The Gospel of Luke 6:38 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.” (Luke 6:38 KJV).

Reflecting on this passage, there are two conspicuous areas we can identify where many of us can be parsimonious. One is money or material things and the other is forgiveness. Hence after teaching the apostles and the disciples in the hearing of the crowd, and in our reflections of the preceding verses about compassion, grace and generosity, the Lord Jesus now sums it up with these several areas of truth.

* Our blessings come out exponentially (pressed down, shaken and overflowing) of the blessings we extend on others; and

* The measure we use on forgiving, judging and treating others will be the basis used for how we are forgiven, judged and treated by others in this life, and on the final days by God.

God has been so gracious with us. We can either share that graciousness or abuse and hoard it. Grace is wonderful and free until we lock it in the closet and take it off our relationship circulation. If we withhold, impede or remove God's grace from our social circuit, it becomes damaged, lost with us and lost to us. This text’s stern warning reminds us again how serious God is in regard with our empathy, forgiveness and generosity with the people around us.

In essence, this passage is warning us that what we do on to others around us has far-reaching boomerang effect on us. Our action will certainly produce its intended results on ourselves - good or bad, in accordance with the seed we sow. As children of God in Christ Jesus by grace through faith, we must not lost sight of resting in grace. We must totally depend on the guidance of the Holy Spirit and be always in the light of God's words in every step we take in God's system of seedtime and harvest. Not the direction of religious system of dos and don'ts. We are warned: “Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” (Galatians 6:7-9 ESV).

And I say, AMEN!
