The Gospel of Luke 6:40 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“The disciple is not above his master: but every one that is perfect shall be as his master.” (Luke 6:40 KJV).

The bar of expectation is raised to the highest when the Lord Jesus declared: “Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father” (Matthew 5:48 NIV). And, we can’t be by our efforts. We all have sinned and fallen short (Romans 3:23). Our best of efforts to be righteous are filthy rags before God (Isaiah 64:6). Hence, by setting these standards that the Lord Jesus is teaching in His Sermon in the Plain, He is drawing His disciples and us to totally depend on Him our Master. We being His disciples as we pursue to learn from Him, we must submit to His grace.

It is by His grace and love that we can be justified and perfected. In Him, by faith, we are declared righteous. It is not by our efforts that religion teaches to try our best of doing, as hard as we can. His Words reveal, we can only be righteous by the Lord's righteousness imputed in us (Romans 4:3-8; 2 Corinthians 5:21). As children of God by faith in Christ Jesus, we can’t be above our Master. “But every one that is perfect shall be as his master.” We can be as our Master is, as we receive His gift of salvation by faith. Faith! Faith! Faith! It is not by our merit, but as a gift of love! It is written that, “By this is love perfected with us, so that we may have confidence for the day of judgment, because as he is so also are we in this world” (1 John 4:17 ESV).

And I say, AMEN!
