When God Says …

“The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” (John 10:10 KJV)

In this passage the Lord Jesus is warning us about the thief, representing the devil and his religious minions. They're those who climb off the kraal to sneak in the sheep-barn, as He earlier revealed in this series of parabolic analogies. They come to steal, you and I - His sheep. The first order of business the devil does is to steal the seed of God's Word because he knows that the Word gives us life. God's Word is Spirit that gives us life (John 6:63). Without the Word, we are vulnerable to whither. He kills our hope, to die and be destroyed for eternity.

The Lord Jesus warned us of it in another parable. He said: “When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in their heart. This is the seed sown along the path.” (Matthew 13:19 NIV). The seed is the Word of God (Luke 8:11). We must hold and secure the seed of His Words in the well-tilled soil of our heart, by believing and continuously meditating on it.

The reason the Lord Jesus Christ has come, He who is the Word (John 1:1 & 14), so we can receive Him in a personal intimate relationship (1 John 4:19) through His grace by faith in Him (Ephesians 2:8). He brings life that is truly abundant, not on things of the world, but on matters beyond. This is what Apostle John prayed for us all - to have a wholly holy (meaning - set apart) life both body and soul. “Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, as it goes well with your soul.” (3 John 1:2 ESV).

And I say, AMEN!
