The Gospel of Luke 6:1 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“And it came to pass on the second sabbath after the first, that he went through the corn fields; and his disciples plucked the ears of corn, and did eat, rubbing them in their hands.” (Luke 6:1 KJV).

This passage describes a scene where the Lord Jesus and His disciples are walking through the corn fields on the second Sabbath after the Jewish festival of the unleavened bread. His disciples pluck and eat some of the grains, rubbing it in their hands to separate the edible kernels from the chaff and the cob. This act of eating grain on the Sabbath sparks a conflict with the Pharisees. They accuse them of breaking the Sabbath law by working. That’s how this Jewish priests view the observance of Sabbath in their set of rules. Yet, their act of closely watching the activities and every move of the Lord Jesus and His disciples could be viewed work, as well, using their rigid rules. They could be breaking their rules, too. Though the Lord Jesus did not specifically mention this action that they are doing, the Lord Jesus called them hypocrites. They do what they generally accuse others of breaking. They institute rules on their followers strictly that they themselves do not observe. Sounds familiar?

In this present day and age, we hear in the news religious leaders trusted by their subjects as they present themselves pious in public, who are accused of assaulting and molesting children. We watch religious figures, looked up to by their congregation as they teach fidelity, modesty and piety of living as husbands and wives, family men and women. Then you blink a bit, news would surface them having rendezvous with women and men other than their wives and husbands. That’s religion of works by self effort is. People tend to present in public as perfect when in reality, no one is. That’s why we need our Savior who is Christ Jesus our Lord.

We need to rest in the Lord's grace in a personal level by faith. Not by following religious claptrap. Unhindered by religious rigmaroles, we just come in His presence believing, totally depend in His grace and be feed by His holy and written Words. As we come and approach His presence as we are, conceding that we are nothing, He will transform us, not by religion. The Holy Scripture says: “And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.” (2 Corinthians 3:18 ESV).

And I say, AMEN!
