The Gospel of Luke 7:14-15 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“And he came and touched the bier: and they that bare him stood still. And he said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise. And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he delivered him to his mother.” (Luke 7:14-15 KJV).

In these passages, we watch the Lord Jesus Christ manifests His compassion, and power over life and death. His touch and spoken words bring forth resurrection to restore life of the dead. Touching the bier, which is the platform holding the dead for burial and commanding the young man to rise, is powerful sign of the Lord’s divinity and His being the author of life. This is pointing to His mission bringing hope of a new life to a broken and dying world. Seeing the dead young man responding to the Lord's call to rise up, assures us of the newness in life that can only be found in the spoken words of Christ Jesus our Lord.

The compassionate person of grace, who is the Lord Jesus Christ, was deeply stirred by the heavy sorrow of the young man’s widowed mother. Even in our limited human depth of love, we can feel the anguish of this mother’s heart. No mother would expect to outlive her child. Mothers and every parent look to their children to be there when they grow old, especially this woman being a widow needing someone’s care. She already lost the company of her husband. Hence, this funeral procession that the Lord Jesus Christ with some of His disciples and the crowds stumbled into at the gate of Nain is pregnant with overwhelming sorrow.

It is not tacitly mentioned, but one can surmise the Lord’s decision to come to Nain, may have been steered by this unpleasant event transpiring here at the gate of “Nain” or "pleasant". It needs a pleasant transformation with the restoration of the son to his mother. And this points to our restoration and reconciliation with God through our faith in the risen Lord Jesus Christ. This, Scriptures affirm as it is written: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation.” (2 Corinthians 5:17-19 ESV).

And I say, AMEN!
