When God Says …
“Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like: he is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.” (Luke 6:47-48 KJV).
In these passages, the Lord Jesus describes one who hears His words and does them as a man who, when building his house, digs his foundation deeply upon the rock. When flood comes, and it will, the house remains intact on its firm and secure base. This metaphor in the parable of a man's character is likened to a house. Unless we build our character on the rock-solid foundation of God's holy and written Word, we will surely be swept away by the flood and storm of devious schemes now inundating the world. Scriptures say, "For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ (I Corinthians 3:11)."
We are given in this analogy a house builder we are expected to identify with. He is a wise man who intentionally plans his house with an eye to withstand the storms sure to pass through. He is circumspect and deliberate in digging deep to ensure having a strong foundation. The flood will come and storms will come to beat the house. It is not a matter of if. It is a matter of when.
The flood and storms obviously are the trials of life. These trials of life will descend upon us at the least expected time. Is our house, which represent our life, strong enough to withstand the onslaught of the storms? In Christ Jesus, we are. He assures us with His comforting Words, as He says: ““I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world” (John 16:33 NIV).
So, as children of God in Christ Jesus, let us stand on the rock of His Words and be mindful always as Apostle Peter reminds. It is written: “Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice insofar as you share Christ’s sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed. If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you.” (1 Peter 4:12-14 ESV).
And I say, AMEN!
