When God Says …
“Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.” (John 18:37 KJV).
Pontius Pilate recognized that the Lord Jesus Christ was not a threat, as the religious leaders of the Jews portrayed Him. "Therefore Pilate said to Him, 'So You are a king!'" The Lord answered with authority. 'Yes, as you said, I am a King.' He who stood before Pilate was the King of kings and the Lord of lords. All power and authority in both heaven and earth are in His hands. And, He affirmed, "I have been born a king, and for this purpose I have come into the world - to testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice."
He came to reveal the Father to a lost and dying world. He came to restore us all into His kingdom. We who would believe on His name are saved. The Lord revealed to Pilate the good news of the gospel of grace, that the Father sent Him into this fallen world to proclaim to the lost souls. The truth of salvation reveals that whosoever hears His voice and believes in Him will be saved. We have this comforting truth: "God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him would not perish, but have everlasting life (John 3:16)."
This was a pivotal moment in Pilate's life. His hour of grace came. The person of grace and truth opened the door for him to respond to His voice and accept Him and be saved. But sadly, those who reject Him is condemned already (John 3:18). Did Pilate hear the truth and believe? Maybe! Did He respond to the Lord’s offer of salvation? Perhaps! No record was revealed of his action after his encounter with the Lord. But, the most important question is have you/we heard His voice and received His truth? For those reflecting on this verse now who are still shackled by religion and other wrong beliefs, this is your pivotal hour of grace, too. You are invited to respond and believe! Paul wrote in his First letter to Timothy: "This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners" (1 Timothy 1:15a). This affirms the Lord’s declaration to Zacchaeus: “And Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, since he also is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”” (Luke 19:9-10 ESV).
And I say, AMEN!
