When God Says …

“And it came to pass on a certain day, as he was teaching, that there were Pharisees and doctors of the law sitting by, which were come out of every town of Galilee, and Judæa, and Jerusalem: and the power of the Lord was present to heal them.” (Luke 5:17 KJV).

Here, we watch the power of social media at work. Resulting from the quick spread of the healing miracles that happened through the social grape-vine news, this passage reveals the convergence of the religious authorities from around the region. We can picture them sitting on seats of importance that they usually take at functions, in the house where the Lord Jesus is teaching. The presence of the Pharisees and doctors of the law, highlight the religious and social tensions of the time, now incited by the sudden news of people being miraculously healed. These individuals were the religious leaders of the Jewish community and held considerable influence over their followers. They’re known for their strict adherence to and enforcement of their religious customs, laws and traditions. They often condemn those who do not meet the standards they set for people to follow.

This passage also reveals that “the power of the Lord was present to heal them.” And it is present, as well, right now to heal us. That is, if we come ready to be healed and approach in the posture of receiving our healing. This crowd of religious people have that great opportunity and we too now, having the privilege to reflect on these words. The power of the Lord Jesus Christ was present then and present right now as we meditate on it. Let us therefore receive our healing like that centurion who came to the Lord Jesus in Capernaum, appealing: ““Lord, my servant is lying paralyzed at home, suffering terribly.” And he said to him, “I will come and heal him.” But the centurion replied, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof, but only say the word, and my servant will be healed.” (Matthew 8:6-8 ESV).

And I say, AMEN!
