The Gospel of Luke 6:46 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?” (Luke 6:46 KJV).

The crowd that the Lord Jesus is speaking to is a great throng that includes His twelve apostles, His group of disciples, and many Jews and Gentiles who came to hear Him and be healed (Luke 6:17–19). He explained that those who believe and follow Him will be persecuted by the world, and that they need to forgive and bless their enemies (Luke 6:20–36). He described two general attributes that His true followers exude. First, they are freed from their sins and not pointing on the sins others (Luke 6:37–42). Second, their good hearts produce good fruits (Luke 6:43–45).

In this passage simply put, the Lord Jesus is saying: "If I am your Lord, then you will do what I tell you. If you don't, then I'm not your Lord." This highlights the Lord's call to do what He says. He’s not calling them and us now to do the commands of the law. He Himself will do what’s needed to be done to fulfill the commands of the law (Matthew 5:17). Our part is to believe and receive Him to be the Lord of our life. We are to totally depend on Him by resting in His grace. There’s no other way. Not by our self efforts by trying hard to do our best as religion teaches. It is by believing in Him.

So, as His disciples who believe in Him, we have His assurance, Him being our Lord. Let us do as the Lord Jesus says: “For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.” (John 3:17-18 ESV).

And I say, AMEN!
