The Gospel of Luke 7:18-19 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“And the disciples of John shewed him of all these things. And John calling unto him two of his disciples sent them to Jesus, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another?” (Luke 7:18-19 KJV).

The Lord Jesus Christ was and is the only flesh and blood "Bible character" and person who walked on this planet sinless. Every other Bible figures were imperfect. They’re just like us. They have bad days, doubts, lapses of passion, or faith dilemmas. They too have feet of clay. They waver in their walk. But they always remain grounded in faith. They stray but always return to where they should be in the presence of the Lord. Even John the Baptist, whom the Lord Jesus declares as no one greater born of woman (Matthew 11:11), with all of his passion and integrity, wanted to know for sure that the Lord Jesus was the One who he was preparing the way for. The sign manifested by the Lord Jesus of what John the Baptist prophesied was different from what John the Baptist expected, viewing from afar. Now imprisoned by Herod and in the slate for execution, he needed affirmation.

That’s the virtue that John the Baptist holds on to. He seeks the truth, in his moments of confusion. So often, when we have doubts, we can let the doubts overtake us, and we sulk afraid or even cease to seek the truth. The Lord Jesus never discouraged truth seekers! He was not afraid to answer questions from his critics, the skeptics, or even his followers like Thomas or Peter who at times doubted and strayed. In your struggles, you will no doubt pass through a dark valley or two of doubt or confusion. Don't be afraid. Just be honest with the Lord Jesus about your struggles. Stay being who you are, as authentic as you can and should be. That can be exactly where you find the Lord. He is there waiting for the seeker who honestly comes to Him with questions for truths and of doubts or even of ignorance or lack of understanding. The Lord Jesus awaits those who humble to come and seek.

One such great example of a true seeker of truth is Nicodemus (John 3:1-15). He is one of the religious Pharisees who are mostly arrogant and hateful. But, he humbles and put himself and his position on the line of hatred from his fellow Pharisees to come see the Lord Jesus, one night. In their interaction the Lord Jesus tells him that a man must be born again to see the kingdom of God, which he doesn’t understand. But undeterred, he follows through with another question to seek the truth. He is such a great example to emulate to continue seeking the truth of God’s Words, recognizing that the truth of God’s word moves us from where we are to where God wants us to be. It is written: “Nicodemus said to him, “How can these things be?” Jesus answered him, “Are you the teacher of Israel and yet you do not understand these things? Truly, truly, I say to you, we speak of what we know, and bear witness to what we have seen, but you do not receive our testimony. If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how can you believe if I tell you heavenly things? No one has ascended into heaven except he who descended from heaven, the Son of Man. And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.” (John 3:9-15 ESV).

And I say, AMEN!
