The Gospel of Luke 4:33-34 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“And in the synagogue there was a man, which had a spirit of an unclean devil, and cried out with a loud voice, saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art; the Holy One of God.” (Luke 4:33-34 KJV).

The setting was the religious venue of the Jew’s Sabbath worship gathering. In the midst of it was a devil-possessed man, which indicates that the devil could be present in a religious gathering, even in this instance in the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ. He even recognized who the Lord is, which perhaps many of those in attendance have even no idea at all who the Lord Jesus was. This doesn’t exempt today’s religious systems of the world, which some even use the name of the Lord. Religion is not of God. The Lord Jesus regularly preached at religious synagogues during His earthly ministry to call on the religious Jews running those synagogues to see the truth and truly come to God. They resist Him like this demon possessed man shouting at the Lord at the top of his lungs to ““Go away! What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!”” (Luke 4:34 NIV). This effectually reflects the religious resistance against the Lord Jesus Christ and His message of grace and truth.

In one of His sermons, the Lord Jesus says this to the religious leaders of the Jews: ““What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you shut the door of the Kingdom of Heaven in people’s faces. You won’t go in yourselves, and you don’t let others enter either. “What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you cross land and sea to make one convert, and then you turn that person into twice the child of hell you yourselves are!” (Matthew 23:13, 15 NLT).

We, therefore, are not called by God who sent the Lord Jesus Christ to come to a religion, to a venue or to a synagogue to be a member of a cult or religious enterprise. We are called to become a member of the body of Christ Jesus - the Church, by grace through faith in Him. It is written: “Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it.” (1 Corinthians 12:27 ESV). “And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.” (Colossians 1:18-20 ESV).

And I say, AMEN!
