When God Says …
“But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs: but one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.” (John 19:33-34 KJV).
In these passages, Apostle John highlights two specific prophecies that the Lord’s crucifixion fulfills. The first is Exodus 12:46 where, in giving instructions regarding the passover lamb, the Lord Jehovah tells the people of Israel, “you shall not break any of its bones”, pointing to the Lord Jesus Christ the ultimate Passover Lamb. The second highlight is from Zechariah 12:10 where the Lord Jehovah tells His people that they have “pierced” Him with their idolatry and that, when they look on Him whom they have pierced—and recognize Him for who He is—they will repent in mourning.
The oozing blood and water from the Lord’s side must be fulfilled to further testify the purpose for which our LORD JESUS CHRIST died. The wicked act of this vexed Roman soldier was planned, and was instrumental to publicly declare the completion of redemption. Salvation requires atonement by precious innocent blood, to justify guilty sinners and satisfy the demands of the law.
This epochal moment of redemption is affirmed by Apostle John in his epistle. Giving reassurance to you and I, as well as, to all who receive the true gospel of grace of our Lord Jesus Christ that eternal life can be ours by believing in Him. Not by religion and other deception by the enemy of our soul! It is written: “For there are three that testify: the Spirit and the water and the blood; and these three agree. If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater, for this is the testimony of God that he has borne concerning his Son. Whoever believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself. Whoever does not believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has borne concerning his Son. And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.” (1 John 5:7-12 ESV).
And I say, AMEN!
