When God Says …
“Then said they to him again, What did he to thee? how opened he thine eyes? He answered them, I have told you already, and ye did not hear: wherefore would ye hear it again? will ye also be his disciples?” (John 9:26-27 KJV).
These pompous critics of the Lord Jesus Christ continue to exert their arrogance in rejecting the Lord and the miracle He has performed to heal the blind man in their midst. They called the formerly blind man again for another round of hostile debrief and interrogation. They ask the same questions more than once, akin to common tactics used in espionage circles for caught enemy spies. His questioners are looking for inconsistencies, or loopholes in the story that they can use to substantiate their established unbelief. Since they have already asked the same question several times and have been answered, the miracle recipient takes a bold, brave, and incredibly honest and effective approach to touch the nerves of these conniving and hateful religious leaders.
The once blind beggar thoroughly embarrassed the religious elites with an honest answer to their repeated questions. His answer cuts through deeply the core of the Pharisees, Priests and Scribes' unbelief, as “He answered, “I have told you already and you did not listen. Why do you want to hear it again? Do you want to become his disciples too?”” (John 9:27 NIV).
That should have stirred them, as it should stir us too. Our questions about the Lord must lead us to see the truth and be His disciples by believing in Him. But, not for these religious zealots. Their spiritual eyes are blinded by their religions. Hence, for us who are saved and given the right to be called children of God by faith in Christ Jesus (John 1:12-13), we must stand firm with heels dug-in deep. In seeing the truth, the Lord declares to the believing Jews and to all who believes, as it is written: “So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”” (John 8:31-32 ESV).
And I say, AMEN!
