“The Son of man is come eating and drinking; and ye say, Behold a gluttonous man, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners! But wisdom is justified of all her children.” (Luke 7:34-35 KJV).
In these passages, the Lord Jesus reminds us how preposterous are the complaints of His religious enemies. When "The Son of man is come eating and drinking; and ye say, Behold, a gluttonous man, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners!" Yet, He loves them. The religious stiffness of the Pharisees and priests failed them to recognize the presence of the Messiah. Only with our spiritual eyes opened by grace through believing, this shows us the radical love and acceptance that the Lord embodies, and calls us to emulate in our daily lives. But His enemies were quick to judge Him based on appearances. They label Him based on their narrow religious view of goodness and righteousness. The Lord Jesus is the embodiment of Him being full of grace and truth (John 1:14). And this truth we must always hold strongly in our hearts.
The true children of God - that is by grace through faith in Christ Jesus, live life wisely, manifest from the inside out. It is not a life of trying hard to do in self-effort, pressured by religious rigmaroles. Resting in total reliance of the Lord's grace, by wisdom built within through the spirit of the Word and led by the Holy Spirit, much fruit is produced in the life of those who believe. Having been born again in spirit, being a branch connected to the vine - who is the Lord Jesus Christ, we are made wiser and we flourish. Wisdom is justified though us! This, the Lord Jesus proclaims and affirms, He says: “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5 ESV).
And I say, AMEN!
