The Gospel of John 19:19 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was, JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS.” (John 19:19 KJV).

The inscription “Jesus of Nazareth the King of the Jews” which Pontius Pilate hung on the cross where the Lord Jesus was nailed, was meant to mock, to justify, and to humiliate. This seems just a simple statement of fact that Pilate inscribed in Three versions: Hebrew, Latin and Greek so many can understand. To deter crime and insurrection, Roman law requires the crime committed to be displayed so as the public knows the reason why a person was crucified. This, Pilate wittingly did for multiple objectives. This proclaims the truth, that the Lord Jesus from Nazareth is the King of all creation and the Messiah that the Jews long awaited for.

This is a mocking message to the religious priests and leaders of the Jews who rejected the Lord Jesus Christ and the Son of God who they refused to recognize because of envy, hunger for luxury and thirst for power. It is Pilate's way of humiliating the religious Jews who are blinded by the hypocrisy of their religious doctrines. This is also Pilate's affirming statement to justify his judgement call to have the Lord Jesus crucified for declaring as king of an occupied land, which supplants the sovereign rule of the Roman Empire.

This encapsulation is a reminder for us the redeemed of the Lord, of His mission of salvation for the world He so loved. Yes, our Lord Jesus Christ, “who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.” (Philippians 2:6-8 ESV).

And I say, AMEN!
