When God Says …
“And this rumour of him went forth throughout all Judæa, and throughout all the region round about.” (Luke 7:17 KJV).
This rumor is about the Lord Jesus Christ raising a young man from the dead at the gate of the town of Nain. This miracle of no precedence caused an unprecedented stir, and the grape-vine news of it spread rapidly throughout the surrounding region, this passage reveals.
The event started when the Lord Jesus approaches the town of Nain with a large crowd following Him. Then, as He's about to enter the town gate, He encounters a funeral procession, where the only son of a widow is being carried out for burial. Upon seeing the woman's grief, the Lord Jesus is moved with compassion and tells her not to weep. He then touches the open bier, and commands the young man to arise. He restores him to life! The miracle astounds the crowd, and they glorify God, declaring that a great prophet has arisen among them.
"This rumour of him went forth" to reveal such an amazing phenomenon of the quick spread of the news by word of mouth. The Lord Jesus and the incredible miracle He performed is hard to overlook. He raised the dead young man to life by the command of His words. The profound impact of this miracle is felt throughout Judaea and the surrounding region, as the people witness the authority and power of the Lord Jesus Christ.
This verse reminds us of the transformative power of the Gospel of the grace of God which continues to spread today not only in Judaea and the area that surrounds, but to the ends of the earth, and to the end of the age. With us now being transformed and born again by grace through faith in Christ, we carry on to spread the good news of the Lord's rising from the dead. With the Lord Jesus who died and rose from the grave, being the first-born of creation (Colossians 1:15) and being the first fruit of the resurrection from those fallen asleep (1 Corinthians 15:29-21) which the raising of this young man to life pointed to, we are assured of life everlasting in Christ Jesus.
Now, we are therefore tasked to spread this Good News to the end of the age. This, the Lord Jesus Christ ordained when He says: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”” (Matthew 28:19-20 ESV).
And I say, AMEN!
