When God Says …
“Then asked he them again, Whom seek ye? And they said, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus answered, I have told you that I am he: if therefore ye seek me, let these go their way: that the saying might be fulfilled, which he spake, Of them which thou gavest me have I lost none.” (John 18:7-9 KJV).
When these heavily armed men came with the traitor Judas Iscariot, the Lord Jesus overtly displayed His divine power by declaring His sacred name I AM. By the mention of His name, affirming that He is Jesus who they’re seeking to apprehend, great power was released. The soldiers were sent falling pinned to the ground. This sends the message that they can only arrest Him when He chooses to allow it. This instance marks the turning point of the Lord’s carnal rendezvous on this earth. Henceforth, He’d voluntarily step out to pay our every debt.
The Lord Jesus bears the responsibility of our sins fully laid upon Him and suffered the penalty/“punishment” for it in our behalf (Isaiah 53:6), so we and all those who put their faith in Him, are let go. He is who they came for, and ought not touch all those He saved by grace, fulfilling His earlier pronouncement: “And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on the last day. For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.”” (John 6:39-40 ESV).
And I say, AMEN!
