When God Says …
“Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:” (Luke 6:37 KJV).
In this passage, the Lord Jesus is not revealing a hypothetical option. He is exposing a problem that has plagued our petty and vindictive humanity from the time Adam ceded dominion over the earth to Satan when he ate the forbidden fruit of the tree in the midst of the garden (Genesis 3).
The Lord Jesus, who is the person of grace, came at a time when the Jewish people was very focused on the strict adherence to their religious laws, rules and traditions. They lost sight of God’s grace. In the midst of religious activities in a very sinful world, just like we have in this present age, they were vindictive to one another. There was often a great deal of judgment and condemnation directed towards those who were perceived as breaking these laws or not in adherent to their views. Like we have nowadays in a world looking to their many gods in their many religions, we see people profiling and cancelling each other. The Lord Jesus challenges this attitude by urging us who see the truth, be born again (John 3:3) and receive His Lordship in our life, to be set apart. We are to give mercy and forgiveness, rather than judgment and condemnation.
Yes, if so ever we make declarations on others, it should neither be judgement nor condemnation. It rather be words of redirection, knowledge of truth, of acclamation and of blessings. It should be to forgive, to rebuild and to restore. For there is power in the words you and I speak. It is written, the Lord Jesus said: “The good person out of his good treasure brings forth good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure brings forth evil. I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak, for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.””(Matthew 12:35-37 ESV).
And I say, AMEN!
