The Gospel of John 18:10 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“Then Simon Peter having a sword drew it, and smote the high priest's servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant's name was Malchus.” (John 18:10 KJV).

This passage is a very intriguing statement of fact of one very amazing incident during the Lord's dramatic arrest. An ear of Malchus, the high priest's servant, was chipped by Peter's sword. What’s up with a fisherman having a sword? … And, a disciple for that matter? Maybe this was just the usual impulsive Peter trying to prove and show off by his own effort to impress the Lord. Or, this was Peter half asleep after a grueling night of confusion and tension with their Master betrayed by one of their own. Caught in the middle of the fracas, he was probably awakened from sleep while waiting on the Lord deep in prayer, so half asleep brandishing wildly his sword caught an ear by chance. This opens for the Lord Jesus to perform His last healing miracle before being crucified.

With this action contrary to the Lord’s mission plan to pay for the sins of the world that the Father sent Him for, Peter got his rebuke from the Lord (Matthew 26:52). The Lord Jesus Christ displaying the power of grace, reattached and healed Malchus’ ear (Luke 22:51). Apostle Peter’s human concerns and earthly perspective are understandably logical. With exhaustion and fear, his judgement was clouded. Which reminds us to rest in the Lord (Psalm 37:7). And, as the redeemed of the Lord, Apostle Paul further reminds us: “If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.” (Colossians 3:1-2 ESV).

And I say, AMEN!
