When God Says …
“And they were filled with madness; and communed one with another what they might do to Jesus. And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.” (Luke 6:11-12 KJV).
Yes, filled with wrath on Sabbath day, the Pharisees left the synagogue, where a man with withered hand was healed by the Lord, plotting with each other ‘what they might do to the Lord Jesus Christ'. Somehow, they don’t find this act of planning to do evil as a major break against their Sabbath law. Such an impressive display of hypocrisy!
Hence, as the Lord went to the mountain, it can be viewed as a way to refresh in a place of solitude and retreat, away from the world full of the hustle and bustle of a day filled with religious confrontation and controversies. This reflects the importance of finding a quiet space to connect with God in prayer, as the Lord Jesus models for us to do. Spending the entire night in prayer, is finding rest in the presence of the Father. This is to encourage us believers to make prayer vital; communing with God in every breath of our living; and to seek His guidance with authenticity and persistence.
This also reminds us of the essential role prayer plays in our spiritual journey as strangers of this world. By the example of the Lord Jesus, as a model for our own lives, we too ought to be in the posture of resting in His grace by faith. It is therefore important that we, being children of God in Christ Jesus, have this habit of posture, that we - “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 ESV).
And I say, AMEN!
