The Gospel of Luke 4:38-39 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“And he arose out of the synagogue, and entered into Simon's house. And Simon's wife's mother was taken with a great fever; and they besought him for her. And he stood over her, and rebuked the fever; and it left her: and immediately she arose and ministered unto them.” (Luke 4:38-39 KJV).

These passages reveal that after teaching at the synagogue that Sabbath day, the Lord Jesus arose and went to visit Simon’s house which we can surmise Luke is referring to Simon the brother of Andrew. This is the Simon who will be called Peter. With Luke referring to him as Simon, as it is not explicitly stated, this implies that this event happened before Simon was called by the Lord to follow Him. It also reveals that Simon was married and his wife's mother is gravely ill and bedridden.

Luke says that as the Lord Jesus enters the house of Simon, they plead for Him for his mother-in-law who is suffering from a high fever. As the Lord stood over her, He rebuked the fever, and she was instantly healed. Then after being restored to health, she begins to care and serve unto all her guests, like a mother-in-law always does, being in an eastern culture environment. This assures us that the Lord is in the mission to heal. And, He is able by the power of His Words. Lo and behold, the good news is we have His Words. As we come to Him, or as we welcome Him when He enters our life, our home, like this mother-in-law of Simon, He is willing to heal, and restore to keep our home bustling and serving.

Yes, our Lord Jesus Christ is willing. In one of our Lord's encounter with a leper, Apostle Matthew records, as it is written: “When he came down from the mountain, great crowds followed him. And behold, a leper came to him and knelt before him, saying, “Lord, if you will, you can make me clean.” And Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, “I will; be clean.” And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.” (Matthew 8:1-3 ESV).

And I say, AMEN!
