The Gospel of John 11:7-8 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“Then after that saith he to his disciples, Let us go into Judæa again. His disciples say unto him, Master, the Jews of late sought to stone thee; and goest thou thither again?” (John 11:7-8 KJV).

Several days after the Lord Jesus received an urgent dispatch from Mary and Martha stating that His beloved friend Lazarus is gravely ill, He announced unexpectedly to His disciples that they are returning to Bethany in Judaea. That's about twenty miles or over thirty kilometers from their location at Bethabara. It's around two days journey. This was probably a shock to the disciples knowing that the religious Jews were vigorously pursuing to arrest and stone the Lord. But the Lord Jesus Christ has a greater mission to do for the glory of the Father. The time and setting are ripe.

Without the benefit of hindsight, we see that in the midst of threat of great danger, the Lord is decided to follow through the words of comfort He uttered in the presence of the messenger of Mary and Martha. Their message to the Lord said, Lazarus is sick. “When he heard this, Jesus said, “This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God’s glory so that God’s Son may be glorified through it.”” (John 11:4 NIV). This is a promise from the source of life (Genesis 2:7). And, He is a promise keeper (Proverbs 30:5-6; Hebrews 10:23).

As His redeemed, paid by His blood through grace by our faith in Him, we are made sheep in His pasture. We are safe and shielded from dangers. He said: “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.” (John 10:27-28 NIV).

And I say, AMEN!
