When God Says …
“And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser: she was of a great age, and had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity; and she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day. And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem.” (Luke 2:36-38 KJV).
In these passages we see Anna who's eighty four years a widow who had lost her husband early, but not her hope. She was deprived from the life of her dreams, but kept her ability to dream alive. Life can be hard for most of us, if not all, if we're being honest about it. Some people get hit with crushing wounds early in their journey. These wounds don't have to destroy their lives. While people may carry the memory and the scars through all of their years, God can be their sufficiency and strength, just as He was for Anna. Her walk with God stands up along with Elijah and Enoch.
She found God sufficient for her needs and worthy of her praise. God gave her the delight of her life and an opportunity to do what the prophets had foretold — "Your sons and daughters will prophesy." (Joel 2:28). She was privileged to declare the arrival of the Messiah to everyone in the Temple. What a long wait she had! What a glorious finale! What an awesome privilege to culminate a journey in Christ! Come to think of it, we have the privilege of declaring Jesus, too!
With joyful attitude akin with Asher’s tribe by faith in Christ Jesus, we inherit as we age like Anna did the same blessings declared upon Asher. It is written: “And of Asher he said, “Most blessed of sons be Asher; let him be the favorite of his brothers, and let him dip his foot in oil. Your bars shall be iron and bronze, and as your days, so shall your strength be.” (Deuteronomy 33:24-25 ESV).
And I say, AMEN!
