When God Says …
“And looking round about upon them all, he said unto the man, Stretch forth thy hand. And he did so: and his hand was restored whole as the other.” (Luke 6:10 KJV).
Now, in this passage, we see the Lord Jesus speaks to the man with shriveled hand. He looked at the Pharisees with a mixture of anguish and grief as indicated in the Gospel of Mark 3:5. And He told the man, who is now standing with Him in the midst of the congregation, to stretch his hand! They both ‘worked together’ to straighten a limb for the purpose of healing. And, he was healed! As far as the Pharisees are concerned, the Lord not only just broke the Sabbath laws, but He coaxed another man to "sin", as well.
The religious doctrines of these Pharisees’ Sabbath law, required the Jews to do whatever they can to save a life in danger as an exception to their rules of Sabbath. But, they are prohibited to deliberately take actions that result in the cure of a disease or treatment of a wound. These doctrines are unbiblical, like many doctrines and rules of present day religions claiming as “Christians” but not totally following the Words of truth of our Lord Jesus Christ.
On the other hand, the Pharisees broke their own rules on Sabbath day. After they watched this event, they left and conspire with the Herodians (the political supporters of king Herod of Antipas who ruled the region of Galilee) how they will destroy the Lord Jesus Christ (Mark 3:6). The irony is, for these religious people, plotting to kill doesn't count as breaking their Sabbath law, evil and heinous as it is. That’s how religion works to warp the minds of many held captive by it. With many more inconspicuous teachings that sound good to hear and for people to see but not of the grace of God by faith in Christ Jesus our Lord, sadly many continue to follow blindly. They fail to see the grace of God. Grace in the person of Christ Jesus heals. He is full of compassion. When He heard of John the Baptist’s death, withdrawing to a desolate place in a boat, the crowd followed Him. It is written: “When he went ashore he saw a great crowd, and he had compassion on them and healed their sick.” (Matthew 14:14 ESV).
And I say, AMEN!
