“When he heard this, Jesus said, “This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God’s glory so that God’s Son may be glorified through it.”” (John 11:4 NIV)
Sickness is inherent in a world cursed by Adam's disobedience. And the Lord Jesus Christ did not come to reverse the curse of that disobedience on the world that is passing away (Matthew 24:35). He came to save the world's humanity from the eternal penalty of sin (John 3:16-18). Everyone on this planet is still susceptible to the physical curse of illness. Even us and all those whom the Lord loves, like these siblings Mary, Martha and Lazarus who are greatly favored by the Lord. The earth suit we are wearing, while we are still here, is wearing away and ultimately recycles into the dust where it came from (Genesis 3:19). It's just a matter of time. Scriptures say: “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens:” (Ecclesiastes 3:1 NIV).
But for God's glory, when our trust is in the Lord Jesus Christ who loves us, like He loved Lazarus and his sisters, when we go through the challenges of physical health, it won't always end in death of the flesh. Yes, God use it for His glory. And being His children through grace by faith and being the sheep in His flock, we have His comforting promise and assurance. We can declare: “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” (Psalm 23:4 ESV).
And I say, AMEN!
