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted." (Matthew 23:11-12 (NIV).
Apostle Paul also exhorts us to have the mind of a servant as the Lord Jesus demonstrated in these passages. We must be ready to roll our sleeves up to render service, girded with towel and water in hand do the lowliest yet honorable work for others. Wash some feet! It is written: “You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross. Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2:5-11 NLT).
And in another setting, our Lord Jesus Christ taught the disciples: “When you are invited by someone to a wedding feast, do not sit down in a place of honor, lest someone more distinguished than you be invited by him, and he who invited you both will come and say to you, ‘Give your place to this person,’ and then you will begin with shame to take the lowest place. But when you are invited, go and sit in the lowest place, so that when your host comes he may say to you, ‘Friend, move up higher.’ Then you will be honored in the presence of all who sit at table with you. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”” (Luke 14:8-11 ESV).
And I say, AMEN!
