The Gospel of Luke 6:5 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“And he said unto them, That the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.” (Luke 6:5 KJV).

In earlier passages we witnessed that the disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ were called out by some religious Pharisees for plucking and eating kernels of corn on the day of Sabbath. In so doing, they were accused of violating the Pharisees' manmade oral law. The Lord Jesus has pointed out that according to their line of reasoning, David didn't merely break the law, he ravaged it (Luke 6:1–4).

In His response the Lord Jesus effectively said that they have abused the Law of the Sabbath, subverting God's will to their made-up regulations. He, being the Lord of the Sabbath, is affirming His rightful authority over it. He is asserting the "spirit" of the law over the "letter" of the law, as the commandment of Sabbath is intended to be. “And he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.” (Mark 2:27 ESV).

And the Lord of the Sabbath lives is us, being born again in spirit by grace through faith the Lord Jesus Christ. It is not a matter of place, nor a matter of day or time. We enter His rest wherever we are and whenever we do – we are at rest in His presence, as it is written: "I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me." (Galatians 2:20 ESV).

And I say, AMEN!
