The Gospel of Luke 2:25-26 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him. And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord's Christ.” (Luke 2:25-26 KJV).

Simeon should count as one of our favorite Bible examples. He’s described as: "just and devout." What a great way to be portrayed and called! He was doing something many of us don't like to do: "Waiting". He was waiting to see God's Messiah. As much as Simeon can be described as justly and devoutly waiting, a greater truth defines his life: the Holy Spirit. Luke described the glorious moment when Simeon meets "the Messiah" (Luke 2:26) in the power of the Holy Spirit's work in Simeon — "the Holy Spirit was upon him" (Luke 2:25), "It’s been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit." (Luke 2:26).

Of all the descriptions of Simeon that could apply to you and I, our deepest hope in life should be defined by the gracious presence, transformative power, and holy work of the Spirit of God within us. Let’s thank God for men and women in the Holy Bible who could be active influencers in our lives like Simeon: who are righteous and devout not by their self-effort but by faith resting in grace totally dependent on Christ Jesus our Lord. Let’s be like them: waiting for God's easement, and guided in every way by the presence of the Holy Spirit. We just wait like Simeon, whose name means ‘God hears’. In our waiting, God hears!

We must always be conscious that the Lord Jesus Christ gave us this promise: “When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you. All that the Father has is mine; therefore I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.” (John 16:13-15 ESV).

And I say, AMEN!
