The Gospel of Luke 1:56 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

 When God Says …

“And Mary abode with her about three months, and returned to her own house.” (Luke 1:56 KJV).

We have just been given the privilege to watch these two blessed women at their contrasting state of being extremely old and young to miraculously bear a child. They both needed affirmation and comfort. What best way to do it together leaning on each other in such a time of both joyful excitement and challenge. Being human of natural emotions, Elizabeth must be anxious as to how to face this in her naturally weakening body. And with the confused thoughts of their neighbors and relatives, it is reasonable for her to stay in seclusion. Hence, no better person who understands her to come and give her comfort like Mary, who herself needed someone to lean on too. Bound by the same Spirit with in them, Mary’s presence with Elizabeth until her delivery was her source of strength, and provide Mary with useful experience to deal with and prepare for her own upcoming delivery, as well.

Hence, Mary left for home when John the Baptist was born, with Elizabeth’s mission fully completed as the Angel Gabriel proclaimed to Zacharias: “Do not be afraid, Zechariah; your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you are to call him John.” (Luke 1:13 NIV). With the preparation she gathered during her stay with her cousin, Mary in her young age for motherhood is now equipped to get home to welcome the upcoming birth of the Son of God.

Mary and Elizabeth’s example of comforting each other is a reminder for us to not neglect caring for each other in confusing times we face. Together, like them with the Spirit of God in them, we too are to comfort together with the Lord Jesus Christ in us. With our faith in Him, the Lord Jesus, promised: “For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.”” (Matthew 18:20 ESV).

And I say, AMEN!
