When God Says …
“As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets, which have been since the world began: That we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us; To perform the mercy promised to our fathers, And to remember his holy covenant;” (Luke 1:70-72 KJV).
These passages are part of a song of worship, by Zacharias the father of the herald named John, the son they have in their old age (Luke 1:13-14). His words of praise emphasize how God's promises, as given through His prophets, have always come to pass. The world has seen the fulfillment of prophecies and will soon see more (Luke 1:39–45). It is a good reason to worship. Also it comes with great joy, as the role of the Messiah, being heralded, will be that of a Savior (Luke 1:71).
Citing Psalm 106:9-10, which celebrates the intervention of God for Israel at the Red Sea (Psalm 106:7–9; Exodus 14:28–30), those were both literal rescue from slavery and a powerful metaphor of humanity's spiritual salvation from sin and death (Galatians 4:3–5). It assures and proves that God's promises to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob were true. John, the new born son of Zacharias is chosen to herald the promised "horn" of salvation. He is the person of grace, Christ Jesus our Lord.
Fulfillment of prophecies inspires celebration, like Zacharias is rejoicing with a song of worship having been made part of it by the birth of his son John who heralds the Savior. He is remembering God's holy promise through the words of his song. The same attitude we should have now in this time of grace being dispensed through the power of our Savior's resurrection. As God's children by faith in Him, let us celebrate and exalt the Lord Jesus Christ. Now being redeemed by faith in Him, the hour has come as the Lord Jesus said: “But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”” (John 4:23-24 ESV).
And I say, AMEN!
