When God Says …
“For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken: and so was also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men.” (Luke 5:9-10 KJV).
Simon Peter’s stunned reaction of the massive catch they just witnessed, unprecedented in their years of fishing, was of awe and recognition of authority and power. They all are astounded, along with their fishing partners James and John, the sons of Zebedee. This miraculous catch not only demonstrates the divinity and supernatural power of the Lord Jesus Christ, but also reveals the overflow of blessings by His presence in our life. The boat represents yours and my life, our lives. The moment we are saved and born again by allowing the Lord Jesus into our lives to guide us through the unction of the Holy Spirit and direction of His holy and written words, we will experience favors and great success. His Words shall be the guide posts of our every move (Joshua 1:8).
Common to our human tendency when we encounter extraordinary phenomenon like this, fear creeps in driven by confusion brought about by guilt of sin. We’re all sinners as a person without the Lord Jesus Christ being received and welcomed in our life as our Savior. In this state of these young men’s lives brought up under religion based on performance, it is understandable for them to be fearful in the presence of the Lord. Their religion taught them that their god is an angry god watching their every move to punish them when they mess up. But, that’s not who the Lord Jesus Christ is whom the Father - the true God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob sent to the world and now in the midst of these young fishermen. He came driven by love to love us (John 3:16).
The Lord Jesus Christ, who is love (1 John 4:8) came into the world that He so loved. He came full of grace and truth - He is the person of grace (John 1:14). His words of assurance “Fear Not” for His presence in the lives of these young fishermen and ours will transform us to what He purposed us to be - as fishers of lost souls. We are to behold His glory being in His presence, not fearful. It is written, “And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.” (2 Corinthians 3:18 ESV).
And I say, AMEN!
